Shoidan was a large lion - he tended to take hits pretty well, but today his right arms was really bothering him. During his duel with the rogue Thabisa, he bested her, overtaking her with relative ease, but he didn't get off scot-free. She had managed to clamp down on his arm and sink her teeth in deep enough that the muscle tissue below was sore, and now the day after that duel he was in quite a bit of pain.

He was limping his way to the dens when he realized he needed to lie down. The Firekin wasn't the place where you showed pain from your wounds, so he decided to make his way over to the nearest rock and stretch his body out over it, lounging. He winced when he moved his arm and decided to spend his lime tending to his wound, licking it to no avail. Luckily, he wasn't on duty today, so he had no other responsibilities to worry about. What he was worried about was someone seeing him this way.

The lion wasn't the most "masculine" and "manly" of the lions in the Firekin, but he still held his pride. Particularly, he didn't want any pretty lionesses to cross his path - not yet, not today. On any other day, absolutely - he was woefully lonely and with his sister, Brasa, recently raising her first litter to adulthood, it was only making his heart pang harder for a female in his life. Unfortunately, he just hadn't been lucky enough to meet the right one. But, soon! Just... not right now. Not today. Not like this.

Dam'adhra was returning from a shift at the boarder. She was a guard and while she appreciated the need for such a role, she often found it rather... dull. Not many souls ventured close to the Firekin and alls the worse that those who did had not come her way. She was itching to be able to duel someone, especially after loosing to the solider named Sekhet. Her pride was only a little bruised but all the same, she wanted to prove herself to... well, herself more than anyone.

The black lioness yawned and was looking forward to a long, luxurious cat nap in a spot of sun. Summer was fast approaching and the heat of the day would soon be too hot for her black fur so she intended to get the best of it should could, while she could. She knew just the place. There was a cluster of rocks that were near enough the dens which heated nicely in the sun light. With a perk in her step, she made her way in that direction.

She was only mildly disappointed to see someone already was occupying one of the rocks. Some firekin were touchy when it came to sharing and she wasn't interested in having to fight over it. She almost turned around to find somewhere else to lay her head when she noticed the lion was grooming his arm in a manner that was... off. Not so much grooming but compulsively cleaning it, as if he were wounded. A flutter of concern passed over her chest and she turned back towards the rock. "Excuse me? You okay up there?"

Shoidan was content enough perched upon his rock, licking his wounds. That was, until he heard a hesitant voice. His head rose and he made eye contact with a plain, black lioness as she turned toward him, inquiring as to his state of affairs. Before he answered, he gazed at her, drinking in the sight of her. She was plain, sure - but something about her was so striking it made him take an involuntary gulp of air, just to be sure he was still breathing. Her nose and eyes were highlighted in a brilliant red that he, as a Firekin, was so familiar with. But on her it looked different - striking, really. He was captivated by it.

But, he couldn't remain captivated for long. He needed to respond, of course. Was he okay? Not particularly. "Er..." he started awkwardly, not really knowing what to say. "I'm fine, it's just... I got into a bit of a tussle at the border yesterday and had a rogue sink her teeth into my arm. It's not... great," he said with a small laugh. "But I'm sure I'll recover quite okay," Shoidan didn't want to worry the pretty thing, after all.

When the lion had stared at her at first, she almost thought he hadn't heard her. She stared back, looking him over as she did. He was big, even for someone who had Firekin blood--which he clearly did. His mane was most striking. She loved the dark red hue of it and twinged a little with jealously. She had red, yes, on her nose and eyes but it wasn't much. She felt she was a little shadow to a lot of her pride-mates and secretly wished she'd been born with a bit more flare to her.

When the lion still had not answered, Dam took a breath to repeat herself. Just as she did, though, he spoke. He was light hearted and a little embarrassed, which made him quite charming actually. Except yet another lion had gotten to duel and she hadn't, the thought of which dampening what she would find as otherwise an endearing circumstance for the big guy. "Well lucky you," she said with a coy smile as she placed her front paws on the rock to peer at the wound. "I wish I'd gotten the chance. I am a guard after all." She knew this lion wasn't a guard as she'd done well to know all the others in her rank and she would have remembered his size if nothing else.

"Hm, that doesn't look good. Maybe one of the medics needs to take a look at it, ya think?"

At her response, Shoidan laughed. "Yes, lucky me," he said as a way of response. Lucky him - right time, right place. Even though it wasn't his duty to greet rogues, he just happened to be wandering by the borderlands when Thabisa showed up, and he was never one to turn down a fight. "I'm a solider, so I'm not any stranger to battle," he explained with a slight smile.

As she peered at his wound, he fought the urge to fidget and move away from her gaze. She inquired about him seeing a medic, but he ignored her advice. He knew he should probably see someone, but that felt shameful. Everyone he was surrounded by was so tough and hard-skinned - it seemed almost silly to see a medic for such a minor wound. Shoidan shrugged and responded, "If you want to duel, I'm always here for one. Although you may beat me if we start one now... but I'm quite okay with that." He flashed her another smile, his eyes darting down to her paws, resting on the edge of the rock he lay upon. "I'm Shoidan, by the way. Who might you be?"

She nodded when he told her he was a solider. No surprise there. Anything else would be a waste, she thought as she saw the thick coils of muscles that wrapped his arms.

When he mentioned she beating him in a duel, a surprising electric shock shot through her lower stomach. What was that? She didn't really give herself the chance to think it over but she smiled back, her fang flashing as she did. "Nah, I'd rather you been at your best so I can claim a real victory. It's no fun beating a guy whose missing a chunk of his arm... but I will hold you to it, Shoidan. I'm Dam'adhra."

She pushed herself off the rock, feeling a sort of tension starting to build in their proximity. She sat on her haunches instead, and looked up at with with flirtatious eyes. Yes, she very well could flirt with him if she wanted. There wasn't any rule against that, wounded or not. She was a solider and she a guard. Completely acceptable... so why did it sounded like she was trying to convince herself she wasn't doing anything wrong? She wasn't really even doing anything at the moment.

Ignoring her internal squabbles, she asked with humor in her voice, "So... did you win?"

"Dam'adhra. Pretty. Suiting." Shoidan blurted out, short and sweet, followed by another smile. That smile was immediately followed by a grimace as he shifted his weight away from his injured arm. Maybe he did need to be a medic - but he wasn't going to admit that any time soon.

He mulled over the idea of fighting her in battle - he didn't shy away from dueling the pretty ones for fear of hurting them, as he knew that to be sexist and foreign to the pride, really. But he would hate to beat her, she seemed so nice. As he had the thought, she pushed away from the edge of the rock and sat back on her haunches, putting some distance between the two of them. His brows furrowed quickly and just as soon unfurrowed as he glanced at her, curious as to whether the mood was purposeful.

"Win? Oh, I destroyed her... poor thing is probably limping around the roguelands now," he said with a practiced casual shrug and yet another grimace. "Seems I'm a little bit worse off than I thought," he added with a laugh, hoping to come of calm and collected. For some reason, he found himself very self-conscious around this new lioness. A crush wasn't the worst thing to have on her, he thought.

"So," Shoidan started, shuffling his long limbs to push himself up and leap gingerly down from the rock. "You mentioned a medic?" He couldn't ignore the pain anymore and it was stupid to try. He hated to seem weak in front of this beautiful guard, but it was the wise lion who admitted he needed help. Or so he liked to think.

Oh, brother. She had to purposefully keep herself from rolling her purple eyes skyward. While she objectively knew she should graciously accept the compliment, there was a knee jerk reaction to dismiss it. Clearly he was aiming to flatter her—but, I mean, look at her. She was as plain as they could come and her oddly colored eyes? It was her greatest flaw, in her own view. Not wanting hurt his feelings, though, she simply ignored it, as if he'd said nothing.

"Yeah, I feel like everyone else has all the luck in finding challenges." She pouted her bottom lip a bit, faux-sulking. "I got to stretch my legs the other day with a solider and got my butt beat. I need the practice, so once you're mended, be sure to come and find me."

She stood when he did, her tail idling swaying back and forth. "Yeaaaah..." she dramatically looked his arm up and down. "I think that would be wise." She smirked, nodding her direction towards the encampment. "Here, I'll escort you. Make sure you make it and don't injure yourself further."

Shoidan nodded, wincing only a bit at the pain in his arms. Dueling was fun, and as a guard, he knew that was a large part of Dam'adhra's job. But unfortunately, like she mentioned, you had to have the luck of running across rogues while on your duty. Or else... all your duty consisted of was walking back and forth around the pride's perimeter, keeping your eyes peeled for what may very well be absolutely nothing. It could get rather boring, he'd heard. He preferred his role, but had the utmost respect for the work the guards of the pride put into keeping their pridal lands (and those within them) safe from harm.

"Of course, if you ever need a challenger, I'm always up for a battle," he spoke with another wince as he shifted his weight off his injured arm. "Oh, I don't think I'm dumb enough to injure myself further," he said with a laugh, "But I appreciate your faith in me." Shoidan wanted to wink at her, but it felt cheesy and weird - which, all romantic and flirtatious gestures seemed to him - so he put that one in his back pocket for later. "Lead the way, lady Dama" he said, flicking his nose in the air to indicate where he knew the medics to be. "I'll follow you wherever it is you want to take me."

Dam'adhra had never had a romantic partner, or anyone even close to such a thing. Therefore, Shoidan's comments made her a feel a mix of excitement and... well, awkwardness. She wasn't sure which was going to win out until an odd giggle/snort bubbled up and escaped her maw at lady Dama. Once she recovered, and the hot blush heating her skin faded a bit, she added. "I think you may have hit your head in that challenge."

Dam began towards the medic, being sure to keep her pace the same as the wounded solider's. "Let's go big guy."
