History
Tanzanite has not had a civilian identity in nearly a decade.
After being recruited by Charonite, Tanzanite quickly became a zealot. While she found her home within the Negaverse, her loyalty to Queen Beryl evolved into near-worship. When the first knight, Kunzite, attempted to kill Beryl (and thus Nealite), Tanzanite (stupidly) threw herself in front of the blade. She saved her best friend and beloved queen, but her right arm was severed clean at the shoulder. In an “attempt to save her life”, she was placed in stasis. A carefully chosen corrupt and broken starseed was merged with her, and she became the first youma hybrid.
Tanzanite was not given a choice in the matter.
In reality, this was the beginning of an ongoing experiment by Metallia. Both the subject and the youma had been carefully matched in an attempt to expedite the process of creating a Greater youma. It was briefly successful after General Tanzanite and several of her soldiers were captured, interrogated, and outright tortured at the hands of Ares and her court. Few survived.
While the Negaverse rallied outside to rescue them, the fatally wounded General-King Marthozite convinced Tanzanite to take his starseed and utilize its power. That power, combined with both the General and her youma half, proved both miraculous and disastrous. The result was, for a short while, the transformation of Tanzanite into a Greater youma known as the black phoenix.
From the remains of that creature, when finally defeated by a large assembly of Order members, General-Queen Tanzanite was born.
In time, Beryl's leadership became more and more unstable, seemingly unconcerned for those who served her. General-Queens Laurelite and Tanzanite successfully betrayed the Queen in an attempt to bring new stability to the faction. Tanzanite continued in a leadership role, leading them to the Rift and serving as Metallia's voice.
After a brief time in that role, General-Queen Tanzanite simply... vanished.
Called to Metallia's chamber, deemed ready for her purpose, an attempt was made to force the black phoenix to reemerge in a permanent, stable form. It failed, and Tanzanite's body was disintegrated in the process. Her starseed was given to General-Queen Howlite, who gave it over to the Rift. After the Order invasion, no further energy could be funneled toward Metallia's pet project. Without her attention, the youma within began to slowly reassemble Tanzanite's body on its own. Over the course of several years, it gathered scraps of energy until it could attract the attention of Ascendant General Alkaid. After the creature siphoned power from her to weaken the chrysalis, Alkaid's attack was able to break it open.
After six years of being rebuilt, a process still in progress, a much weakened Tanzanite is still searching for answers, as well as her place in the Negaverse as it exists today. She has begun to shed any human attachments, severing all ties with those outside of the Negaverse. Despite being maimed, mutated, burned, decayed, tortured, and turning into a giant angry fire bird, Tanzanite remains unyielding in her loyalty to both Metallia and Queen Laurelite.
