Reincarnation

OOC Limitations and Requirements:
• No more than one reincarnation, per player, per year.
• Player must have owned the character they wish to reincarnate.
• The character the player wishes to have reincarnated needs a history of 10 breeding-length RPs OR involvement in a shop or pride meta that led to their death.*
• Characters with difficult/incendiary histories may be denied reincarnation, or may have restrictions put upon them.

Quote:
*Exceptions:
• Because SoA is such an old shop, and there are a fair number of characters who passed before this change to the lore, each player may bring back one previously deceased character (must have died prior to 2/24/2019) for 'free,' with no requirements aside from ownership.  Additionally, each player may reincarnate one previously deceased character with halved requirements (5 breeding-length RPs).
• These exceptions still count towards the one-per-year rule.
• Voluntarily offing a character in a personal plot or during a metaplot where it is optional but still your choice does not qualify as an exception. This exception only applies to characters who were given out as plot items and their deaths dictated.

Appearance:
• There are no species or gender limitations, anyone can come back as anything.
• Characters should not look recognizable across reincarnations, and may retain only ONE physical trait: eye color, a small markings, etc.
• This physical trait may not be one that is exclusive to the family they were originally born into (i.e. Masuka's 'curse' mark) unless they are being born back into that family.
• A character cannot be reincarnated as a cosplay, even if they were previously a cosplay.

Obtainment:
• Reincarnations must begin at cub/pup/baby stage.
• Reincarnations must be obtained as customs or breeding customs.
• If a reincarnation is obtained via breeding custom, the owners of both parents MUST approve it.
• If a reincarnation obtained via breeding custom is a character who previously wronged or killed an ancestor of that family, the player of the character who was wronged or killed will also need to grant permission.
• At this point in time, new characters cannot be written as reincarnations: this mechanic is only open to characters who have been played and have passed away.

IC Limitations:
• A reincarnated character may NOT have the same name, or a variation of it.
• Except in shop meta circumstances, reincarnated characters will not remember their previous lives, even in dreams or even if they are seers.
• Only a handful of characters exist in the shop that would recognize a character as reincarnated (Mkodi, Death, Souls, Rebirth, Nchekwube of the N'ezi-ozu); seers and most gods will not be able to tell.
• Please do not make requests to the players of the above-listed characters to have them reveal your character's history, as they will not do so; the most they can reveal is that the character is a rebirth, with no details whatsoever.
• A character may be drawn to or repulsed by certain things, people, or places, but they will be unaware as to why (they may fall in love with the reincarnation person they had loved in a previous life, be afraid of water if they drowned, etc.); they should not, however, feel drawn to their family nor have a reaction to hearing their previous name (this block is in place to prevent them from learning who they were); the most feeling they should ever get about something or someone is very vague deja vu/heebie jeebies.
• Reincarnations have been made a possibility so that characters have a chance at a new start for a new life, which is why we are being so strict about them not being able to discover who they were. This mechanic has not been introduced just so they can be exactly the same person and do all the same things, to fuel a ton of angst or open old wounds, to restart or take over their old pride, etc.

The Process:
•You must fill out the form below and wait for approval. Keep in mind that some characters, as stated above, may be denied at the shop's discretion, or you may be required to make changes.
•You may only have one form active at a time. If you have multiple characters you're interested in reincarnating, you'll have to prioritize.
•'One per year' applies to calendar year, so you could have a character reincarnated in December of 2019, then another in January of 2020...but then nothing again until 2021, and so on.
•The form must be filled out in its entirety: no TBDs or lack of visual reference. Plan ahead, have everything ironed out before you post.

After months of conflict in the skies over the earth, and the resulting natural and even supernatural disasters created by the excess of magic, things have finally fallen quiet.  The freak storms have dissipated, the cycles of day and night are once again in their natural rhythm, and in time, the seasons will follow suit.  Evidence of the strange times remain, such as objects that fell to earth, as well as the physical scars from the disasters that wracked the world, and the same strange activity continues at The Maw and The Lake of Sighs.  And while the most impressive supernatural phenomena have ceased, here and there a ghostly presence or unintelligible whisper might linger.

As for the Haven, the gods may now return, but it will not be as they remember it.  It is no longer the beautiful, shining place it once was, and much lies in blackened ruin.  It may well remain so for some time, as more pressing tasks require the attention of the War's victor.

Death has won.  Mkodi has fled or been banished, but regardless of the details is once again out of reach of any within the realms.  The black god who defeated her is accessible to very few, as he begins the arduous task of seeing through his vision of a better resting place for mortal souls, where they can be sorted and looked after accordingly - and perhaps, now and then, given another chance.  For this is how it was meant to be, when he first reached an agreement with Mkodi.  Before he was betrayed, and imprisoned, so that she would have no equal, and would have to share "her" world with no other.  Unfortunately, to fix things, he had to break them first, and there are countless drifting souls to be collected and brought to safety.  It will be a long, long process.

The world itself has been badly damaged in many places.  Always quick to fall to war, humans have all but destroyed themselves; scarce few remain, and their cities and settlements lie in ruin.

This means...
•Some of the effects and magic may dissipate more gradually, so anyone with plots related to the freakiness of the shop meta could have a few IC weeks before things go back to normal, so you have time to wrap things as necessary.
•Yep, humans are gone.  This means that yes, ruined towns and cities may now be used as settings.  Keep in mind, however, that there are none in close proximity to traditional SoA lands, so to find anything bigger than a village would probably take at least a week or two of travel for the average SoA; for anything amounting to a city, you'd be more in the realm of a few weeks to a month. (Also remember that this is circa early 1970s Africa.) Any technology they might find is bricked and useless, and they still shouldn't be grabbing and wearing more modern items, so don't request them as edits.
•It is possible that we will have future occasions of spillovers of magic as Death works on his 'renovations,' and if so, these will be noted.
•And now we get to much of the driving force behind this meta, which was to open up within the lore the possibility of reincarnation.  There are, however, some fairly strict requirements, and you can read up on it all here.
•ICly, reincarnation was previously extremely rare, and required some collaboration and sneaking around on the part of Death and one of his allies.  All such previous instances will, for now, remain shop-controlled.
