Facial Features with Proko:
I want to skip ahead just a little bit so that we can feel that we're making real progress. We already know the structure of the head based on the skull and the planes of the face, so let's introduce the facial features. We'll dive in deeper with the Bargue's and Loomis drawing courses a little later.
Hair:
Features with Charles Bargue:
Probably my favourite way of learning to draw facial features is part of Charles Bargue's drawing course. Here's the PDF.
Assignments:
Draw or paint every feature in different angles. Follow the tutorials provided and/or work from reference photos or from life, and submit your work here.

Loomis Head & Hands:
The methods popularised by Andrew Loomis is the easiest for beginners to grasp drawing the human head and figure. It also doesn't joke around and helps you level up your skill and understanding of the human form quite quickly.
Work through the Loomis book and copy the drawings in it. You will learn the head for different ages and genders, as well as facial features, necks and hands. Submit your favourite drawings here.

Master Studies:
Master copies are a fantastic way to learn, but it should be understood that these will always be copies and NOT originals.
Our style develops not only from our personality, but from who we learn and copy.
Finding our own unique portrait style:
Assignments:
Part ONE - Choose 4 artists (deceased, like the classical masters) whose portraits you really admire and whose styles inspire you to create your own portraits. Select a favourite work of each and copy it first in monochrome and then in colour.
Part TWO - Choose 4 artists (alive) whose portraits you really admire and whose styles inspire you to create your own portraits. Select a favourite work of each and copy it first in monochrome and then in colour.
Manga-style portraits, for those who like it more:
Final Assignments:
Complete the following as your final assignment for the portrait drawing curriculum.
- 5 male portraits (different angles of the face, different ages, and different races) - 5 female portraits (different angles of the face, different ages, and different races) - 5 fantasy races. These can be based on Gaia avatars, your own imagination, or even fan art. Be sure not to copy someone else's work, though. These assignments are not meant to be master copies.

How to submit your assignments:
Keeping our goals and dreams and our big WHY in mind every step of the way will motivate us through the stumbling blocks and boring repetition.
