Well the franchise itself started back in '82 with super dimensional fortress macross with several versions much like gundam but instead of universes, all the series (minus one or two manga) take place in the same continuum, and even make reference to past characters.

Just saw a video from youtube about Robotech. Gotta say it must be a classic.
The older ones are indeed. Funny thing, there's technically 2 versions. What's called Super Dimensional Fortress Macross which was the series' true name and first show, and then Robotech which was the edited version made for an actual US release... By editted they added in two unrelated series into it to get 65 episodes in order to play one on each weekday for 13 weeks so only watch to 36 of robotech.

Last I saw of the series was the shadow chronicles! Series has been silent ever since besides Love Live Alive. >_> They've had a few movies to macross frontier, a fun game I hear, and they have macross delta that ran just in 2016.

I'm so glad you posted about this. I always think this is a lost Anime....
I look into a lot of mecha anime lol Doesn't mean I always watch it but I make sure to at least recognize some of it, like VOTOMs.
