Since this guild is filled with people who have a stake in fishing, I'd like to ask your opinions. What changes to fishing would you like, what would you dislike, and what would you feel neutral about?
I'd like saving fishes as soon as they are caught.
I'd like to no longer feel it is a waste if I must leave partway through a bucket for rl stuff.
I'd like it if the game weren't opaque on what bait does. I would rework the whole system. A newbie could start a game without bait, and the UI tells them few fish will bite without bait, while providing a button to apply baits to increase the chances of fish biting. I'd have it show players as the bait degrades, and allow players to apply more weak baits or stronger baits to get it back up. Probably also include some helpful links to buy bait from Logan or the mp. The trash fishers could keep relying on weak bait, to increase their bites, but not worry about increasing the quality of fish.
I'd like to exchange multiple fish at once, without exchanging the maximum.
I'd like new fish! Maybe like a way to get those cute angel fish? Even if they are super rares, like you'd have to trade in 1000 ironjaws for. And a badass rare for Durem, and a rare that references Japan for Bass'ken! Oooo so much symmetry!
I'd like new exchange items too but getting artists involved might be costly. This also goes for the last wish. But... symmetry... sigh.
The only change I'd really hate is making things very random. Like, if the fish behavior was random instead of by species, it would kill the game for high end fishers. If there was an equal chance of a tuna biting near the fisher as far, it would make things harder for mid level fishers like me.
I'd be cool about changing the distribution of the odds, as long as it isn't completely random. Like, if there were more factors than distance, bait, and bait degradation.
I'd be cool with changing the behavior of the fish. I mean, it may be hard to wrest that behavior from the old flash code! But, if the new version has patterns humans can figure out, I think relearning is an acceptable price of progress.
I'd be cool with any graphical changes that make things easier to understand, or that make the game more modern looking without making it harder to understand.
I'd be cool with dropping things that only have cosmetic changes now, like where one sits in the lake, or with changing them to have an effect, or replacing them with something else.
We have plenty of time to think about it. Codemonkey is currently working on Towns 3. But, the sooner we start thinking about it and put all our ideas down, the more chances we have to improve our ideas.
