It was hot, but it that's anything unusual for the dry stretch of sun drenched desert that lay just outside the busy hub of the massive trade center that was Giza. A little further inland and it could be down right oppressive. Here near the banks of a wide river the inhabitants and travelers we're afforded the subtle relief of a cool breeze, or even a dip in the water itself. The latter was a personal favorite of Amon, but he didn't have the time for it today. He'd headed down to the river to fill a couple of jugs to bring back for his sisters. He was sat at the edge of the water beside a patch of Reed. No time for a swim, but at the very least he could take a small moment to himself to feel the breeze on his skin before heading back under the burden of filled water jugs. A moment to enjoy the peace before walking back into the hustle and bustle of the open market. You could find anything beneath the multicolored canopies lining the Giza streets, except quiet.

The air was hot and the drifts came easy. It was a great day to fly.
Some things did, of their own accord. Dragonflies zipped between the reeds in the cool relief of the water's edge, while above them sparrows and threshers and brightly colored rosefinches sailed between the turning winds. Above them all circled a small hawk, far enough away to seem almost spectral in the bright desert afternoon.
Kestrel did not have the wings to join any of these creatures, but it was of little consequence. She'd shared secrets with the winds that flirted with the outer banners of a marketplace, and in return they filled the sails of her great kite, giving her the strength and speed to travel as birds do, above the din. Of the many perks of being a Knight of Uranus, this by far had to be the sweetest, floating with her kite far from the ache in her bones that she left on the ground.
But like all things on the Uranian sands, peace was a fickle, shifting thing. She floated over where the winds cooled over water and started to dive, and in the maneuver lost her grip of the wooden mast and tumbled, the knight tumbling in one direction and the kite sailing on with no pilot. For Zoji La, it was just a matter of calling to the winds, buffeting them up to cradle her until her feet touched the shore, but that meant she took little care of where her kite was headed, until she saw the tall silhouette of a man instead of reeds.
She sprinted for him, but her words were faster still. "Watch out!"

Dark curls caught in the cool wind sliding across the water and Giza drew in a deep breath before letting it out slowly, shoulders shagging as he tipped his head up against the brilliant blaze of the sun. It was a beautiful day, though he supposed most were--barring the occasional sand storm, of course. In the distance he could hear a bird calling out, insects humming as they skated across the top of the river. A little slice of paradise. Until the peace was shattered by a sudden shout. Amon startled at the sound, head snapping round to stare wide eyed at the girl sprinting towards him. And then he saw nothing at all. The kit had struck him in the side of the head, and it was heavy enough, and the momentium strong enough to send him toppling over in a boneless heap. He hadn't seen it coming, and had done nothing to prevent the painful impact.

Kestrel could only watch as the kite struck true, bowling the young man over and lodging itself in the reeds by the river. Her instructions had been so simple--watch out? And what hadn't he done? Watch out. And now they were both in quite the pickle, because he was laying listless on the ground with some kind of head trauma, and Kestrel fretted above him, swooping down to lift his torso into her arms.
"Hawk's teeth, it's not like I told you to stay still," the sandy knight muttered, her brow furrowed as she hefted him up. She shot a glance towards the edges of the marketplace, trying to recall where exactly in the desert she'd been flying. It was all so easy to picture as the crow flies, but the landmarks all looked so different with her feet on the ground.
"Can you stand, fledgling?" Kestrel doffed the cloak of Zoji La, using one hand to stroke the hair out of his face and get a better look at the rising bump on his head. "We should probably get you to see someone about that--I apologize, I would have never taken that dive if I'd thought there were people so far out from the markets."
Kestrel lifted her brows and offered her best apologetic smile, close-lipped and half tilted to one side. "Do you live nearby? I can at least get you to your family."

There was a whole look of nothing for a long handful of seconds in which Amon wasn't aware of being drawn up into careful arms or the softly chiding voice murmuring down at him, but he was aware of it as things started returning to him. The sound of the river, the warmth of the sun on dark skin, the gentle caress of the breeze through his hair. No, wait...that was a hand. "Fledgling?" It was soft, a little rough around his edges as the ache of the impact became apparent to him. He winced as he opened his eyes, then blinked up at the pretty face hovering over him. Her eyes were like oasis pools in the sun... She'd continued talking but he hadn't actually heard much of what she was saying, distracted by curve of her smile. "What?" There'd been a question in there somewhere. What was it...? "Pyramids of GIza," he finally answered, gaze still lingering on her face, a lips tugging up at either side in the shadow of a smile.
