The blades of air would slice Swanna, the bird letting out pained cries as it took the blows. Fortunately for them Air Slash was a Special Attack and not a physical one so there was no extra oomph behind them from the Swords Dance. With her bird regaining its bearings Skyla considered the situation. Swanna would use Icy Wind once more but that didn't mean it had to target the Dewott. She had an idea.
"Swanna! Use your Icy Wind and aim it at the ground!" She commanded her Pokemon.
With a shrill cry the Pokemon would look down and begin to flap its wings with vigor, generating a chilling gust of wind which would sweep across the field and just barely harming Samurai. However in that same moment the force of the gale would send Swanna soaring upwards, high above the field. Now up in the sky the bird was better positioned for the next command now that the Encore would be ending.

I wanted to be annoyed at this tactic, but honestly, I was just starting to really enjoy this battle. It was a real nail-biter, each side seeking to sway the conditions of the battle in their favor. Besides, though the move I had in mind wasn't going to be very effective, it certainly had the potential to invalidate that last attempt at strategy on Skyla's part. "Close the distance! Use Aqua Jet!" Samurai enshrouded himself in Water-type energy and flew over the battlefield, rushing like a torpedo toward the water bird that was his opponent. He readied his scallops as he drew near to Swanna, ready for the next attack after the upcoming collision.

"You too, Swanna! Aqua Jet!" Skyla immediately cried out in response as she raised an open hand to the air, commanding her bird.
With a cry the bird would dive bomb down towards the incoming Dewott, water collecting around it until a thick shell was formed. The two Water types would continue on their set paths and end up colliding in midair in an explosion of water, both Pokemon sent flying back from the impact and hitting the frozen icy ground, Swanna sliding across. 'Rain' would briefly begin to fall, leftovers from their attacks.
"Swanna! Can you get back up?" Skyla called out to her Pokemon, the bird stirring a bit before attempting to rise to its feet, slipping once on the ice but eventually finding enough footing for it to flap its wings and begin to hover in the air just above the ground. This fight wasn't over. Skyla would look towards her foe to see if it could continue to fight as well.

The second Samurai hit the ground, the arena was covered by a brilliant flash of light. While I was covering my eyes to protect them, I heard something shatter nearby. After waiting a bit for the light to dissipate, I turned to see what had broken first. What I found was some small chunks of rock and a string. Confused, I turned over to Samurai and immediately understood what that light was. He'd evolved into a Samurott.
Those small chunks of rock were the remains of his Everstone.
I immediately felt bad for him, but it was kind of hard not to since the Betyl Stone picked up on the immense anguish Samurai felt. He was keeping himself a Dewott for Chinami, and he didn't think she'd want to be with him now that he'd evolved. Fortunately, he was pretty quick to channel his anguish into anger. Swanna was to blame, after all, so it made sense. Full of wrath, Samurai charged at the Swanna, using the ice to keep his momentum while he charged Normal-type energy. Once he got close enough, he'd strike at Swanna with Slash, wanting to crush the bird for ruining his chances with the Dewott he cherished.

Samurai would bear down on Swanna delivering a single powerful Slash across the bird's entire length with one of its brand new swords. The bird would let out a caw of pain and attempted to keep itself airborne as Samurai hit the ground but alas it could not, the Slash proved to be too much, a critical hit. Down Swanna went, hitting the icy ground, knocked out cold. Pun intended.
"Swanna is unable to battle! The winner is the challenger, Terashi!" The nearby ref declared.
"You did amazing Swanna, thank you." The gym leader said as she recalled her Pokemon and approached Terashi. "You did it! I'm so happy for you!" Skyla said with a clap before taking out a pin that looked like a blue feather. "Here you go! You definitely earned this Jet Badge!"
