xPersonality: Rue isn't exactly unfriendly, but she doesn't go out of her way to be nice. She is sarcastic and competitive, hotheaded, and tends to run her mouth. She doesn't like to back down from a challenge. Rue is very energetic and it is rare to find her at rest; she likes to explore and train and do new things. Her energy gets her in trouble if she starts feeling stir-crazy, as she's likely to go looking for trouble, or otherwise start the trouble herself. Rue is motivated and ambitious, but also sometimes loses focus and can be scattered. She tends to follow her whims even when they don't line up with her goals. Rue doesn't like to get close to people. She has a hard time making friends and tries not to stick around any one person too long. If she has to be around people longer than she wants, Rue tends to joke around and keep them at a distance. Rue can be rude and callous, partly as a defense mechanism and partly out of simple bluntness.

x History: Rue was born into an unstable family. She moved constantly, never in one town, or island for that matter, for longer than a month or two. She had a brother who was older than her by two years and both were home-schooled. Their parents were often absentee and left the two alone together, and so they were very close to one another. While often left on their own, their parents were busy working transport for stolen goods and pokemon; the life wasn't easy but the money was good. Parenthood impeded their business and the family slowly broke apart, Rue and her mother leaving her father and brother when she was eight. A few years after, her mother abandoned Rue in a busy city. She was soon picked up and eventually put into the foster care system.
Public school was something new and terrifying to Rue. She'd never been around people her age before, let alone so many of them. It was a difficult adjustment and Rue was often in fights with classmates and teachers. She was expelled from two separate schools and burned through families willing to take her. Rue was secretive and unwilling to trust any of the adults that came into her life and so her problems continued, even being arrested multiple times over misdemeanors. She fell behind in her schooling and attempted running away a few times.
Things changed when she was moved to a new home when she was fourteen. They lived in a small, rural town and ran a bed, breakfast, and Pokemon daycare. Rue was given her own room, as the small lodge never quite filled up. That and the acres of forest around the town gave Rue plenty of space; they were patient with her and in such a small town, Rue didn't have much trouble to get into. Once she was more settled, her family gave her a few jobs around the inn: she would help with breakfast in the morning, and then would exercise whatever Pokemon were staying with them at the time. Between that, her fosters began home-schooling her and got her on track with graduation. Rue mellowed out living with them. She still didn't open up much about her biological family, but she managed to get her life on track.
In the off-season, her new family would often hike and camp in the surrounding forest. Rue grew a love for adventuring and being outdoors, and learned how to take care of herself on her own. She also started offering visitors battles when they'd come by, giving her a small taste of the world of Pokemon training. Rue stayed working with the family for a few more years but set out at seventeen to explore on her own. She'd traveled much when she was young, but never got to enjoy anywhere she'd been. Rue wanted to travel and train so she hit the road and didn't look back; she does frequently call home, though.
