User Image How long had it been since he had seen another pony? He couldn't remember clearly, he had seen only the darkness of the garden. The darkness, the black blossoms that peppered the dark green vines. Shaking his head against the sudden sunlight of the open grounds past the Everfree forest, Dark Raven squinted upwards towards the cloud strewed skies. Was it always this bright out here?

"Where have I gotten myself to now?" Dark Raven muttered to himself still squinting.

Black tail flicking behind him, the white and black colt headed away from the trees and towards where he thought he saw buildings. Something at the very least, perhaps there are others there that could tell him where he was? There were just so many questions running around Dark Raven's head that he almost stumbled over his own hooves.

"Hungry..." Was one last thing he muttered, not noticing before the grumble in his middle. His stomach telling him that he hadn't eaten in a couple days. The feeling just now hitting him, Dark Raven tumbled to the side in the grass as everything else swirled around him.

User Image Rain had fallen not but a day ago and a young filly was itching to escape her home. She had sat glumly as raindrops slid down the panes of glass that blocked the fresh air from entering. This day though, the weather ponies had thinned the clouds to let the sun shine on high and the last drops of rain dripped from eve and hanging. Her hooves were quick to dash from her perch at the window to the door.

"I'm going outside!" The black filly called over her shoulder as she pulled the door open and to the outside.

She didn't hear the returning voice telling her not to wander too far and to not get too dirty. Nope, she heard not a word of it as the first puddle she came to she was in it. Laughter rolled from her tongue as she kicked at the puddle before dashing off trailing water behind her.

Leaving Ponyville to the fields that surrounded and bordered the Everfree Forest, the filly rolled in the rain draped grass getting a few blades tangled in her mane. It was only when she saw something, someone standing out against the lush green. Tilting her head, the filly fluttered her small wings before folding them again.

"Hello? Someone laying over there?" She called to the white patch in the grass.

No reply came from the spot. Frowning, she moved slowly closer, picking out legs and wings. It was another pony, maybe a little bigger then she was, but a pony all the same. She stopped close to the fallen pony and nudged him a little with a hoof.

"Hey, you ok?"

User Image The grass was cool against his cheek as his ear twitched against another blade. The rustling of something moving around him cause his eyes to open to only close tightly again. Too bright, it was too bright here, much too bright.

"Hey, you ok?"

These words invaded his thoughts, shoving aside his own concerns. So there were others around in this bright world, thriving in the sunlight. His ears gave another twitch and he nearly shot to his hooves as who ever it was nudged him. Stumbling a couple steps away from the stranger, a female from the sounds, Dark Raven kept his back to her.

"Don't touch me." He hissed slightly, voice low. "You will become ill if you touch me."

Would this stranger become ill though? He didn't know, he just knew that he wasn't feeling the best. Shaking his head, body quivering from the effort to just to stand, he turned his head to look at the smaller black filly. Those dark blue eyes staring at him from among the black of her coat. He could feel himself becoming lose within those dark blues, so much so that he collapsed to the ground again. Her faint voice the last thing he could hear.

User Image The filly frowned as the colt jumped up after she touched him and stumbled away only to collapse again. An ear flicking to the side, she didn't quite know what to say to his words. "Ill? You don't look the best yourself.." She said looking down at him.

The filly sighed as the colt seemed to have passed out completely. His white coat marred at the front hooves by strange gray staining. Walking around him one way, taking in the black and white wings. She stopped again watching the colt.

"You are a strange pony. Come on, you're coming home with me." Just she didn't know how she was going to get him there. It wasn't like she was a unicorn and could float him home.

This was going to be a pain, rolling the colt a bit she wiggled her slightly smaller frame beneath him. With a grunt she raised back up to all four hooves and started walking. Her small wings fanned out at her sides to help with balance and to aid in keeping the colt where he laid.

"You are heavy, even as thin as you look." She said continuing the long walk home. The thought crossed her mind that made her grin ever so slightly. "Mom is going to have a fit."

User Image How long had he been asleep? The last thing he remembered was a strange black filly. The world swirling into the blackness of her coat. Dark Raven's eyes fluttered a little as he started to wake. He was laying on something soft, softer then the grass in the field. Even the air around him was different, it was warm here. As his visioned cleared the room around him changed. The floral wallpaper came into focus, even the smell of something cooking entered his senses.

"Where am I?" his voice a little rough around the edges. "How'd I get here?"

Sitting up on the soft surface, rather the bed, he had been placed in. Dark Raven squinted around the lavishly furnished room, one that was fitting for a girl rather then him. He couldn't understand how he got from the grassy field to this place. Then he remembered. The filly, the one black as the garden he lived within. Had she brought him here? He needed to leave, quickly, before disaster fell upon her and the house.

"I have to get out of here. Who knows if it will follow me here." Cryptic as he was, Dark Raven eased out from under the warm, welcoming blankets and onto the hard wood flooring. Only stopping as someone spoke to him, tensing, fear in his mind. He was found!
PostPosted: Wed May 30, 2018 6:54 pm

User Image "And where do you think you are going?" The filly asked as she stood in the door with a basin of water and a cloth. "You shouldn't be out of bed. My mama says that you should stay in bed for a few days." There was concern in her voice, more so in her eyes.

Starling moved over to a small table in her room and placed the basin down before walking over towards the strange white and black colt. He had been a pain to drag back into town, when she reached her home, her mother had come to help move him into her room. It was really the only place she thought to put him. Starling walked over to the colt, looking at his face some. He was very pale, even for being white.

"Is everything alright? You look like someone's after you." This made her frown, who would be after a colt?

User Image Dark Raven turned his gaze on the filly, her innocence was almost too much for him, it was something he feared. It was always the innocent that were hurt, he had been innocent... Once.. Now he felt himself as cursed, someone who had to protect those who stumbled into the wrong side of the Everfree forest. Stumbled into the black garden that was forbidden to enter...

"I can't be here. You wouldn't understand, but I can't be here!" He stomped a gray streaked hoof against the floor. "You won't understand the danger you have put yourself and everyone else here into."

He sounded like a mad pony, someone spouting gibberish as the filly just stared at him wide eyed. Turning his head away, he tried walking only to stumble slightly, he was weak. Weaker then he had first thought, it was a wonder he had made it this far through the forest and into the grass field. Closing his eyes he waited to feel the floor, but he felt something else. Turning his head slightly he looked at the filly who leaned against him trying to help.

"I have to get back, before someone discovers it. I have to protect it and those who wander too close." He said swaying a little, leaning more against the filly, just about putting all his weight against her. "No one can wander inside, to be trapped forever in thorns."
PostPosted: Wed May 30, 2018 7:55 pm

User Image What the heck was this colt spouting now? He couldn't leave! He could barely stand on his own, let alone walk. Shaking her head, still a little wide eyed at the colt as he made it quite plain that he needed to leave. "You can barely stand." Starling mentioned as she soon came rushing forward to help keep the colt on his own hooves.

"Come on lets get you back into bed..." She paused a moment as he started talking again. "Danger? What sort of danger? And what do you mean 'it'?" There were many questions she wanted to ask the colt, but he wasn't looking too good. "Also my name's Starling, will you tell me yours?"

With gentle nudging, Starling turned the colt around to get him back to the bed. She wasn't going to let him go anywhere until he was... Well... Sane. Or at least when he didn't look like he was on death's door. "Come on, back into bed, I will bring you some oat broth. It should help, You are quite thin, thinner then even some of my class mates." With the colt back under the covers, his eyes were barely open, Starling turned to head back out of the room. Though she did stop at the door and look back over her shoulder. "And don't leave the bed this time, I might tie you to it the next time." With that she left to get something for the colt to eat.. Who ever he was..

User Image Dark Raven didn't know what the filly was spouting when she mentioned that he could barely stand. This he knew... Somewhat. He didn't know what she meant by being thin. While it was true that he didn't eat exactly the best in the garden there wasn't much there that was edible. He came out of the garden once and a while, most times when everyone was sleeping and slipped away with the supplies he needed before dawn. He could have been seen as a thief, but it wasn't like anyone missed a few carrots, apples and things like that. Shaking his head, he looked at the filly as she moved him back towards the bed.

"The danger you do not need to know. For knowing it, it will know you." He put simply, his ears flicking backwards as she spoke her own name. "Starling? If that is your real name, you shouldn't speak of it so lightly. I will humor you with my own, it's Dark Raven."

Flopping back upon the bed, watching the filly, Starling, exit the room, the thread of her tying him to the bed making him grin. There were worse things that tied him to the ground then her words. Glancing at a window that was beside where he laid, the sun was still high in the sky. He had to wonder how long he had been there, how long had he been asleep.

He sat up again, getting a better look out the window. He was on a second floor of the home, he could see the rooftops of the nearer homes that were just a single floor. The sounds of other ponies drifted off the streets below and to his ears. He would have to leave soon, he didn't know if anyone would wander to his part of the forest or not. It was never safe.

"Why am I here? Besides to get supplies... Even if I can't pay for them." He muttered softly to himself before looking down at his stained hooves. Stained from the corruption he safe guarded other ponies from. Corruption that slowly crept up his legs, if he weren't careful it would strangle his heart into darkness. "No pony can know of it's touch."

User Image Starling hadn't moved away from the wall close to the door to her room. She stood there listening to the strange colt, the one who had called himself Dark Raven. Frowning to herself she moved away from her spot and towards the stair and to the kitchen. Some reason that name had sounded kinda familiar, but it was just an old foal's tale. The guardian of the darkest parts of the world. Places no pony could enter without his permission or there were consequences. Shaking her head she headed to get the colt something to eat.

"He can't be the same pony, that was ages ago if it really happened. This one is a colt." She said still frowning, thinking of going to find the book the story was in. "it's all just coincidence. He probably just thought of that name cause he doesn't want to tell me his own."

Starling looked around for her mom to ask her, but it seemed the older pony had left on an errand or something. That was normal, there was always someone who needed her, being a midwife and all that. Some mares called on her to help with births and such. "I can always ask her later.

Spooning some of the broth her mom had heated up into a bowl, Starling set to the task of taking it up to the colt. It wasn't an easy task as she broth slopped against the sides of the bowl. She knew she had filled it too much as drops hit the floor. She would clean it up later... Before her mom got back, that was for sure.

"Hey, Dark Raven, I got you your broth..." She stopped at the door of her room and just stood there. Her bed was vacant, the window open, well she had left it that way. Stepping inside she checked the corners of her room to see if he were there. "Dark Raven?" She called again, setting the bowl down.

Dashing over to the window she put her hooves against the sill and looked outside. Just past her window was the roof to the porch below. It was there that she saw him, his black and white wings stretched out at his sides. In a way he looked like he was getting ready to jump. Gasping, Starling scrambled to pull herself out of window and out onto the roof.

"Are you crazy?! What are you doing out here?" She stopped just behind him, his head turning slightly to look at her, but he just stands there, wings outstretched.

That look on his face, one of utter stone. It was almost like he was looking straight through her. It sent chills down her spine, for a moment she thought he had grown much larger, his wings were three times their normal size and something poked out his bangs. Shaking her head she looked back at the colt. What had see seen? A trick of the light? Her story time hero?

She suddenly found herself unable to move, it had come down to staring match. Who was going to be the first to blink?

User Image He had listened until he could no longer hear her hooves against the floor. He had a feeling that she hadn't gone too far after leaving the room, at first. Now he was sure that she was truly gone to get the broth she had mentioned. Leaving the soft, welcoming softness of the bed, he went to the window and looked out. The wind blew the warmth on his face.

"Warmth." Was all that came from him as he looked at the small roof that stretched beneath the window.

The roof looked sturdy enough for a small pony like himself to stand on, for at least a little while. Pulling his thin frame through the window, Dark Raven stood and turned his face towards the sun. His wings opening at his sides to maximize the area for the sun to warm. Absorbing the heat, it felt better then anything else, even laying in Starling's bed.

This simple peace was shattered as her voice, panic strained, shattered it like glass. The shards of darkness and silence fell slowly around him and broke infinitely against the ground of his mind. He turned his face towards the filly. A mask of stone was in place as he just stared, the expression on her face changed from panic to one of fear and confusion. He could only guess what was going through her mind.

His wings stretched upwards before half folding over his back, lifting a hoof he made to turn and completely face her. It was only when he heard the porch roof creak underneath them. What had been sturdy wasn't so with the two of them on it. His movements were quick, as the stone tiles slipped away from where he had been standing. Just a blur of motion, from even in his weakened state. The sense of duty ticked away like an ever wound clock in the back of his skull.

"Jump!" He shouted at Starling, startling her out of her stooper, his sudden outburst cause her to jump just about out of her own skin before the two were tumbling through the open window, knocking the bottom frame askew in passing...
PostPosted: Thu May 31, 2018 7:57 pm

User Image A shout, a blur and she felt like she were flying backwards. Almost like she had stepped into poison joke and couldn't fly forwards anymore. Soon Starling found herself laying on her own bedroom floor, her lower window askew in it's track. What had just happened? She was just standing there staring at a colt, one she had dragged home from the fields outside of town. This colt who called himself Dark Raven.

Shaking her head, she looked around from where she lay, she was on her back, but not entirely on the hard flooring of her room. Something was beneath her, scrambling from where she laid, she looked down at the colt, at Dark Raven. He laid unconscious on her floor. His wings laid folded against his side, folded away from harm, even though black and white feathers drifted through the air.

"What happened? What was that?" She went over to her damaged window and glanced out at the roof. Some tiles were out of place, but it looked solid like she could step out onto it again. "Who are you, really?" She turned back to Dark Raven, not sure if she was feeling more of, fear or curious. Both seemed high on her list, for different reasons...

Pulling a blanket and pillow from her bed, she placed the pillow under his head and a blanket over him. She didn't know if she could lift him herself off the floor. But she was going to get that book she had thought of earlier. She wanted to know if he was the same one, the same Dark Raven from the Forbidden Garden story.

"There's more to you then it looks, ain't there." she muttered heading to the next room for the story book, she had reading to do..

User Image The sun had descended towards the horizon as Dark Raven came around once more. Driven from his fitful sleep, if one wanted to call it that. As he lifted his head up from the pillow he watched the shadows cross the wall as the sun ever sank. He had been away too long, this he knew, but new sores made it harder for him to move. Bruises welled on his side, wincing he paused a moment to remember how they were caused.

"The roof, the timbers weren't as sturdy as they should have been." He muttered forcing himself up through the pins and needles in his side. "That filly, Starling.." He paused looked to one side of where he laid, once more in her bed.

He caught sight of the black filly laying on the floor, her legs hugging a pillow as she twitched a little. Seems she had fallen asleep awaiting for him to awaken again. He shook his head at the smaller filly before looking towards the steaming bowl of broth on the side table. Someone had replaced the old one that had gone cold. Most likely the older pony she lived with.

"I caused too much trouble here. I should leave soon, before anything else befalls these ponies." Shifting slightly as to not awaken the filly, he looked at the bowl, his stomach reminding him of his hunger. Something that had been at the back of his mind all day. With all that had been happening, he had all but forgotten. Now it was a gnawing pain in his gut that wasn't going away. "I suppose that this was left for me. Can't let it go to waste."

With that he started eating, still trying to be quiet, Starling seemed to be enjoying her sleep. There was also something heavy on the end of the bed, turning his head he noted a book. It was open to a specific page. In the fading light through the window he couldn't quite make out what it said, but it made him curious. Had Starling been reading before she fell asleep? If so what had it been about?

Frowning, his wings started to itch, a feeling he didn't like. And he didn't know what was causing it... Something foreboding was going on and he didn't think he wanted to know what it was...
PostPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2018 8:49 pm

User Image It was just after dawn when Starling finally roused from her sleep. Had the night passed already? She felt like she had just gone to sleep... On the floor.. Glancing around she sat up with a start pushing her blankets towards the bottom of... Her bed? Blinking a couple of times to make sure that she wasn't still sleeping she looked around. Hadn't she been on the floor before?

"How'd I get here? Wasn't Dark Raven..." She paused as the sound of something shifting on her floor made her stop.

Ears flicking slightly she leaned over to peer over the edge towards the floor. Laying there was a white coated colt, Dark Raven. So he hadn't left after all, but why was he on the floor instead of her? Tilting her head to one side she looked back out the window. CRAP! She as going to be late!

"Shoot shoot shoot. I over slept!" Starling threw herself from the bed and raced across the room to grab her bags. The weekend had flown past, yesterday especially. With the discovery of the colt and everything else that had happened.

Stopping a moment she looked back to see him watching her through half lidded eyes. Seems that she had awoken him as well. Frowning slightly in thought she went back to Dark Raven to tug at him. "Come on, We're going to be late for school." She said as he just stared at her oddly. "You do... Go to school right?" Now she wasn't too sure, there was a lot she didn't know about him...

User Image Dark Raven watched the filly as her scrambling around the room had awaken him. What was all the fuss about now? Sure he had put her into the bed and taken up position on the floor near the window. Which was still ajar and unable to close completely. Blinking a couple times, yawning and looking to go back to sleep his was roused again as Starling pulled at him.

"School?" He questioned, where he was from there wasn't any school, it was a mystery to him... "No, don't think I do... But that is alright, you just go." He made a shooing motion with a gray tainted hoof.

He was going to use this opportunity to leave when Starling left for her 'school'. He had been away too long, even if it were just two days. He had to hope that no one wandered close to the garden... Then again he had noticed that many ponies stayed clear of the forest... Perhaps things were just as he had left them.

"I need to get supplies and get back home.." Dark Raven muttered as he listened to Starling flee the house, wishing her mother a good day. He was alone... And now it was time to leave.
