◈ WHERE: An outdoor mall.
◈ WHEN: Early afternoon.
◈ WEATHER: Warm outside, pleasantly air-conditioned inside.
Pohl floated just outside The Imaginarium, the twenty dollar bill his guardian had given him held loosely between his fingers. He and Fisher had been to this collection of stores numerous times before, but the last time he had seen this particular space, it had been a clothing shop full of pounding music and ripped-up t-shirts. He had braved the bass out of curiosity, emerging with a pair of suspenders patterned in a rainbow of little skulls. The frei wasn't wearing them today, decked out in a cheery yellow short-sleeved dress shirt instead, but the skullspenders remained one of his favorite articles of clothing. No matter how cool they were, however, this Imaginarium was far cooler.
The store's front windows sparkled with hanging crystals and a large model solar system that included ousted planet Pluto. Just inside the door, Pohl could see kits that explored a wide range of projects:
butterfly husbandry
stargazing
shrinkydinks
tadpole parenting
painting
papercraft
bracelet making
slime
and
tie dye

Pohl was mesmerized. He wanted to go inside, but he knew that doing so would trigger the end of this wondrous excitement he was currently experiencing. A few more minutes out here soaking in the possibilities wouldn't hurt anyone.
