Vera wasn't sure if she was asking for further clarification on the topic or was simply repeating what she'd already heard countless times prior. Not just from her friend, but from her husband and the various guards as well. Given what they knew of the attack, she was the prime suspect. But it had been so long since she'd last seen her... Frankly, Vera had difficulty believing Aeroniel could possibly be involved. Sure she was strict, sometimes cold, but she was responsible and always had placed the Queen's - the Springs' - needs first.
Surely she could never...
In her thoughts she'd started to be pulled away from the corridors she frequented. She blinked before raising her voice once more before offering some resistance to their movements. "Tox, where are we? Am I even allowed down here?" She hadn't even known so many paths existed...

Sending prayers to the Waters and Alu to bring them to the babies, Tox moved with confidence. That confidence could easily lead to the false assumption she knew exactly where she going. Even Tox herself believed that to be fact.
Pulled from the single minded pursuit, Tox had to refocus. Vera earned several very slow blinks and a facial expression emoting 'huh'. "Of course" Why wouldn't she be allowed down here. Was down here off limits? Well, it was to anyone with ill intent for the royals but this was Vera. It was fine.
Right?
Sure. Whats the worst that could happen?
By whatever logic guided her healing mind and spirit, Tox pointed to a section of wall. Unremarkable except for the slightly different detailing along the molding. "There, that way." One push and the wall would give way. This backdoor would lead directly out.
Also directly to her girls as the logic went. Conveniently, it was also half way 'round the palace to lead right back to Veras.

Well, if Tox said she was allowed down here...
Pushing the nagging thought that perhaps this area wasn't for those of lower handmaiden clearance - even if she resisted, there was no doubt Tox would continue on or make a scene that could amount to even more trouble - the older naiad's eyes glanced around as she followed behind. She wasn't sure why, but just being down here was making her heart race and her scales grow chilly.
She audibly gasped as the wall caved in.
What in Alu's Spring...
Well, there was no mistaking it, this was definitely something she wasn't meant to know about. But there was little chance of her being able to forget about it.
Oh well... Better not to worry about it so much. Not like she could just unsee it or something.
Unless the queen had someone who could erase memories?
Nonaiad of that sort came to mind...
But what if they'd already erased all memories she had of them upon her learning! Oh the tragedy! To think she could have met somenaiad with such a power!
Okay Vera you old fool, time to stop thinking. Stop thinking and just keep swimming.
And thus she did.

Once they were through, the wall went back to how it was. Just like it was normal. Following the normal, Tox continued to follow a path that made sense in her haze addled mind. The details of the halls became less evident, her vision starting to go fuzzy. Even with, instead of finding the twins, she lead to an ancient exit. Along the way signs of generations of happy times and or tragedies haunted their path.
There way out was found but her movements became less steady. Thoroughly exhausted at this point, Tox started floating higher or lower than reasonably never in the same spot. Her twins must be so tired, all three of them needed a nap.

Vera remained silent as she continued besides her friend, her eyes scanning the walls and the stories they seemed to tell. She didn't get it; who else could have used this path but Tox? Tox... and Tariel... Aeroniel... perhaps Turin and some of the guard - did her husband know about this path? If he knew... To think he'd be keeping so many secrets from her... She didn't like the thought of that one bit.
He probably didn't know this existed. Probably.
Who else...? Sadron? It wouldn't be unsurprising if this place was restricted to only those closest to the queen. Part of her was glad Aeroniel wasn't around these days to find out she'd been somewhere she was not meant to be, though that relief lasted only a moment. Seriously... Aeroniel... Where were you? Why didn't you just show up and clear your name...?
The naiad could feel her friend beginning to waver more quickly; the drugs must have been starting to kick in. While Vera would have normally been quite happy for Tox to get some much-needed rest, now was not the time. Not with them being in a place she wasn't supposed to be and without her having any idea about what was going on.
"Tox...?" she quietly pressed as she gave her hand a squeeze. "Come... Let us return home. Can you lead us back home...?"
