【Shinobi Rank】[ACADEMY STUDENT] Academy students (忍者学校生, Akademī-sei) make up the student body of the Academy, where they are trained and prepared for life as a shinobi. They are not an actual part of the shinobi force, as they are still in the process of mastering the very basics of the ninja lifestyle. However, they can be conscripted as part of the war potential in times of emergency.
Academy students spend their time honing the various skills they are required to have and undergoing various tests and exams to see how they progress. Besides ordinary school subjects such as history and mathematics, they are taught the basics of ninjutsu, taijutsu, and most likely also genjutsu. This includes learning about chakra and how to control it, tactics, hand seals, they are taken through the handling of ninja weapons and tools, like shuriken and kunai, learning how to throw and wield them through target practice, and several E-rank techniques, such as the Clone Technique and the Transformation Technique. They are also trained in working both individually and in teams.
[GENIN] Genin (下忍, Literally meaning: low ninja, Meaning (Viz): junior ninja) are the lowest level of ninja and also the ones that display the most difference in power. When they become genin, ninja start to do their bit for their village's economy – being sent on missions that the village gets paid for. They are typically sent either on D-rank missions, which are almost entirely risk-free jobs of manual labour, or, rarely, on C-rank missions, which are a cut above that and begin to verge on real "ninja" work that have a very low possibility of risk to the ninja involved. When Konohagakure was short-handed on upper-level ninja because of the invasion, the village had to occasionally send genin on higher-ranked missions.
Genin are put in four-man cells, or squad, consisting of three genin and a jōnin-sensei, in order to learn teamwork and experience true ninja life under the supervision and protection of an elite shinobi. The make-up of these teams is based on the individual skills of the genin, so that there will be a balance between the teams.
[CHŪNIN] Chūnin (中忍, Literally meaning: Middle Ninja, Meaning (Viz): Journeyman Ninja) are ninja who have reached a level of maturity and ability that primarily consists of leadership skills and tactical prowess. Chūnin are typically sent on C-rank or B-rank missions. Some of them, like Iruka Umino and Shino Aburame move on to become Academy teachers.
To become a chūnin, a genin participates in a large examination, known as the Chūnin Exams. Those who pass the test and become chūnin are eligible to wear an identifying flak jacket that holds ninjutsu scrolls. This vest is not mandatory; instead, some opt for more elaborate clothing like capes and robes.
[JŌNIN]:Jōnin (上忍, Jōnin, Literally meaning: High Ninja, Meaning (Viz): Elite Ninja) are generally highly experienced and highly skilled shinobi who serve as military captains. Jōnin are generally able to use at least two types of elemental chakra. It is not unusual for jōnin to go on missions alone. They are often sent on A-rank missions, and if experienced enough, S-rank missions as well (which are considered to be the greatest difficulty).
To become a jōnin, one may be recommended. If enough villagers and the respective Kage deem the shinobi to be fitting to the rank, they will be promoted. In the anime, another way to become a jōnin is to participate in the Jōnin Exam.
When a ninja becomes a jōnin, they may be assigned to supervise a three-man genin team. Their duty will be to instruct and train them to become competent ninja. They also can decide when the genin are ready to participate in the Chūnin Exams.
In Konohagakure, it is up to the jōnin to decide whether a candidate Hokage would be given the position permanently.
[JŌNIN COMMANDER]: The Jōnin Commander (上忍班長, Jōnin Hanchō) is a position in the shinobi system of Konohagakure. As a representative of the regular shinobi forces, they are a member of the council, giving them a say in important matters such as choosing a new Hokage. They are the highest-ranking normal shinobi in the village, but still officially a Jōnin themselves.
[TOKUBETSU JŌNIN]:Tokubetsu Jōnin (特別上忍, Tokubetsu Jōnin, English TV: Special Jōnin, Literally meaning: Special High Ninja, sometimes known as Tokujō for short) are ninja who, rather than having all-around jōnin skills, only excel in a specific area, much like warrant officers in real-world militaries.
KAGE] Kage (影, Literally meaning: Shadow) is a title reserved for the leader of one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries' hidden villages. They are collectively known as the Five Kage (五影, Gokage, Literally meaning: Five Shadows). A Kage oversees the activities of their village, from sending ninja on missions to making the hard decisions regarding the safety of their people. A village's Kage is generally acknowledged as its most powerful ninja.
[AÍMA] The Aíma (Literally meaning: blood) are renowned ninja from the ninja world. Their prowess as a shinobi exceeds even that of the Kage by MARGINS. This Rank Is Currently Closed To ALL SHINOBI DUE TO NARRATIVE PURPOSES

【Shinobi Classification System】[MEDICAL-NIN] Medical-nin (医療忍, Iryō-nin) are ninja who specialise in medical treatment and use of medical-oriented techniques to heal others. Becoming a medical-nin requires high intelligence and excellent chakra control. A medical-nin is trained to avoid getting injured in any way, for the reason that if they are injured, then there would be nobody to heal the other members of their team. Medical-nin accompany other ninja on high ranking missions to increase the success rate of the mission and overall survival rate of the squad.
[MISSING-NIN] Missing-nin (抜け忍, nukenin, English TV: Rogue Ninja, Literally meaning: runaway shinobi) are ninja who abandon their village with no intention of returning. Missing-nin are criminals in effect, if not before their defection then certainly after abandoning their duties. As such, missing-nin are listed in their village's Bingo Book to be killed on-sight; Kirigakure's hunter-nin are specifically assigned to eliminate these missing-nin. Although some missing-nin may continue wearing their village's forehead protector, they no longer swear allegiance to their village; members of Akatsuki — most of them missing-nin — carve scratches across their forehead protectors to symbolise they have rejected their village.
[MERCENARY-NIN] A Mercenary ninja (傭兵忍者, Yōhei Ninja) is a skilled ninja who is hired to fight for another country other than their own in exchange for money.
Before the founding of shinobi villages, the majority of the clans in existence at that point were mercenary military forces for hire by whomever.
[SENSOR]:A sensor type (感知タイプ, Kanchi Taipu, Literally meaning: perception type) is a shinobi that is capable of detecting the presence of others. There are several methods of sensing, but the most common one is through a target's chakra.
A skilled sensor can detect their targets from a great distance, as well as differentiate persons by their chakra signature alone. They are even able to tell when other sensors are using their abilities. Karin is able to tell exactly who is among a crowd of people and her sensory skills are such that she is even able to tell if her targets are lying based on any fluctuation of their chakra. Mū and Tobirama Senju have displayed that sensors can discern between chakra signatures of shinobi from different populations and even link them back to relatives; for example Mū commented that Gaara and his father Rasa share similar chakra signatures, he also noted that different chakra signatures from different villages were gathered in one place; while Tobirama was able to discern that Karin was descended from the Uzumaki. Nagato, another skilled sensor, was able to detect the exact location of the person controlling them despite that person erecting a barrier around themselves. Members of the Yamanaka clan have even displayed a technique whereby sensory perception can be transferred to other non-sensors.
[ANBU/HUNTER-NIN]: The Anbu (暗部, English TV: Anbu Black Ops, Literally meaning: Dark Side), short for Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai (暗殺戦術特殊部隊, Literally meaning: Special Assassination and Tactical Squad), are covert operatives dispatched by their Kage. Anbu are recruited from their village's standard shinobi forces, hand-picked by their Kage for their individual capabilities and special skills. Age, background, gender, or previous rank bear no significance in this decision; however, in tradition, shinobi are not selected as Anbu unless they are at least 13 years old, While on the job, Anbu wear masks and use code names to conceal their identity, leaving only their Kage informed. They typically work in teams, formed on the mission's requirements. There are apparently no true ranks within the Anbu; team leadership and hierarchy seem to be based on merit and experience. The leaders of the teams are called squad leaders (分隊長, Buntaichō), a position held in high regard.
Since members mainly are tasked with assassinations or disturbances in foreign countries, Anbu dislike letting anyone know their identities, and as such, most of nation's citizens aren't aware of who is and isn't an Anbu. Stemming from the secrecy surrounding the group's membership, people speculate that villagers who come and go from the village without eating are Anbu. Hunter-nin: Hunter-nin Corps (追い忍部隊, Oinin Butai), also known as the Corpse Processing Team (死体処理班, Shitai Shori Han) is a special team within Kirigakure's Anbu, consisting of hunter-nin (追い忍, oinin, English TV: tracker ninja), which are given the specific duty of hunting down missing-nin. They completely erase the person they're searching for by means of their superior assassination techniques and medical skills.
They could be seen wearing standard armoured Anbu uniform or, in some instances (such as Haku and Ao), a blue kimono with a striped, turtle-necked undershirt. They may also wear a mask with thin slitted eye-hole and a wavy design in place of the mouth, and their village symbol on the forehead. Their masks have human resemblances, rather than the typical animal resemblance most Anbu masks possess. They kill their target, taking the head as proof, and then completely dispose of the body by using various methods, such as cremation or the summoning of wild carrion crows to devour the corpse. This is done in order to make sure the village secrets which a ninja's body holds — such as chakra types, herbs eaten, ninjutsu, special medicine, and kekkei genkai — will not be revealed to outsiders. Hunter-nin are supposed to destroy the corpse at the very spot the body is lying; it is not to be moved after it is dead, and only the head is taken back to prove that the missing-nin is in fact dead. As a requirement, they must possess a thorough and intimate knowledge of human anatomy. Due to their reputation for utterly and completely obliterating the remains of their targets, they are code-named "The Undertaker Squad" (当る隊, Atarutai).
[JINCHŪRIKI]: Jinchūriki (人柱力, Literally meaning: Power of Human Sacrifice) are humans that have tailed beasts sealed within them. They exhibit extraordinary powers due to the immense chakra reserves they possess.

【Jutsu Rank】E Ranked: E-rank (Eランク, Ī ranku) is one of the six classifications. It is followed by D-rank. It is used exclusively when classifying techniques intended for Academy Students. A number of E-rank techniques must be learned before ninja can graduate, and are only difficult in the sense that students may not have learned how to properly control their chakra. With time, E-rank techniques like the Body Replacement Technique become second nature for seasoned ninja.
D Ranked: D-rank (Dランク, Dī ranku) is one of the six classifications. It is preceded by E-rank and followed by C-rank. It is typically used when classifying techniques intended for ninja of the genin level. D-rank techniques are often one of the first techniques a ninja will learn after leaving the Academy.
C Ranked: C-rank (Cランク, Shī ranku) is one of the six classifications. It is preceded by D-rank and followed by B-rank. It is typically used when classifying techniques intended for ninja of the chūnin level. C-rank techniques are often one of the first techniques a ninja will learn that require some amount of training.
B Ranked: B-rank (Bランク, Bī ranku) is one of the six classifications. It is preceded by C-rank and followed by A-rank. It is typically used when classifying techniques intended for ninja of the jōnin or chūnin level. B-rank techniques are typically useful and can be learned relatively easily with enough time, such as the Shadow Clone Technique.
A Ranked: A-rank (Aランク, Ē ranku) is one of the six classifications. It is preceded by B-rank and followed by S-rank. It is typically used when classifying techniques intended for ninja of the Kage and jōnin levels. A-rank techniques are often very useful, but need extensive training before they can be mastered. Some A-rank techniques also pose a risk to the user, resulting in their classification as kinjutsu.
S Ranked: S-rank (Sランク, Esu ranku) is one of the six classifications. It is preceded by A-rank. It is typically used when classifying techniques intended for highly experienced jōnin and Kage-level shinobi. S-rank techniques are almost always unique to a single user, and as such are trademark abilities of that user
