Maka came to the library to see if they had any books on blacksmithing from other lands. He found a few books that grabbed his attention and sat down at a table to read them. He was very interested in the types of weapons and armor made by different regions as he was only shown the craftsmanship of those of his home.

He scanned the first book on elven smithing quickly just looking at the images and not really reading the descriptions. He would return to each page to read them later, for now, he was just looking in fascination. The weapons were smaller and looked lighter than some of the things he made in the past, and the detail seemed just as important to the crafter as its ability to be used. Just the images alone were filling him with ideas that caused him to look at his hammer, he thought he had made it look nice but after looking at these designs he felt he could have put a bit more detail into it.

Maka looked away from his book and at the girl slightly startled by the sudden sound of a voice. "Oh ha sure go ahead I was distracted sorry." He spoke rubbing the back of his head with his right hand as his left held onto the book. Maka was laughing a little at himself for getting startled so easily but the designs in the book really had grabbed his attention.

He stood up as she took a seat trying to be respectful. "I am Maka Macgowan." He said introducing himself. The half-giant was a little nervous from jumping moments ago but got it out of his system. He sat back down and realized he accidentally closed the book losing his page.

Maka looked at the book in his hand and turned the cover toward the girl. "Its' a book on elven smithing." He admitted with a smile, smithing was his craft and he was proud of it. "The armor and weapons in this book look so small and light nothing like what I am used to making back home." He said opening the book back up to a page that had some images of elven swords. "Not only that but they seem to treat their pieces like they are meant to be art, all of the intricate little designs even along the blade."He continued talking showing that he was beyond just curious about the designs.

The half-giant realized he was rambling now. "Sorry. I got a little carried away." He laughed rubbing the back of his head again."What are you reading?" He asked curious about what a girl like her would read, she seemed normal to him mainly because he didn't have much interaction with humans or other races in his village. He thought back to the only human he remembers being near and could only remember his darkest day which caused him to feel fear. He quickly tried to push the thought of that out of his head and turned his gaze to the book the girl's hand hoping its' title would pull him free of the memory.

Maka smiled when she said it was fine. He listened carefully to the description she gave the book in her hands. "Sounds curious but not something I think I could read." He admitted with a nervous laugh. "I find books like that get into your head a little and mess with you in the end." He explained his reason but didn't mean it as an insult. "Not that there is anything wrong with books like that." He quickly stated with a nervous smile.

"Thank you." He said to show his appreciation for her feelings towards his passion. "But that can't be true I mean your here so something has to be driving you to want to come to this school," Maka claimed to reassure her. "If that isn't a sign of you being passionate about something in your life than I don't know what is."

Maka nodded in agreement and turned back to the book in his hand. He had already forgotten the page he was on so he just scanned the book again trying to remember what was the last thing he looked at. He finally found it after about a minute of searching, he remembered that he was looking at an elven greatsword thinking that even their biggest of weapon looked small to him. He started to read the description of the weapon to find out what materials they used to make it and how they put such artistic design into it.
