He knew about the case the case that had gone cold yet still open since Terra had been a child. Zane wouldn't have been surprised she continued to reserve an interest and even more so since she worked closely with the local justice office... Hell, he figured that would have been why she wanted the internship position when she first signed on. From staring at Terra and deadpanning down to his food, a shift in his disapproving glance, he still heard her out as he grabbed a fork and stabbed into the fried shrimp. The scent of the food was the only pleasure he could ever receive; unfortunately being a Kelpie, he was spoiled to the Feys cooking... while the humans' pleasure of cooking meals was a joke. Bitter and sour but, not a total displeasure for some unknown reason to him. Suppose it is addicting.
Zane took a breath to her mentioning the demon aloud. Among the people... although he was sure none were eavesdropping on the conversation. Still, however, a taboo to speak of. Taking into consideration and respect, Zane refused to mention his thoughts regarding how he believes the woman to be deceased, like so many others who have turned up from missing cases transformed into murder. Hearing Terra out, formulating a plan seemingly as she spoke, he flickered a grin and shook his head after taking and swallowing another bite. Waiting till she took a bite and hushed on her whimsical plan, he looked up from the food and cocked his head to the right. Hell, if she were to go through with the plan she might as well see the full case file.. then the thought of her going in alone. Good lord, he hated getting attached and this is what it feels like huh?
"I'll call out. Get Florence to replace my route tonight." Zane stated, his eyes meeting Terra's, "and meet you at sundown with your mothers' file at your home." He returned to his food and began to eat now, shoveling the shrimp into his mouth until none was left on his plate.

Terra couldn't believe her ears. Her heart leaped so hard her body jumped the slightest. Would Zane actually help her? Her whole intention of telling someone was if the chance she wound up missing or dead someone would know where she would be, unlike her mother. But for her superior to offer aid in her plan was insane. Expecting a concise, stern lecture, she received the opposite. But why would one of the best officers in the county help a subordinate walk into a likely death trap? Terra never thought about who would be affected if she were dead.Zane may get demoted... No, she was thinking too far. He's only going to show her the case; Give her details, hopefully not to discourage her from investigating the haunted hotel. It was silent for a moment as Terra played 'what-if' scenarios in her mind. She looked up at the ceiling to her left. I'll worry about it later.
"Zane..." she began and tilted her head forward, switching her gaze to him and observing his eyes on her. "You never call off. So, thank you." Then she remembered he could now get more rest for calling off. "I guess you can finally catch up on your sleep, too," she chuckled. Worries fading, she dug into her meal as it cooled to a more satisfying temperature.
Making a move for the water beside him, Zane took a long dragged out breath before drinking from the side of the glass while Terras' eyes met his. He quirked an thin brow to her and swallowed hard when she spoke his name with gentle accent. Her verbal gratitude resonating “Don’t mention it.” He spoke up, making an attempt to shrug off the rosy tightness of his stomach. He took another swallow and slumped into the booth, looking off and to the right, almost following Terras fixated point but, reflexively doing so. Zane didn't watch her eat, instead he would be off in his own world and in thought; thinking about the files and then the approach to the hotel they would take. Zane had been to the hotel on numerous occasions. The calls about adventures getting trapped, thrill seekers coming up missing and then more than a few deaths. Although the Dead End Hotel being located in the center of the town, Zane reserved his strong distaste and advised people to just stay away. Save himself the likelihood of future trouble. Tourist were the worst.
Zane returned from his thoughts and averted his eyes up then to the waitress; he raised his hand and to signal for the check. THe waitress nodded and he went for his leather-bound billfold and pulled out some cash, already having an idea to the cost. ”Keep the change,” He spoke and slipped the wallet into his back pocket. The waitress had been quick to process, she taken the officers money and then came back to give him the receipt. She gave him a soft smile, courteous and friendly. Zane thanked her, being polite like always. “Extra sleep… You’re not kidding, Terra,” he grinned and slipped his a** from the booth when Terra had finished, "Did you want to go home after this, or would you rather me drop you off somewhere?"

As always, Zane's response was short. But Terra thought for a split second his demeanor was offset. Regardless, less meant more to her, and Zane's words were never wasted. She smiled while chewing a brief moment. When he beckoned the waitress for the check, Zane respectfully tipped the sweet woman. It was admirable since these days people rarely thought of charity. As he stood, he raised the question of where her destination was. Terra gave a blank look at Zane.A blanket underneath the shade of a tree at a park sounds nice. I could get some yoga in. She then pondered of how lovely it would be to continue this off-duty time with Zane somewhere nice. If only this were a normal day and not the announcement of an event that was only made possible from worrying him. She juggled the options, but ultimately decided he would need rest. "My apartment will do, thanks," she finally answered. Then, she took a gamble by adding, "And if you want to save gas, you can rest on my couch." Realizing a bed is way more comfortable than a couch, she quickly chimed, "It's quite comfortable, I tend to take naps there, and it's a wide cushion so you wouldn't dangle off or anything." Truthfully, Terra would be fine with whatever Zane felt most comfortable with. So the thought of him denying her was no issue. "Just since you've already fed me on top of being my chauffeur...." she trailed as she pushed the exit door open and held it.
Zane gave a polite nod and wave to the restaurant staff and them; telling the two, ‘Thank you and have a good day’. The usual friendly pleasantries and exchange. Although uptight, there was always a need to carry oneself in an approachable manner and suppose he copied it from his intern companion. As he always considered her to be overly friendly and people typically responded well to the attitude. Holding the door open for him and exhibiting the same friendliness he came to admire, she spoke of returning to her apartment. An added pause caught him a little off guard when she offered to open her home to him. Hospitable woman. Taking a step from the dank building and into the overcast light, the dramatic shift in brightness caused him to squint and hold his arm just over his forehead in secondary reaction till his eyes readjusted. Uniform, tight around his shoulders, lifted. The seams threatening to be untucked until his arm returned to his side to his pocket in a retrieval of the truck keys.
Taken back from the hospitality but not missing a beat, “I appreciate the offer but I have chores. Including a shower,” Zane said with a smile to not appear rude. Changing, laundry, and then his rest within the salt marsh’s murky waters to be more specific. He would be damned to tell Terra the last, unless for comedic effect since his residence was built on the marsh. He could smell the scent of the ocean carried by the gentle breeze, the salt pushed from the restless waves… the currents must be rough due to the change of weather. Unlocking the truck, Zane opened the driver's door and slid on in. “Heh, I think the community would get a kick seeing my squad car at your house all day.”
Terra's face went solemn for she forgot that Zane needed more than just sleep. You idiot. You want to invite him to your shower too since you're both stinky? And what would you feed him? Grocery day was yesterday. The little voice in her head wrestled with her, forcing her heart to sink slightly. However she appreciated Zane for not taking her gesture awkwardly. On top of his deep voice speaking of risque humor, she was stupefied.Oh wow...Did I hear what I think I just heard? Hiding the hint of rosiness in her cheeks, she looked away from her companion and merely chuckled. "Haha, I suppose. You never know," she spoke as she tried to hide a wild smile. Heh. Today has to be the most interesting day of my life. For the rest of the ride to her apartment, Terra did everything she could to not say more about his comment.
