▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Codename: Oni Team: Omega Form: Human Location: Alone with Wraith ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Chi-Chi had spent most of the walk away in silence, holding her arm tightly and looking at her feet, glancing over in Lex's direction every now and then. Her teeth pressed against her tongue and almost cutting into it as they walked in silence, trying desperately to find something to grasp onto just so that they could talk. The way he had acted around the other Alphas before was so different from now. He was smiling and talking so freely with them that it almost made her jealous. How could she get him to be that way with her? She looked over at him once more, fumbling out that he didn't look dumb with his eyepatch. She wanted to say that it made him look cool or distinguished, like the tough heroes from comics or video games, but that was all she could fumble out through her nerves. He stopped walking, making her stop only a step ahead of him. He didn't look at her as he spoke, calling it a reminder. A lot of other students had been injured in that fight, and Elixir had done as best as he could to make sure everyone was right as rain. But even then some wounds couldn't be solved easily. "Those with more pressing injuries..." She repeated his words with barely a whisper, looking over him sadly. She remembered seeing him amongst that group. His injuries were just as in need as anyone else, and yet he still wanted to put others first. It was a quality any good leader should have. Still, it wasn't right for him to put himself last. His injuries were just as terrible. A black curtain rose from the shadows around them, forming a cylindrical wall. The column of shadow appearing so suddenly surprised her, making her step back cautiously from it and back up closer towards him. After taking a second to realize it was him and not some kind of attack, her shoulders relaxed a little more. Her natural curiosity made her want to step closer and touch it, but he explained that it wasn't solid, so she turned back to him. It became clear just how private he really wanted this to be. Turning back around to face him in the new light, not sure to expect from the shadow manipulator now. What she certainly wasnt expecting was an apology. He admitted he was wrong about before, making her think back to that first interaction they had. He was apologizing for making her lose control, and yet, he was clearly in pain from his actions of trying to be something stronger. Since they first met, she knew he had an urge to prove himself. To prove he was stronger and better than anyone else. And in this case, or at least from what she had heard, it had backfired. And now he was throwing it all on his shoulders. He was trying to be strong, but she could see the patch over his eye grow wet and leak. She took a slight step forward, pausing and lowering her arm once again. She wanted to reach out and wipe the tears off of his cheek and hold his face in her hands. She wanted to reach out and comfort him and let him know how strong he really was. But instead, she was still and silent, listening to what he wanted to say as he asked. There was so much build up to what he was going to say, she was becoming more and more anxious by the second. Then, he finally confessed what he needed to say. He called her the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. The shock hit her with the strength of a crashing building, her body frozen in place as he spoke so clearly, as if it had been practiced a thousand times. Her reaction was uncontrolled, her now wide eyes glued to his as she choked on finding the right words to say back, "I-I... That's- Do you... R-Really?!?" She stumbled hard over her words, flailing helplessly and trying to piece together something normal she could say that wasn't a bunch of mumbling. Her face was visibly red, and she practically shoved her hands onto her face to try and hide it. It was just like the first time he called her a goddess, the same feeling of warm butterflies in her chest. She had to spin away from him for a moment, trying hard to catch her breath. Had the moments before not been so intense, she might have jumped up and down and squealed with joy. She took a few deep breaths, lowering her hands to her chest and mumbling out a better, although spoken a bit fast, response, "I-I mean, that's really sweet of you to say. You... don't have to say stuff like that just because you're apologizing.""I-I um... I guess I have some things I need to confess too..." She lowered her hands from her chest, clenching them tightly as she turned back around to face him. Her cheeks were still bright red and warm from before, but she had forced herself to put on a look of determination. She had her own apologies to make, and some explaining to do, but finding the time or right words had always been such a hassle. Now he was here, and she was going to explain herself, whether it was easy to say or not. "I'm sorry for staying away so much and avoiding you. The truth of it is I should have been over things by now, but..." She looked back up at him, her lips ready to say something else, but they closed coyly, "The thing is... you're different. Different from a lot of other people."She sighed heavily, looking down at her hands for a moment before clenching them once more and looking back up at Lex as she bit her lip. How much should she say? How much would he be okay with hearing? She needed him to understand, and if he was so desperate to talk to her, he obviously wasn't afraid of her like she thought he would be. So maybe, this was right. "You see, I don't like or trust people easily. It's a bit of a bad habit, along with others. I've tried to get better at it, and I have since coming here, but... there are still moments where I close myself off. And running away and avoiding things have always been the right solutions to my problems, ever since I was little. I'm just used to doing things that way." "I appreciate your apology, but it's mostly my fault for what happened. I don't like the word monster. It... brings back too many painful memories. There are parts of my past where I was feared and outcast because of what I was. That's why I got so upset about what you said. That's why I lost control. So, at first I avoided you because I was afraid you'd be afraid of me... like everyone else...""B-but the other thing is..." She hesitated to find the words, her mind rushing back to when she saw him around the halls, interacting with others. How just the sight of him made her heart race. There was something about him that made her smile and feel good about who she was. The words from before still resonated in her mind. Beautiful. Goddess. She didn't deserve either of those titles, and yet here he was calling her that again. He had no idea just how happy it made her. "The thing is, back at the gym, for a moment you made me forget that what I could do was bad, and you made me excited to be- well, me. You said such nice things about me that I forgot all the bad things about myself. It made me want to be around you even more, even if I was upset for a little while.""Then... the fight with the Sentinels happened and... and I worried about you the entire fight. I prayed you'd be safe, but..." Her voice changed, sounding more sad and heavier than before, her eyes dropping to her hands as she clasped them together. Who would listen to the prayers of a demon, anyway? "When I came to in the infirmary, I saw your injuries and I got so worried. I know it was dumb then, but-"
At this point, she was tearing up. Images of the doctors and staff helping him as best as they could. bloody bandages and torn up skin. The bits of shrapnel being pulled from his body. The shock of seeing him in such pain and so damaged made her so scared for him, she could only do what she knew best. "Sometimes, I cause bad things to happen to the people I care about, so I thought that if I cared too much about you, you wouldn't make it. So I panicked and stayed away from you."She looked back up at him, lifting a hand and wiping away the tears in the corners of her eyes with the edge of her sleeve, "If things hadn't gone the way they did during that fight, I would have spoken to you sooner. I'm sorry..."▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ [OOC: Notice me Sempai] ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

XX【 】 Name: Alexander "Lex" Magnus XX【 】 Codename: Wraith XX【 】 Team Affiliation: Alpha XX【 】 Location: Mansion Backyard XX【 】 With: Oni / Chi Chi XX【 】 Written to music: SynthwaveXX【 】 Actions: Confessed many things to Chi Chi, Texture of the inner wall of shadows morphed several times He’d done it. He managed to apologize to her, in private, and even say what had been haunting him for weeks. It wasn’t the same as confessing his true feelings for her, but he was still sorting out just what they were. Sometimes, you have the definitions before you have the words. So, he managed to say the best way he could just how he saw her. Now . . . Now they stood in an isolation of his own devising. A wall of shadows that kept them from being seen. Ideally, he would have done this indoors in a closed room- but thanks to Amp, it was not a meeting of his own design. He still was resolved to punch her in the arm later. Hard. But that was later. Now he stood stock still, almost afraid to breathe. He had confessed how beautiful she was, and his one good eye was locked on hers. He didn’t know where this was going to go, and that terrified him. She had avoided him for weeks, and prior to this was a disastrous ending. The pair did not know each other enough to really know where this was going to go. Instead, it was dropped on her lap that he saw her so gloriously. He watched, time seeming to stand still as he read her as best he knew how. He had seen her try to react to his apology as if to comfort him- or perhaps simply to stop him. The one thing he was sure of was that she was giving him this last chance. In his mind, she didn’t want to be near him and he couldn’t fault her. So when she gave him that moment to speak uninterrupted, he was ready to take advantage of it. When he finished, he was prepared to take whatever she had to say in return. He would listen without interruption.
She was visibly shaken by his confession- stumbling over words and turning away. When she did that, he slowly closed his eye in defeat. His confidence was so shattered by recent events that he didn’t see what she was doing- only that she turned away. His heart fell, sure that this was the end. The walls of his shadows began to warble and thin. They were never solid, but like smoke, a doorway began to erode into existence before Chi Chi. A way out, clear and present. She said he didn’t have to say that because of an apology, and he almost added that it was something else. That he meant it to be separate. Before he could, she said something about confessing as well. In his mind, Wraith steeled himself. He prepared for the worst. He didn’t look up, but heard her turn around and . . . apologized? When she said he was different, the wall now behind Chi Chi filled back in, and he opened his eye. Not yet ready to look up, he froze, the walls around him seeming to swirl and move of their own accord. They were created by his mind and were without a solid form. As such, they were subject to the whims of his mental state. Like flexing a fist, it was not hard to make a shadow that had no substance, but without concentration he wasn’t really controlling its texture. Confusion and uncertainty made it begin to swirl like a cloud in a thunderstorm. Constantly changing and swirling as he tried to wrap his head around the words that came from her.
He listened. She talked about an inability to trust others, that it was a bad habit along with closing herself off. She tended to run away from things, and it was her go-to. That made him look up at her. He was both terrified and confused, a slight furrow to his brow as he looked at her hard. He didn’t know where she was going with this, but couldn’t tear his attention away. When she took the blame for what had happened, he only became more confused. He listened, hungrily devouring every word as his mind began to churn faster and faster. Every word was analyzed, layers of thought both intently listening and analyzing things. She hated the word monster- but wasn’t her name Oni? Did she simply accept the name out of accuracy? He had read a lot of personnel files while he was recovering. Nothing classified or private, but a surface level of familiarity with people. He read her file far more often than others because he missed her. That meant he was aware of her having a second form, but the file didn’t give a picture of the Oni form. Only one profile pic per file and it showed her smiling. That smile was burned into his mind, and he enjoyed it being there. He listened as she talked about being an outcast because of her mutation. Feared. Hated. She was the epitome of what it meant to be a modern mutant. Gifted with so much, and shunned for it. His walls began to swirl faster for a moment in a more aggressive manner. In the briefest of moments, he felt a rising tide of anger and rage. Not at her- but at anybody that would even dream of harming her. His hands closed slowly, fists unconsciously forming at his sides. A jagged edge peeked through the ‘clouds’ behind him at the point where the wall was closest to him. A knife ready to pierce the body of any that might harm her. Then she moved on without pause, and the blade faded back into the swirling clouds.
She spoke about the gym and opened with how he made her forget her transformation and abilities were bad. That shocked him and his eye went wide. The clouds froze in place at those words. They were kind. Reaching. He made her excited to be herself?! The walls began to smooth over, a ripple of repair that took them from being amorphous masses, and into a smooth surface. His hands, once nearly white-knuckled, relaxed into a calm pose again. ‘It made me want to be around you more’ hit him with the ferocity he had assaulted her with before. Behind him, the wall cracked like a spider web. Shadows upon themselves made it far less noticeable, but his head straightened back up as he looked at her, wide-eyed. He couldn’t imagine that she said that. His mind stalled in all the frantic analysis as he listened, solely on attempting to understand. She went on about the battle and being worried about him. She worried. She saw the shrapnel that had perforated his skin, which looked far worse than it actually was. Only his eyes were truly harmed. His left was destroyed, his right slashed. That was why his left eye was behind a patch, it was easier to heal up the right and let him move about while Elixir worked on more life-threatening issues. Regrowing an organ would be taxing, and with people in wheelchairs and bedridden, an eye did not seem nearly as important. That, and his self-pity put him last. Chi Chi couldn’t know that he had also forgone any advanced healing to remove the scars from the shrapnel. He was just healed enough to walk and see. He heard her talking about being afraid to care too much about him. His brow furrowed again, but this time in sadness. By all that’s holy, what had happened to her to make her so afraid to care?!?
He didn’t think. As was the case with her in his mind, he didn’t have a moment to wonder if he should do anything. His body lurched forward and in a split moment he went from standing away from her to being around her. The intention of giving her every ability to run away and leave disappeared like one of his shadows in the beam of a halogen headlight. Suddenly he was against her, his arms wrapped around her and holding her close. It didn’t matter to him that he didn’t ask first, or had no idea how she would react. That tear tore through his being and he was overwhelmed with the need to hold her close and protect her from that pain. Wraith’s voice was a hoarse whisper for a moment. “Please don’t.” His heart was bursting in his chest. It went from somewhere near his colon to into his throat in that mad dash to hold her. Now? He could barely think. Everything was dedicated to stopping that tear. The problem with not thinking was that he had no idea what to say or do now that he held her in his arms and could feel her warmth against his skin. “You don’t ever have to be afraid of me.”
He pulled back nervously, and leaned forward. Instead of hugging her tight, he was holding her to him and resting his forehead on hers gently. “I’ve . . . I missed you a lot. It’s dumb, since we barely know one another, but I wanted nothing more than to make you see I was strong enough. That I was worth your notice. The thought of being a hero like my own hero drove me to this place, but then I met you and things were different. You are different.” He closed his eye again, and took a moment to gather himself. The walls around them repaired and became smooth and carefully formed, again reflecting him trying to gather his faculties to speak right. To say what he needed to without blurting it out like an idiot.
He opened his eye and though it lacked the same determination and confidence of his declaration of her beauty, it was just as intense and steady as he spoke to her. “I’m not afraid of you. I can’t be- because all this time, all I’ve wanted was more time with you. I- if you really don’t mind . . . I want everything you are willing to share. Your past, your powers, anything.” He slowly pulled away from her to give her the chance to do something other than being aggressively hugged, but stayed within arm’s reach. He wasn’t going to run away. She needed to see that. As he took his half-step backward, he let his hands drag across her back and down her arms. His grip gently cradled her hands, not willing to let go. “I don’t trust people either. Getting to the institute meant traveling alone across the country, and I got a good set of reasons not to trust humans. Even others like us are so scared that sometimes you can’t fully trust them either. So I’ve not made a lot of friends here. That’s why I was so blunt with you back in the gym when you came up. Not trying to be rude, but clear that I was okay on my own. Alone.” A smile crept on his face despite himself. The joy of that memory began to seep into his mind as he remembered his initial reaction to her. “You aren’t like the others here, and it’s irresistible. Despite all that we have been through individually I immediately trusted you. I listen to my instincts, and every fiber of me is the exact opposite of afraid of you. That’s why everybody calls me my codename. I wanted to remake myself here, and the name was a great place to start. But you? You know me by my birth name. It feels right coming from you. So please- don’t run away.” To accentuate the point, he gently squeezed her hands in his. A physical reinforcement that he wanted to hold her close instead of letting go. By no means did he want to trap her or hold her against her will, but he made damn sure that she didn’t even question that he was afraid of her. The only thing he was afraid of was her running from him.
OOC: It's been three days. I really don't want to dominate/railroad the RP, but if others aren't going to post, then I will. I love this too much to wait forever. ^////^
