General Description
The armor utilizes ballistic nylon and fiberglass backing to help stop handgun round sand shrapnel, while the outer ceramic armor based on the T65-2 plate covers important areas that would result in immediately lethal wounds from rifle rounds, including the head, heart, spinal cord, groin, and major veins and arteries. The shoulders and other joints are also covered, to prevent major catastrophic injuries and due to their placement help cover most of the important parts of the body giving redundancy. While laying prone or behind cover most of a soldier's body is covered, thus protecting the soldier from rifle rounds, and at long ranges or behind cover the soft armor can stop rifle rounds. A thin steel plate is placed over the soft armor to provide stiffness and additional protection, helping to break out and catch hardened fragments like from grenades or artillery.
