At long last, her Apprenticeship was done, and Siyara was officially a Scout, free to...do...scout things. She had to admit that, thus far, it hadn't been terribly exciting, and wondered if her siblings were having similar experiences with their chosen professions; had her brother Mizu gotten any good assignments, or was he just as bored as she was right now? Perhaps she should have opted for Guard, or Warrior, but as she'd matured and it had become evident that she was likely immune, or a carrier at best, she had felt that taking such a role was the best way to do her duty to her pride and family. Whether or not doing so would ever actually make her happy, well, that remained to be seen.

She was young yet, with no deep or dearly-held convictions, only a wealth of conflicting thoughts and feelings. She'd hoped that finally being considered a full adult would help, but unfortunately, the corresponding change in rank didn't bring magically bring clarity with it. Did she really want to be a Scout? No idea. (Too late for second thoughts, anyway.) Was she relieved to be healthy, or disappointed? Did she feel guilty, or envious? Yes and yes...and yes and yes. She led herself in frustrating circles, day after day, and no amount of introspection seemed to help. It only bred more restlessness, for which she had yet to find a cure. The best she could do was to see to her patrols, to keep moving and find what distractions she could.

If thinking about things didn't help, maybe not thinking about them would.

Yeah, right.

Sorry for the delay! heart I also seem to be missing his adult cert, ha, but he's a Warrior.

Uzochi

The pale coated lion was restless. Sleep had eluded him that morning, and the warrior had wanted to stretch his legs, and scout the borders. Part of him wanted something more to do with his time... to defend the pride against some unknown foe, to sink his claws into flesh and stop some great enemy or destroyer of their way of life. Uzochi had wanted to do more than simply guard the lands like his father had -- he wanted to be something fierce, and to go down in a blaze of glory.

As a young cub Uzochi had felt certain that he would get to do great things, just like the Master Warrior Mittere. But upon reaching adulthood, the lion had found that his chosen profession was less glamorous than his youthful dreams and expectations. He had grown up strong -- though he was indeed ill, he found he seemed to have more better days than not -- and even when he was feeling run down or ragged, he had too much pride to let it show. He had respected Mittere, and still felt the loss of the lioness within his heart; he had wanted to grow up to be fierce, just like her, to do her and the pride well . . . but there was nothing to do.

Uzochi knew that peace and quiet was preferred. He knew that having a threat to take care of would cause the lions of the pride more pain and stress than anything; the fact that he had nothing much to do was a good thing, really. And yet, another part of him faced the morning hoping that maybe, just maybe, his title could be put to good use.

Mittere would have called him a fool, and some other choice words, but the lion was still young enough, and youthful enough, to be a bit of an idiot. It was hard not to feel restless in a pride like the Kitwana'antara, and Uzochi wanted to feel alive. So the lion jogged along the borders, keeping an ey e out for anything that looked amiss, cautious not to stray into the roguelands. Unfortunately, this today looked to be much like the day that came before it -- quiet, peaceful, and bor--

Now wait a minute.

Blue eyes caught sight of movement, and immediately Uzochi's ears pricked, and he walked purposefully forward. Alas, the lioness that was near the borders was familiar -- she was one of them. Though she was no stranger, Uzochi decided he might as well say hello, and make sure that she was well. "Well met," he rumbled his greeting, allowing himself to relax a little bit more. She was no threat, or at least, didn't appear to be one. "Any news to report, young Scout?" Well. Okay. So maybe he was a bit too formal, and more than a little out of practice when it came to greeting others. Uzochi couldn't help it -- having been raised under Mittere's strict paw, old habits died hard.

The trouble with not thinking about things was that, inevitably, the more she didn't want to think about things, the more she thought about them. The moment it occurred to her that she had successfully not thought about something for a few minutes, that something was back with a vengeance. It was all exceedingly frustrating, and absolutely useless, because there were certain things that thinking about didn't help. Rrgh.

The distraction presented by the approach of a pale-coated lion, then, was a welcome one - maybe not especially exciting, as he was just another native pride member, but it was still better than chasing her thoughts in circles all morning long.

"Well met," she echoed in lazily drawled-out syllables. "All quiet, so far...Sir." He was older than she, and she wasn't certain of his rank, so 'sir' seemed like the safest option.
