It was aggravating, perplexing. So troublesome. There were days where he wished he could be another breed, be another species.

Today was one of those days.

It wasn't snowy, but it was windy and cold. No matter where he went there was snow. Even on the coast the sands offered little to no comfort. So he had come here. The Elysium fields. It was his hope that it wouldn’t be as windy here nor as cold. Alas, he had no such luck. This damn weather was going to kill him. At least there were no trees to dump snow on top of him like in the northern wood. He shivered at the memory.

His ears went alert at the sight of large mound covered in snow. Was that….?! Demetri slowly approached the wolf shaped lump, hoping that he wasn’t going to encounter a dead body. He wasn’t the type to eat a wolf even if he wasn’t the one to kill them. A dead wolf offered no use to him.

Should he check if they were dead? Demetri nosed one of the limbs lightly, testing the waters. They felt so cold. ”Hey…” he nudged them with his nose. Hopefully they were alive.

Winter was bitter and cruel to the Dires. Not all made it through this unforgiving season and those who did only lived to dread yet another come the following year. It was a miracle that the population was as solid and consistent as it was considered the brutality it received from the icy months.

Arryn was somewhat adapted to the snow. His extra fluff often saved him from a few shivers here and there but this season he had no way of preparing for what blizzard was to come. There he was out in the Elysium Fields when the big one had hit. It came quickly and coated everything in a thick sheet of snow. Unfortunately, 'Ryn had been caught up in the worst of it.

The heavens must have smiled down upon the dire for it had vanished just as quickly as it had came. The male was beaten down and exhausted however. All his body would allow him to do was lay stiffly beneath the blanket of snow that had covered him. He turned into an icicle, ready to accept his cruel fate when all the sudden there was a nudge.

The dire didn't react at first, figuring it was a predator of some sort looking for scraps, but to his surprise he caught the scent of another wolf. He tensed, even more than he already had been, and shakily attempted to lift his head. It was difficult, given the weight of the snow and how weak he had become, but up came Arryn's fair beauty from the mound of ice and he peered through squinted weary eyes.

"A-are you..." he began to speak but the icy air chilled his lungs as he took a shaky breath. "S-scavenger?" Was he about to be killed? It was a possibility. He was saddened by the fact that he was just too beautiful to be eaten like a Popsicle.

Maybe the wolf really was dead.

Demetri wrinkled his nose as he took in the other's scent. How odd. He didn't smell any decay. Unfortunately, he was quite used to the smell of it. It came with roaming from place to place. Losing loved ones. Not coming to the aid of others in the right time. Feeling guilty enough to stay behind with a wolf that he had just met, who was on the brink of life irregardless.

One thing was for sure; Demetri had lived one hell of a life. And to think he was only a pup a year or two ago. Time sure flew on by.

Maybe the cold was able to slow the degradation of tissues within the body. The lower temperatures were known to freeze water. Blood would be similar to water, wouldn't it? Sure, maybe made out of different things--the two were completely different tastes and colors after all-- but maybe the same thing happened to it? If it was one thing that Demetri knew--there was a lot of blood within a body.

The crunchy movement of snow coming from above him had him pausing in his investigation; looking up towards the head. Were they....moving? The wolf tensed, watching the animal warily. There was no telling what they'd do in such dire conditions. Two eyes stared at him. Dumbly, he stared back, nose newly freckled with snow.

A voice coming from the other had him holding his breath. Waiting. Was he? Was he what? He stood there as still as can be, brows furrowing at the shaky breath. The other male was not in good shape. His maw was set in a thin line. Was he going to speak more? Or was he too exhausted?

Oh.

Demetri's tail fell and he took a step back, bowing his head. "I'm not, sorry." Did he look like the type to eat other wolves? He hoped not. It may be a wolf eat wolf world out there, but honestly, he just wasn't that type. Did he look like it? Ahhh, man. He was making a bad impression. Demetri cocked his head to the side as well as bowed it. He wasn't about to roll over for a stranger, but he didn't want to frighten the other.

"D-Do you need help out of the snow? I can dig you out." he stared at the pile of snow. God, there was just so much of it.
