Jaz woke up suddenly, almost letting the shock of battle take him to the light. Wrapping up his ingured leg in some leaves and vines he made his way to the village. At first it seemed abandoned, akin to many villages this savage tribe had pillaged. Which meant slaves where nearby. While there was a slight limp in his step, it’d slowly become that of a minor nuisance. He went through a few hutts. Finding nothing but animal skins and bare bones. Ah, that’s right... they’re cannibals. Charming… A lot of the bones scattered about looked animal, yet a few femurs and knuckles gave Jaz the impression of a poor sap that got, well, got by members of this rather uncivilized tribe. Moving toward an open space a few cages came into view, but by this point his vision became blurred. Huh? Waking up he found a small part of forearms around his neck. Turning to the side noticed a few scars, feathers, a toothy grin? What the hell? where the the only words that came to mind as one hand reached for the knife in his cargo shorts. The boy strangling him went on in grunts and screeches that where as incoherent as one could get this far from civilization. With a flick of his wrist the cage roof fell over the kid’s skull. Released, Jaz began to caugh as he regained composure.
He’d make a note about savage children in his report later.
He noticed a few more cages to his left. They where filled with poorly clothed and fairly injured folks between the lot of them. Before he could get close a sudden sensation ran through his brain. The dame as with that spearman... Catching a stick aimed at his temple, he found the brat that tried killing him before at it again for a second attempt. Yea he’s definitely going in the report. As he let go of the stick he aimed his knife at the boy, fully intent on hitting him like the last savage. It was more than apparent that Jaz had enough of s**t flinging monkeys for one day. Just as he inches closer a voice came from one of the cages. Please, s-spare the boy. He’s only a child. With both discerning eyes looking the runt over, he made the conclusion that this kid was a bit on the large side. Still, the sort pause in action didn’t stop the boy from attacking. Which led the the “Cain” in Jazpar to come out and hold him down before investigating the slaves present.
The slaves said that they’d been going about their lives before the Kumate suddenly appeared. They shot down many warriors, raped and pillaged before burning most of what these indigenous people had, probably meant to deepen the sense of defeat in them and increase compliance overall. It’s a wonder what a few years of investigation can do for a hotshot Marine. He figured the Kumate had a few spoils of war, that and he knew that budget cuts came after his payroll cause those damn nobles kept up their spending habits. So to alleviate the strain he needed to find their treasure. After inquiring about such funds the slaves told him where they could’ve been held. That was, until the overgrown runt started to shout. Don’t say s**t to this droopy eyed slaver. He’s probably here to double cross Kurr and take over all that he has! Those that belived him gasped.
Before he could retort, Jaz thought over the kind of money he could make by selling the whole island off. The look of greed filled his face a bit too much as those watching him began to shriek in fear. Ah... well you’re not wrong. I could make a lot selling ya. But my job used to be making sure a guy like me don’t make more money that I do. But your not as daft as I thought you were. After a new more questions, and the struggle of the boy beneath him, Jaz had an idea of his next course of action. Pulling out a small snail he made a call.
Captain Daud’s Office, may I ask who’s calling? Nance, where’s Daud? Who might be speaking? Nance come on... Who might- Jaz, it’s Jaz... I don’t know a Jaz that knows the cap- Cpt. Something about a scummy, reckless, mangy, flea-ridden, stray with more curiosity than lives… Look I said I was sorry about your sister, it was a drunk night and- *Ka-cha*
The sound of laughter came from below revealing the s**t eating grin of one overgrown savage runt. While his blood pressure was nearly bursting from the top of his head. Getting off the boy’s back Jaz went over to the other cages, slashing the ropes that held the wooden cages together. Once he finished freeing the would be slaves it was off to Kurr’s quarters.
