It had been a few years since his arrival in Asphodel, after their world had opened up to reveal the bigger one around it. At first, he'd hated it. It was cold, darker than he was used to, and there were too many people around. So many of them had questions in the beginning- ones he didn't want to answer. And he'd had many questions, but... did not want to ask them. Not that he really had much opportunity. The schedule at the school was pretty well packed, not unlike the one he'd had at home.

Eventually things slowed down, though. People got used to seeing Bakeneko and Naga around and he didn't have to put up with so many questions. And he'd picked up enough about the world around him to not be so baffled by it anymore. Still, he wanted to return home. Eventually he would, he was sure of it, even if he wasn't particularly well liked there on account of his heritage. That was the one thing that seemed nice about the outside world despite all of its flashing lights and loud sounds: mixed people like himself were quite welcomed inside Asphodel city.

Perhaps by the end of his time at the Academy, his own people would learn to be more open as well. He'd just have to get through his remaining years abroad before being able to find out. It wasn't like he really had a way of knowing reliably until then anyway.
