It hurt, dug deep enough to bruise -- and instead of answering, Ever sucked in a sharp breath, fought down the urge to rub at his ribs, and instead swung in with his own weapon to drive Melvin back. Sometimes, he forgot that he was stronger than he'd once been. Sometimes he was even surprised by the strength of his hunter attacks, of how closely bonded he and Amory were. Now, he slammed into Melvin like a freight engine, the same way Melvin had slammed him back. And immediately, Ever looked alarmed, pulling back. He hadn't really meant to retaliate that fiercely. HP: 5 Charge: 2/3 DMG: 17

This close, the hit smacked right into his chest at the base of his neck, and his shield immediately shattered as he was thrown back and rolled before settling in the grass. Coughing and gasping, the rod flung out somewhere across the field as Babel zoomed over and fluttered around in rapid circles over him, alarmed. Melvin had to wave his hand at it as he coughed and gasped for air to get it to NOT teleport him to Atlantis before he decided moving hurt his chest too much as he just settled for lying there, trying to retain consciousness.

"s**t, Melvin --" His weapon was banished with a thought, and Ever didn't even hesitate before wading forward, oblivious to Babel's swooping concern as he made his way over to where Melvin sprawled. Ever's movements were twitchy, and his expression was a little pinched as he knelt next to Melvin. "That was...I really didn't mean to." He started to reach out, then hesitated. "Are you okay?" His attention slid up, in search of where he'd seen Zeke. He was better at this kind of thing.

The relaxed expression faded from Zeke's face as he continued to watch the pair, and he sat up rather abruptly as a blue from Melvin had Ever sucking in a pained braath, but the skinny blonde took the hit and retaliated. Severely. Zeke wonder as he watched Melvin hit the ground, and a second later, when it became obvious that he wasn't getting up again, the former Mist rose to his feerlt. Already heading that way as Ever shot a look in his direction. "You're within the wards, he's not seriously injured." Of that, at least, he was sure. Certainly banged up and bruised, but given a day or two and he'd heal up just fine. Perks of the job. All the same, he came over to crouch on the ground beside the fallen Hunter, arms resting on his knees, to give him a cursory once over. Sometimes even a minor injury could have lingering pain. "How're you doing?"

Melvin's shoulders shook befote a moment letter his muffled chuckling could be heard. He hissed in pain from the action and stopped. Slowly, he rolled over to his back, arms wrapped to hold his sides as bits of grass clung into his hair.
"If you are going to play that rough with me, Ever..." He said through his teeth, not wanting to expand his chest too much to talk. "....take me out to dinner first."
Groaning, he tried to sit up and laid back down after an attempt. "********, that was dead on."

There was just a long moment of consideration before Ever actually relaxed, a slow seeping of tension out of his shoulders. He brushed at the soft hairs at the back of his neck, musing for a very long moment. Then he smiled. "Come around in a bit and I'll give you a drink. Would that make up for it?"

He didn't feel Ever had to be obligated to give him a drink, but on the floor made him really want one.
"Yeah....that would be nice." He didn't want to move right now though.

"Whenever you want it. I owe you one." An open-ended offer, instead of a right now one, was more likely to be taken up, he thought. Ever crouched beside Melvin, flicking a look over his body to Zeke and then back down again. "You want us to get you back to your room, maybe?" As he said it, he held out a hand in offering, to haul Melvin upright again. "We could carry you. One or both of us."

Melvin seemed more or less fine, and Zeke sat back on his heels, letting the two of them exchange witty banter for a moment. Before Ever flicked his gaze back in his direction, which had the auburn haired man twitching a questioning brow. "You're not that heavy, it'd be easy to carry you back to the dorms, or wherever else," he offered helpfully.

He grunted as he slowly sat up, but made it only that far. "If you want. I can sit here a while if not." He said, having no issue one way or another.
He brushed some grass from his hair, and he felt a bit dizzy from it. "Actually, if you could. I need to grab my stuff first. Atlantis would kill me if I left these weapons behind for anyone." He glanced up to Babel who was floating above them, watching.

Ever hoisted Melvin up, then, without hesitation -- not into a graceful princess carry but instead levering him over one shoulder. It was careful, at least, instead of rough. It wasn't a sack of flour carry, it just wasn't...romantic. That wasn't Ever. But it'd get Melvin back to his dorm, if that was what he needed.
