Outside of his magical form, the fighting style that Kokichi is most familiar with is street fighting and he will almost always use this if he engages (willingly or not) in hand-to-hand combat. Besides this, Kokichi does has small experience with Judo that he learned from his father; specifically nage-waza. He rarely uses these techniques, but he does not wish to forget what his father has taught him….

As the Magical Defender Daisuki, Kokichi is a skilled swordsman from the training he received in the guild. He is also experienced with magic-based attacks, but tends to stick with close-ranged attacks with his sword.

◆ Pᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ: Kokichi is a charismatic individual who is always looking to have a fun time. Optimistic? Check. A little flirtatious? Check. Always willing to lend a hand? Absolutely. Kokichi isn’t afraid to let people know what he’s thinking and will always let his emotions shine through with every word and action. Despite always appearing happy, Kokichi holds his negative emotions (mostly sadness) deep in the pit of his stomach which is something he often did as a child. He doesn’t like to burden people with his problems, but he is aware that it’s unhealthy.

◆ Bɪᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜʏ: Kokichi had a standard childhood. A nice home, a loving family, and just an overall good life. Ever since he was born, Kokichi was living like any other normal child would and didn’t have a care in the world. Around the age of 5, Kokichi’s father, who was a famous adventurer, died during one of his escapades. The death hit Kokichi and his mother especially hard, and Kokichi fell into a depression at such a young age. The lively fire that was within him was suddenly extinguished and it seemed like it would be like that forever. It wasn’t until one of his uncles came for a visit that pulled him out of it. His uncle told him: ”You’ve got to be strong for your mother and you. She needs you now more than ever, you know.”

Kokichi knew that his uncle was right, but he just didn’t think he could do it. He loved his father dearly; loved the stories that he would tell him and loved the findings he would bring back from each adventure. He missed his father so much and felt like his world was just destroyed now that he was gone. At age 9, the nights of endless crying suddenly ceased. Kokichi was suddenly chipper and dragging his mother around town like he used to when he was little. His mother’s mood began to brighten after that and it did bring him a feeling of joy. Kokichi wasn’t truly over his father’s death and still felt that he couldn’t have any actually joy just yet since his father was gone, but he wanted to do this for his mother. And so, he swore he would feign this happiness for the rest of his life.

Around the age of 14 was when Kokichi felt his mask starting to slip. Honestly, he was pretty pissed at himself, but this allowed him to search for hobbies. He just wanted something that could help him keep his joyful appearance. He found a small passion for video games and would often play them with some friends. He tried sneaking a pet cat into the house, but that only worked for a couple days before his mother’s allergies gave it away. At that point, Kokichi felt he wasn’t going to find anything really enjoyable. That turned out to be wrong as he returned home one day to find his mother and uncle selling some of his father’s findings. His mother tried to explain how they needed the extra money, but Kokichi wasn’t having it. He was absolutely livid. He only managed to save a couple of his father’s items (his uncle had to hold him back from attacking the buyers) and he ran off. He had no destination in mind; he just wanted to get out of there. Who knew he would fall into an underground cavern. And who knew that cavern would lead to an ancient guild.

The Guild of the Magical Defenders didn’t take kindly to Kokichi just dropping in, but they were not completely upset. They were shocked to see him holding Daisuki’s Ring, which was one the items that Kokichi managed to keep from being sold. He told them how his father found the ring and the story his father told him on how he found the ring. Kokichi’s mask completely cracked and he cried his heart out before the strangers, proclaiming how much he missed his father and wished for him to come back and make his world right again. The members of the guild took pity on him and comforted the boy. Kokichi didn’t know how long he cried, but it felt like days. One of the members said that it was destined for Kokichi’s father to find that ring, saying that he was the next in line to become one of the Magical Defenders. It could have possibly been destined for Kokichi himself to become one instead. Kokichi refused the offer, saying that he wasn’t meant to take his father’s place in anything. He had no plans for his life, but he couldn’t bring himself to do that. The leader of the guild, a woman named Kasumi, said that she could tell that Kokichi needed this. She said that Kokichi was hurting himself and his family by just burying his feelings, and that his father would want him to take up this opportunity. Once again, Kokichi wept. As he cried, he thought of his father. He thought of the tales he told and how happy he made him and his mother. Without saying a word, he agreed to join.

The next five years was filled with vigorous training, both physical and mental. Kasumi oversaw Kokichi’s mental training and even spent time with him outside of training to help ease his mind. She became like an older sister to him. Kokichi never thought he would’ve felt actual happiness for...a long time. Yes, there were still times where he would get a little depressed, but they weren’t as bad as they used to be. Despite the help from Kasumi and the other members, he never stopped burying his emotions...but he didn’t let it get in the way of his training. Kokichi was now striving to become a great adventurer like his father, which Kasumi and his mother (though hesitantly) supported.
