The world outside the barrier was large and confusing, but bearable. His grandfather consistently needed help with it though, so Meimu had been burdened with the task of becoming a sort of expert on the technological advances the outsiders had made in their absence. Nagoro was eternally thankful for it, though Meimu did not think he really recognized the weight he'd placed upon him.

He was still small, but much was expected of him. Between being the grandson of a Village Elder and now a sort of child ambassador (because really, the future lies with children and Nagoro had told him he needed to make a good impression on the children at the Academy), he was feeling rather crushed. Still, adjustments were made. Changes in behavior were adapted. He was starting to feel that the new world left no room for one to have a core self - it was ever changing and very demanding.

So as he grew older, he clung to the few things he thought would be the easiest to stick to. His style of dress- Nagoro praised him for not giving up the more traditional garb of their people, which felt good. His favorite foods, though the wider world had similar versions with different ingredients... the "original" would always be better in his mind.

He tried, for a long time, to stick to his own way of speaking, but it seemed that most people outside of the village did not appreciate it. Then again, had any of the villagers really appreciated it, or were they too intimidated by his status to really say anything? Meimu did not know, but he didn't exactly want to know, either. Barring those few things, he'd felt he'd changed entirely from who he was as a young Kumiho - never mind that he was still young and had a ways to go before he'd be considered fully grown. He did not know how to feel about it - but there wasn't exactly anyone to talk to about it, either.
