                                              BACKGROUND
Well lessee here, how far back does one need to go to really get to know Darius Montelle? Not very far, the more important events in the guy's life have happened fairly recently, but for the sake of posterity let's go all the way back to the beginning. Born as Darius Alexander Montelle, the youngest child in a Lycan family of four. His father was a firefighter and his mother a nurse, their combined paycheck allowed them to live a comfortable life within the lower half of the middle class. Which meant that, while their every want wasn't met, their needs certainly were, but they quickly found their hands full with their two boys. Jason, Darius' elder by five years, was the boss around the house and the neighborhood, and never failed to lord his seniority over Darius and his strength over the rest of the children. He was a bully who knew how to get people to get to listen to him, just through the threat of violence, and was Darius' role model, when he wasn't shoving his face in the dirt for some arbitrary reason or another.

By the time Darius got to be around five or six, he started emulating Jason in any and every way possible. He walked with an awkward swagger, always kept his chest puffed out, and turned violent whenever it suited his fancy, only one out of the three worked; Darius wasn't just a dumb kid, he was a dumb, lycan kid, and when he threw a punch you're damn sure it hurt. Unfortunately for him, one of two things happened: the kids he lashed out against fought back (he wasn't the only lycan in the neighborhood after all), or they bitched and went to tell their parents, which resorted in the parents having a 'conversation' with Darius' parents, whiiich meant the belt was brought out. Needless to say, as a child, Darius got into his fair share of trouble, and not a week went by when he wasn't leaving his parents' room, fighting back tears as he tried to walk around like his a** didn't hurt. Jason was much tactical about his bullying, something Darius never picked up, and he hardly ever got caught.

When you live a relatively normal life, with nothing too traumatic happening to you, despite the well-known criminal activity occurring just outside your little safety bubble, you get to thinking you're invincible, that nothing bad will ever happen to you or anyone you care about. Until something does happen, the real world finally breaches your sanctuary, and you're left wondering how you could've been so ignorant. For Darius, that day came when he was eleven, just starting middle school, and his parents were killed in a car accident. Not the worst way you could go, considering how many news reports there were of people going missing, limbs being found, and mangled bodies turning up. But for a naïve Darius, it was enough to turn his, and his brother's, world upside down. Without any immediate family to take them in, the Montelle boys were sent into foster care.

Far more different than the cozy life they were used to, the foster home they were carted off to was situated in the slums, and they quickly found that they were on their own, their forest parents were too preoccupied with their own lives to ever check in on the kids constantly streaming in and out of their house, and it wasn't as if CPS was ever making any visits. This sudden transition and thrust into independence saw a change in the boys. Jason, for the most part, became more mature and came to the quick realization that violence, while definitely still necessary, was not something he ought to actively be seeking out. With Darius his only living relative, he became more protective of him and sought out ways to provide and protect the both of them; since their foster parents sure as hell weren't going to. Darius, on the other hand, focused all his attention on coping, in healthy ways at first. Losing their parents had quite the impact on him, so in the first few weeks after their death he began to see a child psychologist once a week, and his middle school's guidance counselor. His grades slipped and he became a bit of a recluse, but that was understandable given the circumstances, and his teachers worked with him to assure that he passed the sixth grade.

This lasted about a year, with Darius keeping his head down and just doing his best to make it through the day, he stuck close to Jason and did his best to stay away from his more rowdier foster siblings, which was easier to do when his older brother promised to kick in the teeth of those who even dared to look at Darius funny, and made good on that promise. But, Jason had his own problems to deal with, his own psychologist to see and school work to handle. On top of that, in an attempt to earn a bit of money, he'd joined Ghost and was peddling drugs for the gang. At seventeen most of Jason's time was split between "work" and school, so Darius was often left alone. Which made him an easier target for the kids back at the foster home.

Even with his natural strength to his advantage, it's hard to come out on top when it's 1 vs. 5, and when you haven't even hit puberty yet; Darius was a late bloomer. Still though, as a 'meek' little seventh grader he still put up one hell of a fight, and that was even before he transformed. It was exhausting, and Jason was coming home less frequently so he couldn't depend on him, so either he got tough or he got smart, and one is far easier than the other. To his credit though, Darius did plan somewhat and on some occasions he managed to target and attack his aggressors when they were alone.

In ninth grade Darius hit puberty, hard. He shot up half a foot, but still couldn't manage to surpass Jason in height, started putting on weight and began actually incorporating his, unperfected, partial transformation in the fights he got into (who would've thought to use that?). The timid phase he'd gone through was far behind him, and he was back to being the wild kid he'd used to be, now with a few more inches on him, and a social construct of image that prompted him to work out, often, and gain the sort of body most guys boasted loudly about in the presence of the fairer sex. At this point Jason had dropped out of high school and now dedicated all his time to Ghost. He'd officially aged out of the foster system, and managed to make claims on a dingy little apartment. He'd moved up in ranks, from a petty drug dealer to a supplier who also overlooked weapons deals with Crownless. He wasn't a top dog, but he was making waves and, to Darius, he was so goddamn cool; the desire to be like him only grew.

But, as much as Darius wanted to be like Jason; selling drugs, staying out late, ******** bitches, he was prevented, by Jason himself. He wasn't stupid, unlike his younger brother, and he knew that the life he was living, while fun, was wrought with danger, and one you wouldn't want your idiot brother to join. At the same time, Jason knew he couldn't bar from Darius doing as he wanted, so instead he made a deal with him: graduate high school, then join Ghost. Darius agreed. School wasn't for him, classes were hard, and at the rate he was going once he graduated college he'd have to find some blue-collar job, still in the slums, before the inevitable happened and he became the victim of some crime or another, that might claim his life or leave him wishing it had. With such a pessimistic future awaiting him, a dangerous life with fun implemented into it sounded more ideal.

So Darius coasted through high school, snatching up bits and pieces of a typical teenage good time when he could. He got into football, became a linebacker, and grew to become popular. Popularity meant he could be invited to parties, parties at unsolicited locations without parent supervision. It was fun, it was exhilarating, it was what he envisioned his life would be once he joined Ghost; only this s**t would be 24/7, 365. In his senior year he was offered a football scholarship to a few decent schools, Darius declined them, he was a proud C- student, and two days after he graduated he joined Ghost.

He moved in with Jason, who now carried the lucrative title of distributor, and worked his way up, just like his dear old bro before he got his own place, and got a taste of the life he knew was awaiting him. Partying, drinking, smoking, ******** (a lot), tagging random buildings and any unattended cars that caught his attention. Three years back, Jason was arrested on, what Darius' lovingly refers to as, 'bullshit charges' which stuck due to the police's increased interest in the gang, after a bad batch of drugs left hundreds dead in the streets; bribing judges and officers to look the other way doesn't work as well when the media and public are scrutinizing the court's every move. He got ten years, and since then Darius has been 'coping', while also keeping his head down.

Three years isn't too long, and it took him two and a half to get it through his thick skull that he had to change his habits, at least a smidge. He's wizened up, taken an interest in the business side of Ghost and has put his (hardcore) party days behind him, like a real adult. All while nursing a vendetta against Haven. His is a busy life.

                                              ABILITIES
                                              ▬ Laughing Hyena
Being a lycan, Darius was blessed with the ability of canine transformation, a Spotted Hyena to be specific, although he's only ever fully transformed a handful of times in his life. He's far more accustomed to partial transformation, changing his nails to claws, mouth to a muzzle, etc. It's handy in fights, intimidation tactics, and the occasional party trick.

                                              ▬ Nose Over Tail
Darius has heightened senses (duh), with his sense of smell coming out on top. It has more benefits than drawbacks, though one of them is that Darius cannot tolerate particularly strong smells. Perfume, cologne, bleach, etc., they all leave him covering his nose. He hasn't mastered the art of distinguishing between the races, but it's an idea that's intrigued him before.

                                              ▬ Brawn Over Brain
More street than smart book smart, Darius has always relied on his fists to see him through most of his problems. Since most of the altercations he's been involved in have been nothing more than street skirmishes, he can be overpowered by individuals with actual fighting prowess and formal training. But, he knows how to use his weight and involves some tactics into his fighting style.

                                              ▬ Memory of an Elephant
Darius is pretty decent at remembering things; details, descriptions, instructions. It's no eidetic memory, and he's certainly no Rebecca Sharrock, but he usually only needs to be told once what he needs to do, and how he needs to do it.

                                              EXTRA
                                              - A recovering party boy, it doesn't take much to convince Darius to go all out.
                                              - Does his best to keep his drug intake low, and has done nothing harder than acid and cocaine
                                              - Just because he has sexual fantasies of the opposite sex, and a few urges, doesn't mean he's gay. Or even remotely attracted to men. Because he's not. At all.
                                              - Yuno Avasaad was (is) his childhood friend, and while his brother has insisted that he's dead, Darius still looks for him, every now and then. Whenever he's struck by feelings of nostalgia, or just terribly placed hope. After all... they never found the body.
                                              - Though he's since moved out of his neighborhood, Darius still tries to visit Maluk Avasaad every now and then. He was a father figure to him in his teens, and the man's the only person from that time that isn't dead or in jail.

                                              - FC is Aomine Daiki
