β™₯ xxxKey in hand, Beatriz looked up with her rose-tinted glasses at the modern Parisian villa ahead of her. Her mind was still perplexed on how she and her friends were able to afford renting such a gigantic place for two weeks with the salaries they had five years ago. The grandness of such large places never ceased to amaze her. She personally owned total of three properties herself--a family-sized cookie cutter one story suburban home for her parents, a comfortable wooden lakeside cabin in the outskirts of Lake Tahoe that she considers her "future retirement home", and a small condominium in Los Angeles that she stays at most of the time for the sake its proximity to the recording studio she frequents. Her own size comforts involved smaller living quarters, but she can understand why her younger self was enchanted by such an extravagant place. It seemed like a good idea to buy a large place to hold grand parties where other celebrities would attend, but as she got older Beatriz realized that the party life would only distract her from the work she insistently continues to do, even now when on vacation.

After feeling as though the initial shock of the villa had stopped, Bea walked up the traditional Parisian cobblestone steps and unlocked the front door, opening it to see an even grander open view of the interior. The furniture was embellished in a classically French style, the off-white focus color bringing it all together. It seemed almost unreal that she would have to stay in such a fancy-by-appearance villa for two whole weeks and expect to not ruin it somehow by spilling pasta sauce or anything for that matter on the seemingly new furniture. She can see herself very easily being the first one to stain or break something, knowing how absent-minded she can be. Nonetheless, Beatriz walked down one of many hallways, seeking a faraway bedroom to place her suitcase. Quickly discovering how easy it was for her to get lost in such a large place, however, she settled upon simply finding an empty bedroom with a modern dusty rose, copper, gray, and white style to it. While Beatriz traditionally takes the first hour of her arrival to a new place simply putting things in an organized manner, she had other plans at the moment.

The singer took a grocery bag out of her purse and tucked herself out of the room, into the kitchen, also a glamorous space but above all fully stocked. Bea took out a skillet, placed olive oil on it, and let it heat up as she unpacked her groceries. Her intentions were to cook spaghetti originally, but after having spent the past month in Paris already due to her concert, she settled for a less common dish here--curry. While cooking, she happily recalled first learning the skill with none other than her childhood best friend Veronica, the girls making food to make fun of each others' names. Bea made macaroni and cheese while Roni made bean chili. While it was a fond memory, recent situations have caused Beatriz to lurch forward in a state of nervousness. It will be the first time she will be seeing Veronica since their argument, and this isn't going to be one that she can easily make up for with a simple greeting dish and a smile. She was ready for the slander, the anger, the possible fists flying in the air. She was perhaps ready for everything except for how to respond when Veronica walks through the front door.

To distract herself while cooking, Beatriz put on an audiobook reading of the play A Midsummer Nights Dream. While she already had one music album done and not yet released, she was preparing for her next one to be written, and the inspiration for it will be her favorite Shakespeare play. Acting was never quite her scene--even though she had begun entertaining the thought as of late--but she did take up a minor role in her high school production of the play as Peaseblossom, a fairy servant of Titania who had a singing and dancing role, making Bea the perfect candidate. As of now, she had just gone through her second read-through since planning her next album, and she was ready for a third. Despite being seen as a simple-minded, pretty diva in most circles of media, she was very studious about how she makes her music, going to far as to learn various instruments to further understand how she can use them to add depth to her music. Her work was her life. Even now while listening to the play, she was testing several tunes to see if the play could help influence her lyrics better.

While cooking the curry, Bea also turned on a rice cooker and placed in enough for what she assumes to still be eight people. She took time to carefully season the curry to a liking where it could be personally seasoned by each of her friends to their liking. There was a subtly sweet taste to it, but there was spicy curry seasoning ready to be added onto an individual plate at a moment's notice. Personally, Bea preferred her foods spicy, always making sure she had a small stock of Tapatio or Tajin at hand. A part of her was enjoying the peculiar ambience of the Shakespearean words echoing across silent halls with nothing but the sound of simmering food and a wooden spatula scraping the bottom of the skillet added to the situation. It was enough to get her creative flow going, humming a new tune she would expect a mother to sing while perhaps telling her child a fairy tale.

β™₯ xxxSeemingly uninterrupted, the singer's gentle hums slowly evolved into small melodic lyrics under her breath. "My darling was spirited away, my darling I got nothing to say...no-nononono. Um...Baby got spirited away, but I got nothing, nothing to say. I just hope, you, come find your way back, back to me, back to us, back to our lo-o-o-ove...eh..." Lyric by lyric, Beatriz focused on critiquing her diction, the nearly cooked food creating a flavorful aroma she couldn't help be entranced by. Her mind was so concentrated on her mess of a song and the delightful smell of curry, she didn't realize she had a nervous audience of one awaiting in the corner to be recognized.

Thomas could have gone quietly unnoticed by Beatriz for perhaps hours, for even though she may had seen his silhouette while cooking, her tunnel vision focus on her minds didn't allow her to mentally compute his presence. She easily justified the sensation of not being alone as her mind mentally forming the fantasies being spoken aloud from the audiobook.

"Hey, Bea!" Her heart almost stopped at the sudden intrusion of her fantasies by the familiar yet more formal voice of an old friend, Benjamin. She quickly looked up from the simmering pan of curry and waved, giving a sleeping sounding "hey" as she made eye contact with him. "Mi and I just got here, and we wanted to say hi before we dropped off our stuff upstairs. Let me know if you needed help with anything?" She gave a quick thumbs up before the man quickly ducked out, Michael popping in next.

"Hey Tom, hey Bea," With this, Bea's eyes fluttered curiously in confusion before looking into the corner to see none other than her high school crush nervously tucked away. Her face quickly showed her obvious reaction of embarrassment, still giving a small wave in Michael's direction as she couldn't quite focus on the rest of his words before he left with less of a rush than Benjamin. She attempted to compose herself quickly, trying to not seem like someone who had just seen their high school crush who probably witnessed her do something embarrassing like make weird faces at herself in her supposed "alone time". Nonetheless while she was singing a love song. She was practically infamous for not singing traditional love songs, save for exactly two that revolved around her old feelings for none other than the man standing before her.

"Good seeing you again Tom. I didn't know you took on a second job as a ninja. I mean, I know you authors don't exactly get paid bank, but still, that stealth, though." As per usual, Beatriz's attempts to look composed revolved around making a small but friendly joke. After chuckling a bit to herself, she smiled at Thomas, reminiscing on how much, and yet, how little he changed. She went from smiling to him to turning back to the curry. "Food's almost done. I figured everyone would be hungry, and airplane food has been the butt of jokes since the Wright brothers. It'll be done in just a bit...oh! And no worries, it's seasoned on the sweet side," She interjected her own thoughts, vaguely remembering his distaste for spice.

After just a moment passed, Kylan was next to come in, and Beatriz was sure to notice this time. "Tom? Beatriz?" His surprised tone caused the singer to giggle. He had certainly also changed, but he still had a familiar voice that felt comfortable to hear again. "Wow, long time! How's it going?"

"Hey Kylan! It's bit...a bit of time. Just a smidge,"
She said, still smiling. It had definitely been more than a smidge of time since she had seen him. Last she saw him was at his wedding. Unfortunately, she had yet to see Nevaeh outside of pictures. She secretly hoped to finally meet the little girl during this trip, but it seemed unlikely seeing Kylan come in alone.

"Mmm, is that Bea's curry I smell?" Andres' voice came to Bea's attention as he came into the kitchen quickly after Kylan. 'These boys sure do come in raids,' she thought to herself, noticing they were all quickly first to arrive. None of the other girls were in sight yet, much to the singer's relief for now. for now she grinned and waved at her fellow Latino.

"Hey, so what's up? Been a while, huh? What did I miss? Is anyone else here already?" Andy's tone seemed innocent, but being in a similar situation as him with attempting to avoid the inevitable, she could sense what he was indicating.

"It's all good here, Andy. It's just us here. Mi and Ben are unpacking, but the girls have yet to arrive," She swallowed her words, looking back down to the curry. Her and Roni's current dispute made it on live television, making Bea uneasy about the idea of someone bringing it up. It wouldn't surprise her had they already known, and if they did she was ready for looks of disappointment. However, for now the guys all had their own thoughts and anxiety. After all, they haven't been altogether as a group in ages. She was sure the others had their own unsettled situations.

"Oh! And the curry is...done!" She said, quickly sampling in between words to make sure it had been thoroughly cooked. She turned off the electric stove and moved the pan full of curry onto a cool part of the stove, the rice already done steaming in the cooker. Beatriz quickly placed other seasonings on the counter for other people to specially season their own plates.

β™₯ xxxGiving a soft nudge to Andy as a playful 'thank you' for helping her pull out the seasonings from the cabinets, the singer quickly turned her face in the direction of Thomas and Kylan. Whether she had intended to or not, Beatriz first focused on Tom's face, only for her immature old flame of emotions to be swiftly shot down.

"...I.. I'm not really hungry, s-sorry, Bea." Thud. A strange emotion of sorrow filled her. She quickly brushed it off as her disappointment that food might go wasted--a bad pet peeve developed from years of living in poverty--but a part of her knew it perhaps had to do with another person in their company. Either way, Bea recovered from the little blow with eloquent grace.

"Don't worry about it, I can always pack leftovers in the fridge...I think," She giggled at the end, uncertain of whether they had containers for leftovers in the kitchen. Her mind attempted to distract itself with a new train of thought--plastic containers.

"I should go unpack, too." And with that, the man of high school Bea's dreams tucked himself out of the room, much like a shy artist after an open mic night performance. She couldn't help but smirk to herself in amazement. How was it that she harbored a crush on someone like him in high school when he was a polar opposite compared to her, their only similarities drawing at their creativity.

Just as he had left, however, softer voices echoed in the distant hallway, undoubtedly feminine. One of them was undeniably one belonging to her old best friend. The artist stiffened, still uncertain on how the next few minutes will play out.

"Er.. I see the girls have arrived..."

'Oh poor Andy,' Bea bit her lip, nodding her head in agreement to the obvious. She fondly remembered the relationship between him and Ember, but like everyone else she remembered the bitter breakup that followed. She never chose a side, and even if her own personal life choices would hint that she would have sided with Em, the fact remained that Bea never would have gone through a romantic relationship with someone who would prefer settling with a small town lifestyle, not wanting to break her own and someone else's heart when she would have ultimately left to pursue her dreams. She didn't need that kind of karma in her life.

"That is, I think I should go up and call Ben and Mi to let them know the food is ready." Bea waved at Andy as he quickly departed, wording 'GOOD LUCK' despite the fact that he couldn't see, too busy attempting to act incognito. And with that, it was simply Kylan and Bea. Being the gentleman that he was, Kylan took the opportunity to clear the air by coincidentally clearing his throat.

"Was it something I said?" Beatriz laughed whole-heartedly and without filter as Kylan simply shrugged and started to scavenge through the cabinets. "It smells fabulous, Bea."

"Aww, thank you. You flatter me," She proclaimed, the echoes of her laughter still voice. She had seen he managed to find something she had yet to--plates! How could she be so distracted as to forget about plates.

"Just the thing I think we’ll all need after the flights over here. Mine alone was almost thirteen hours, but… well. I hope it’ll be well worth it.” Bea's smile stayed strong, but she nodded in agreement. Going through her friends in her memories person by person, she knew it wouldn't be cheap for some of them. Heck, if she wasn't already touring here and had been able to stay in a hotel courtesy of the tour sponsors, she definitely would have had to pull out of her savings. Not to mention the need to call into work, close down shops, finding a babysitter on Kylan's part. Bea had it easy compared too her friends. Heck, she would have offered to pay for most of them if she didn't remember how independent they all acted. Besides, it wasn't her place. Not anymore, at least, since she went practically ghost on them for quite some time.

Bea was at least happy that her friends were still the same as always--to an extent. Kylan's positive vibes were great company for her, enough to distract her from the hallway echoes of a haunting burden that was hers and Roni's alone to bear. Bea stepped aside from the stove, admiring the plates as Kylan served himself.

"Is this what we’re going to be treated to over the next two weeks? Honestly, Bea, I think I’ll go home fat if it is. Though, I have to wonder what Vae will think of a soft Daddy," Kylan's humor never ceased to amuse the music artist as she began to laugh all over again.

"They say the dad belly is 'in'," she added with a hint of her own confusion. She didn't bother too much with romance articles, but for some reason they persist to shadow her e-mails and Snapchat until finally Bea gives in to read them.

"I would love to cook for you all, seriously, because cooking for myself all the time has been lame, but I think I'll leave it to the people who are being paid to stay here for now." The last thing Beatriz wanted to do was leave the chef hired to help the place go out of a salary for the next two weeks, and while she will be as courteous to them as possible, they are paid to cook.

Bea glanced at the plates again, momentarily contemplating serving herself before quickly shutting down the idea. After all, it's an informal rule that the chef always eats last. For now, she settled with searching through the fridge and grabbing a wine cooler. 'Viva le France' she amused herself, grabbing a few wine glasses and pouring one for herself, offering some to Kylan as he spoke.

"It's been since my wedding, hasn't it? Since we last saw each other I mean?" When he looked up, she nodded softly.

"Yep, never seen a man as dashing in a tux ever since," she teased, careful to not discuss the ex he had the misfortune of experiencing.

"I've heard about you in the news and all, but that really doesn't give a good sense of you. What have you been up to?" Oh my, what a loaded question. Before thinking about answering, Bea quickly drank a sip of the chilled Cabernet Sauvignon.

"Welp, outside of my career, nowadays everything you do, the media covers. Just last week, they made several articles about how I dared to wear clothes from a British fashion designer into the Paris airport as a symbol of 'rebellious thinking'. I just wore it because it was comfy, cozy, and courtesy of my mom who packed my bags," she joked at her own situation, sighing softly at the ludicrous acts of paparazzi press. "But genuinely, I've just been really busy with my career and community service endeavors. Let's see...I just finished my world tour last week, a new album is coming out next week, I'm currently working on a new one. I'm salty that Game of Thrones asked Ed Sheeran to show up on the season premiere instead of me, but aside from that it's all Gucci."

Bea didn't want to talk an earful off of Kylan, so she kept her life update brief. After all, she was an artist. She has to talk about herself all the time, and after so many morning shows and radio special interviews, it sounds like the same repeated rubbish. She took another small sip before giving a small shrug and smiling cheekily towards Kylan.

"But I actually want to hear about you. I want baby pictures, high school teacher stories, the hole nine yards of The Life of Kylan York," creating an invisible star wipe with an extended arm and a glass of wine, Be quickly turned her attention back from her joke to her friend. "Tell me about Nevaeh. I haven't seen her yet, but I've seen pictures and she's so cute."
