█ BACKGROUND
Malik Wes Porter was born to a couple that was too young to have any business having children. His father was a human named Jakob Porter, and his mother was a shapeshifter woman named Yuna Patel. Jakob came from a troubled family and was little more than a street urchin that caused more trouble than he was ever worth. Yuna was a well behaved girl from a hard working lower middle class family, her parents had worked endlessly to provide a life of promise for her. Yuna was expected to go to off to receive a higher education, and to learn a trade that would better her life exponentially. In this case, those expectations had come crashing down.
At age sixteen Yuna became pregnant after one of those typical teenage phases of experimentation and rebellion, and seventeen year old Jakob was the one responsible. So it was that Yuna was to be a mother, Jakob a father, and the expectations of college to be put off indefinitely. Yuna's parents, while displeased with her poor choices, went above and beyond to help with this new predicament. With patience and grace they resolved that if their daughter would not be going to college, then her soon-to-be-husband would have to learn the family trade. Jakob learned how to be a butcher from Yuna's father, it was a long road of trial and error due to Jakob being a human learning a trade that had been perfected by generations of shapeshifters.
Things weren't perfect, but for a while they were good. The young couple had their new born son, who took after his mother and was a shapeshifter. They started living in the one bedroom apartment over the butcher shop, and they were living as close to perfect lives as humanely possible. That is until the troubled past of Jakob caught up with him, and he mysteriously went missing after some sketchy people were looking to collect on long over due debts. Troubles from those same experimental teen years that landed Yuna and Jakob with a son in the first place, left Yuna a single mother and Wes fatherless. Without Jakob, and without closure as to where he went or if he was dead or not, Wes' mother fell into a dark place that Wes' grandparents thought would be best she didn't take Wes with her. So it was, Wes was adopted by his grandparents when he was four years old and his mother was sent off to school for the education that had been delayed.
Grandma and Granddad; Mammy and Pops; In short the nicest people to have ever existed.
There are some couples that will forever be emblazoned into the minds of friends and family as the perfect match. Pairs that will stand the test of time in the face of it all; A standard for all others to follow, for anything less would be an insult to a person's self worth. In Wes' mind his Mammy and Pops were, and would always be the example of just that. They married young, they raised a daughter, ran their business, and took life one day at a time even when things were bad and they smiled through life and kept their heads up and kindness in their heart.
Being raised by his grandparents wasn't bad, not in the slightest, in fact it was probably the best thing that could have happened to Wes as a child. They hurt for money more than some people, but Wes never lacked the important things in life. Food, water, love, and everything else that was needed in life. From day one he was raised behind the counter of the family butcher shop, The Meat Hook, learning how to be a proper shapeshifter butcher.
Fast forward to when Wes is nineteen.
A new batch of shady people start hanging around The Meat Hook, but this time they weren't here to collect on debts accrued through bad behavior on anyone's part. They wanted to make new a new illegal business arrangement with Mammy and pops that involved butchers of a darker nature. At first these people were ignored, Wes was specifically told not to interact with any of those that were lingering around and at first he listened. Wes was a well behaved child who did what he was told, so naturally he kept his distance.
He kept his distance until his Mammy "fell" in the alley beside the meat hook and ended up with several broken bones and a concussion. His grandparents were in their early fifties at this point in his life, but they were still far to old in Wes' mind to deal with that level of intimidation and blackmail from the Blood Nation. So, he did the only thing he could to keep his grandparents safe from the shady thugs that had been lingering around the shop, he went to the Blood nation and posed a deal.
Wes would become one of their chop shop butchers willingly, if they stayed the hell away from The Meat Hook. His grandparents were far from pleased with this choice, but at least they would be able to carry on without being beaten by thugs.
Fast forward to Wes being shackled up in enchanted cuffs, being read his rights after a body was found in the trunk of his car on the way to the newest chop shop location. It was a normal stop, a broken tail light or some such nonsense that ended with the police officer noticing blood dripping from the trunk. Some Blood nation member decided for once in their life to kill someone, and NOT drain the blood from their body, and so there was this mess in Wes' trunk and now he was the one getting pinned down for the time. Since there was no evidence of Wes being the one that killed the unknown person, other than them happening to be in the trunk of the car that he was drive, they couldn't charge him with murder. Improper disposal of a body? That was fair game.
At least the Blood Nation decided he was worth while enough to maintain their "Partnership" and sprung for a decedent lawyer that talked down the maximum of five years to two years with the chance of release with good behavior.
█ ABILITIES
▬ LIMB MANIPULATION
As a shape shifter, Wes is able to manipulate the form of his body parts however he desires. Small scale shifting of body parts such as hands or feet is the easiest and takes little to no effort form Wes to preform; even less if the shifting is to an object rather than a biological change. The bigger the shift to his body the more concentration and energy it will consume; a full shift of both his arms from hand to shoulder will consume more energy than a shift of just his hands. That being said an inorganic shift takes less energy than a biological shift. Inorganic/Object shifts take a lot less information intake and experience/attempts to complete successfully, while biological shifts require studying, research, and practice to successfully accomplish on even the smallest scale.
▬ BUTCHER BOY
Due to the nature of his family's business Wes has become exceptionally skilled at shifting his limbs (particularly his arms) into tools of the butcher trade. Meat cleavers, bone saws, skinning knives, boning knives, tenderizer mallets, meat grinders, and anything other kind of tool that a butcher may need, Wes has learned how to shift his hands or arms into them with great ease. These particular shifts take less energy because of the constant practice he has had using them in his life time. Using his body as his tools means Wes doesn't have to replace or maintain an upkeep on a physical set of tools; there is the downfall that Wes has to do a lot of clean up after he works from the mes afterwards.
▬ INANIMATE ADAPTATION
All shapeshifters can manipulate their body to change shape in a multitude of fashions, and for all shapeshifters the ability to shift into inanimate objects is far easier than biological shifts. In Wes' case he has a natural knack for shifting into new inanimate objects with considerably less practice or analyzing to achieve a correct shift.
▬ SHIFTED LIMB DURABILITY
When Wes shifts his limbs into inorganic objects, such as a cleaver, that limb is more durable than it would be if it was just his arm. The change in the constitution of his limb to make a metal cleaver makes it more resistant to damage; but it is far from immune to the damage.
