Prefects are expected to show leadership and assist the younger students of the school. As a prefect, you may reward or deduct house points (but not from another prefect) and may also choose to issue detentions to rule-breaking students. Detentions are to be taken with the individuals Head of House. But as a perk, you are now admitted access to the Prefects Bath. One of the many responsibilities as a prefect are to lead your housemates (and especially first years) to your common room and inform them of the password for the year.
