Dire's Name: Éponine
Nature: Scavenger
Entry: "Ooh...this is perfect!"

A tug, a small rip, and a satisfied yet muffled chuckle later found Éponine standing in front of a mostly shattered mirror, her newest prize held between her teeth. With a toss of her head and a few rolls of her shoulders she managed to settle the red fabric over her back, and she turned this way and that to admire her reflection. Her eyes were particularly drawn to the gemstone that fastened the cloth on her chest, which she puffed out a bit to let the dim light in the run-down building catch the pink surface.

"Now ain't that fancy?" she murmured to herself before glancing up at her reflection once again. The look really was complete now, wasn't it? A regal robe, a beautiful bracelet, and a crown to top it all off. She lowered her head just a bit to give her reflection a rather sultry expression before snickering to herself. Oh, she was going places now!

"Who could possibly resist this?" she asked herself, turning in a slow circle her tail swishing back and forth beneath her new cape. "If this don't demand respect I dunno what will!"

The cape really was the finishing touch to her ensemble and Éponine couldn't believe her luck. This run down building was the last place she had expected to find the finishing touch, but lo and behold, here it was. There must have been someone smiling down on her today to find such a treasure. Her other smaller yet shinier possessions had come to her in a similar fashion, although she had had them for far longer. The crown she had found as a young wolf and had originally worn it as a bracelet, liking how it looked on her paw rather than on her head. It had been her first real successful hunt where she hadn't traded her finds away, keeping something nice for herself. Unfortunately as she grew the crown did not, and soon her bracelet was far too small for her. Éponine had decided not to trade away her most precious possession, so she began to wear it as it was meant to be worn.

It was a year or so later when she found the artistically twisted wire in an old dump. As an adult she now made her living off of finding strange, wonderful things and trading them to other wolves for things like food. She wasn't the best of hunters and lived mostly off scraps of what she could find from other kills long since abandoned, but it was amazing what some wolves would offer to bring her for a pretty gem or a nice bit of cloth. Some treasures, though, she just couldn't pass up.

And now she had her third treasure, this cape with the gem to hold it shut. She really was a sight to see and she knew that her trinkets and cloak could certainly prove to other wolves of her scavenging prowess. She was smaller than the average wolf and could slip into the long abandoned buildings, not afraid of collapsing floors or anything else said to haunt the old man dwellings. Her new apparel would certainly advertise her skills to others and hopefully she might be able to convince some potential traders to pay her with a fresh kill up front before going off to find them something nice.

"'ponine, gal, you done good," she said to her reflection once more, a coy grin on her muzzle. "Time t'get goin', see what else we can find in here." She did have to bring her current meal provider something to wear as well, or else she'd be out of a meal. She got back to work, nosing about to find another bit of cloth. One that wasn't quite as magnificent as her own, of course. She'd just have to remember to take it off before bringing the worse of the two to the wolf waiting on her return.

Anything We Need To Know? While her name is directly taken from the character Éponine in Les Miserables, her personality and nature are that of Éponine's parents, the Thénardiers'.

Username: Yushika
Dire's Name: Anastascia
Nature: Prideful
Entry: Anastascia enjoyed poking about at ancient, forgotten lands. Her mouth curled into a faint grin as she trotted up broken stairs, nails faintly clicking against stone. Whatever this large building had once belonged to, it was long gone, left in a decaying rubble. The roof had caved, the walls were crumbling, and even the stairs threatened to break under curious paws, but Ana kept going. While she never would know it, nor could she understand it, the building she was currently traversing through once belonged to man, long before the fallout; it had been a theater. Lost in time, it remained unexplored until Ana had discovered the building a few days prior. Now, the treasure inside waited, and Ana intended to leave the building with something new.

'Click click click'.

Her nails echoed, warning rodents of her arrival. They scurried, squeaking and squawking under and around her paws. She ignored them, ears perked and tail swishing behind her as she climbed the last of the stairs. Pausing to catch her breath, a paw raised in the air as her nose wiggled, gathering the scent of the building around her. Alone. Good; she didn't need other wolves intruding.

The thing was; Ana hadn't just come here to check out the scene. No, she had a mission, one that stayed in the forefront of her brain as her eyes swiveled to view open doors that led to dark rooms. Ana was - in her own regretful words - plain, something she struggled to clasp her teeth around. She had met plenty a colorful wolf, and even more who adorn beautiful accessories, but Ana? Well, it was an understatement to say she hadn't been lucky in that field; Ana had never seen anything to adorn herself with during her lifetime. Somehow, other wolves got to the treasure before she. Sure, there were lost cloths, broken jewels, and more, but they weren't beautiful - and Ana wasn't going to place anything lackluster upon her body. Her yellow fur was a canvas, and she fully intended to make the most of it.

That was why she was here, and it led her up those stairs without concern. The young wolf wagged her tail, mouth prying apart as her tongue ran over her lips. It was right there, she could almost taste it! Her long awaited treasure was just behind one of these doors! Any of them!

She just had to go looking!

Shaking herself off, the wolf bounded into the nearest room. Lucky for her, it was the prop room, and various broken down and decaying boxes laid throughout the floor, props scattered. Ana wasted no time, releasing a delighted yip as she charged towards a box and began digging. Broken cups.... tattered paper.... shattered plastic jewels; was this it? Disappointment crossed her features as she pushed herself from the box, a scuff escaping the disheartened wolf as she padded to another box. No, just more trash. The next one, maybe? No, trash. How about.... no.... also trash....

Each box was explored, muzzle shoved in with reckless abandon as she nosed around, pitiful whines leaving her throat with every useless box until there were no more to explore. Nothing; not even a bracelet. Head snapping back, her ears folded against her head. No worries, maybe... a different room would hold what she sough-

Wait.

Her eyes caught something golden in the corner of the room, almost hidden by a metal box. It wasn't like the others, instead resembling more of a treasure chest. Slowly, Ana approached, as if speed alone was what had done her wrong earlier. With each step she found her chest tightening, apprehension riddled through her system. Finally, her paw hit the chest, a dull 'thump' echoing throughout the room.

This was it, she felt it.

First, she checked behind the box, ears swiveling forward as she pulled out a..... was this..... a crown?! Her entire system vibrated, teeth clamping around the cheap metal firmly. It was! It was a crown, and it was all hers! Immediately she set it on the floor, lowering her head to nudge the crown on-top of her nose and then, with one fluid motion, she flipped it onto her head.

Beautiful; she was stunning!

Already, her head held higher, legs elongating as she struck a pose for an audience that didn't exist. Twirling in a circle, she halted before the chest, lowering her head (carefully, to not disturb her new prize) she latched her teeth on the clasp of the chest and yanked it open. Within laid a cloth with a pretty pink jewel in the middle. On went the cloth, and another pose was struck. That was not it, though, as what laid under the cloth was a sparkling bracelet all of her own. Delicately, she pawed at it until it slid onto her legs. Wonderful, perfect, gorgeous! Her lips pulled back as she grinned at her leg, twisting it side to side to view it.

This was what she had awaited for so long! She was at last beautiful. The best of the best. No one could triumph over her treasure; no one was an equal in her eyes! She was a queen now, and she'd show them all the beauty she now held! Ana released a final excited yip before she bolted out of the room and down the stairs, heading for the nearest wolf she could find. It was time to be noticed, finally!

Anything We Need To Know? She goes by Ana mostly, as her full name is a bit of a mouthful!

Dire's Name: Nahia
Nature: Envious
Entry:

The pack adored her.

Completely and utterly.

She was kind and sweet and beautiful.

There was no wrong that she could do, no problem her smile could not fix. Her howl was a song, her voice was a balm. The mere gentle touch of her nose was enough to brighten any day.

They sought out gifts, traveled far and wide to find the most precious of items that they deemed worthy of her. A beautiful cloth to drape across her back, carried carefully for days and nights from ruins in a frozen wasteland. An anklet to wear around her leg, to shine among her lovely fur. The crown to sit upon her head so that all who looked upon her would know at a glance how special she was.

She was perfect.

And Nahia hated her.

She was full with it; little black envious worms that buried into her heart and started gnawing at the core. It wasn’t fair. Why was she so special? They were from the same litter. Surely her sister was not so great, not so wonderful. They loved her so much, but what of Nahia? Nobody cared about the younger one, the plain one.

Jealousy in her gut, heavy and burning.

It consumed her day by day.

If she had those pretty gifts, Nahia thought, she would be just as lovely as her sister. If only they would treat her just as kindly, showed her as much love. That was all she needed.

“Come and visit the meadow with me?” Nahia called to her sister.

Her hatred consumed her, insidious and ugly, demanding.

You deserve this.

Teeth around a fluttering throat, clamping down until the struggles subsided.

In the aftermath Nahia sat back and shivered with the realization of what she had done. There was no going back. Not now. The pack would tear her apart for her crime. She picked up her crown and her anklet and her cloak. She struggled to put them on by herself, had to balance awkwardly, paws and teeth used in unfamiliar ways.

But then she was adorned with her gifts, the ones she had earned.

That day Nahia ran, she ran very, very far and she never looked back.

Dire's Name: Strongbrow
Nature: Imaginative
Entry:

When she closed her eyes, she could remember, ever so faintly, a voice say, They are a sign of our lineage. Our countenance is bold and earnest, that all would know our thoughts before we speak. A secret is too deadly to keep here. A Strongbrow's face is an honest one; be worthy of it.

She could feel the weight on her face almost, these Strong Brows. Just as she could feel the weight of her crown and cloak. They spoke of royalty, of tales spun while wrapped in the warmth of the huddled pack. But there she was, alone and cold, something metal between her teeth, running for her life as someone barked an insult behind her.

"Get back here, you rat-faced whelp! You clawless coward! Nobody steals from--" The words got lost in a snarl.

(She couldn't help it. It had been a mindless action, picking up the item and moving, as if she had been born doing it. No amount of sincere apologies would fix the sudden rift she had caused so, well, she decided to keep the bracelet for her trouble.)

Cloak billowing behind her, she reached the western branch of The Crosses at a breathless pace. She had been fine, just fine, until the water had gotten past her paws--

She stops suddenly. The attentive stray pup sharing her bed for the night cocks his head and peeks from his nest in her cloak. The she-wolf seems frozen in time, eyes distant, fur bristling ever so slightly. Curious, he prods her leg with a paw.

I'm sorry, she says, growing soft. I lost myself.

The river, he prompts.

Yes, that. I flew over it in a single bound, you know. She grins at his dubious look.

But it's so big! No-one can.

No-one? She waggles her Strong Brows and stretches her leg out so the pup can oggle her bracelet. Don't you believe me?

Neither of them had eaten well, but the pup had gotten the lion's share. It was her duty to let him, she thought: he was so young and had nothing else. Her own journey had been frightfully isolated; the least she could offer was a sharing of meal and den. Most important, though, was the story: she felt imagination was important to nurture in this cold world.

After all, her story had been fabricated.

She had no idea how she had come by her items, only that they had been with her for as long as she could remember. It had been the stories she told herself about them that let her keep moving forward, along with that quiet, nameless voice.
(A Strongbrow's face is an honest one; be worthy of it.) That hadn't been made up, she was sure of it. But it was these little kindnesses called stories that let them live interesting lives. the least she could do was inspire it in others.

Anything We Need To Know? Essentially, Strongbrow was brought across the Slipstream by a member of her former pack (possibly a parent) to avoid the massacre from the rival pack (whose attack had been triggered because someone had stolen from them one too many times). She doesn't recollect her puphood much but is deathly afraid of water even without knowing the reason why. Her former pack, despite her beliefs otherwise, were a band of rather lofty scavengers whose hierarchy was based on who had the most "shinies," although given her items, she would have held a high rank regardless. The idea of a thief-born pup turning into something quite the opposite tickles me, as well as the idea that the colored brows are a "famous trait"~

Also: Strongbrow is the family name rather than her actual name, but she doesn't remember that part either. She'd want any pups of hers to keep that name moving forward as a last name/family name of sorts.
