He crept a little bit closer to the water's edge, trying to feel the texture of the magic as it condensed in the air or froze over the surface of the water, probing for some underlying commonality that would help him figure out what it was.
The way it moved made him wonder, and on impulse he rummaged around in his bag to pull out a granola bar that had been sitting uneaten at the bottom for the past week. Unwrapping it, he broke off a chunk of the cranberry almond snack and tossed it into the water.
