Back home fourteen was considered almost-grown. You could get married in two years, start a family, own property. Lots of girls already knew who they were going to end up with but that hadn't felt like Cami Ryland's destiny. She'd always looked up towards the stars and known there was just so much more. It wasn't like she didn't know that you could travel through space on a ship. It was just that she hadn't done that before.

But now she was on a ship for the very first time, with the blackness of space and the bright points of stars just out the oblong window in her room, and she could barely contain her excitement. This was evident in the way she was harassing the crew of the small ship, asking them a million questions. One of the most interesting members was a blonde woman who had pretty eyes and made the teenager's stomach turn in flips. "So what do you do around here?"

Maebe was the most glamorous thing that the poor girl had ever seen in her life. It was all that jewelry that the captain had scoffed and scorned that lured the teenager over to this most unsuitable lady. This was precisely what she hoped to become in a few years. Perhaps not so out on the fringes of civilization in a transport ship but definitely gorgeous, glamorous, covered in jangling chains and looking for all the world like a day in space was nothing but another boring day.

The glass beads in the girl's hair knocked together as she shrugged. "Both, I think. I mean it's hard to be bored when you're out in the stars but it's still not a very big ship. And I've met almost everyone else!" Truthfully she'd been a bit too shy to come near the blonde any sooner but close quarters had eventually banished nerves enough to give her gumption enough to say hi.

"You're not like all the others. So you have to do something special."
