Mistsorrow had been traveling with Princess Luna for a few weeks now, and the stallion could hardly remember a time of his life when he had been so happy. He had no more nightmares now--now, when he found his hooves tracing once again the cursed corridors of the Kuze Manor, the princess was there to escort him out. She never seemed to see any danger at all--the handmaidens would not approach her, and neither would the ghosts. When he dreamed of the Chaos Bringer, she braved the antibodies for him. He was safe. He didn't know if it was supernatural or if it was merely the power of suggestion, but Mist did not care--he was safe, he was happy, and the nightmares were gone. He didn't ask the Princess if she had been in his dreams--it would be rude, would it not?--for he did not want her appearances to end.
Even better, he had someone to talk to--and someone to tell him new stories. His instincts had been right--Luna came from a culture as rich as his parents' cultures, with a long and complex history. Mist was enthralled whenever he heard it.
If there was such a thing as fate, then it had been kind to him, the lost star--the lost pony--that it had been so unkind to for all these years, for it had brought him into the service of the Princess of the Night. She was everything Mist could possibly look up to, which was probably a problem, since Mist was also realizing that he was definitely in love with her.
Mist looked up at the moon, a beautiful waxing crescent. It was mid-autumn. Leaves had been falling from trees, and chill breezes blew through the emptying branches.
"In this world, there are many who celebrate this night," he murmured. "Some believe it to be a night of gateways, my princess, and others believe it to be a time when the barriers are thin. How do thy subjects in Equestria celebrate this night?" He wanted to hear her voice--and about her world--again, and this subject seemed as good a one as any.

It had been not to long since she'd found this stallion plauged by nightmares, though as the nights went on his nightmares abated and he became more cheerful. He Stayed by her side the entire time. Mistsorrow was enthralled by the stories she told of home. She was glad to have someone listen to her though she missed her home. Luna wondered how her sister fared, regretting leaving Celestia with all the work once again. Was she taking care of tibbles properly?
Though today was indeed a wonderful night the most wonderful of nights judging from the brisk wind and falling leaves, the position of the moon it was nightmare night. Luna smiled to herself remembering back then her first was the most memorable, she'd almost cancelled it entirely from a misunderstanding if one could call it that. She had initially it was a celebration of what she had been when she'd been consumed by her own darkness. Many of the children had run from her and the ponies had still feared her, it had not been pleasant at first. With the help of Twilight and her friends she'd come to understand many things that night.
Princess Luna's attention shifted to Mistsorrow and she raised her brow "Truly Mistsorrow Other's celebrate this night?" There were those here who celebrate nightmare night too? but he seemed more interested in her world. which she wasn't entirely displeased about was was all too happy to talk about equestria.
"Dost thou remember the story we told you a few weeks hence?" The mare asked before continuing "Equestria's festival is called Nightmare night it's a festival celebrating the night and of my darker self." she explained "It began after our sister banished us. We are not sure how it started as we were banished." she paused contemplating for a moment, she had never actually asked her sister who had started nightmare night. Luna continued to walk and continued on "Nightmare Night's was the evening many ponies thought we were able to roam this night so they would offer to us candy and disguise themselves." she paused once again to let Mistsorrow absorb some of the information. her nebulous mane continued moved on it's own "We had been banished for a thousand years and when we return we were not quite sure what the night celebration meant; we were happy it was held, we decided to grace the festival with our presence." she smiled at her companion as she continued explaining what happened during the first nightmare night since her return.
Nightmare Moon wasn't having an easy time, she'd come to realise many of her powers had deserted her. And she had yet to see the moon princess who had rejected her offer. Luna would come around, after all Nightmare was still part of her and nightmare knew all Luna's darkest secrets and insecurities. Nightmare laughed wickedly as she continued on hoof. She was certainly not in equestria anymore not a single thing was familiar here. Nightmare's ears picked up a faint but very familiar voice.
"Well, well..." she grinned showing her sharp fangs her voice echoed through the darkness. this world was being kind to her this night! Nightmare began moving to intercept Luna. Curious though who did that little scared princess find to keep her company? Nightmare's own nebulous mane moved to avoid hitting anything as the shadow mare slipped through the dark woods.
"My dear luna!" she said emerging from the darkness with a wicked gleam in her draconic eyes "Have you reconsidered my offer yet?" she glanced and Mistsorrow looking down upon him as though he was insignificant. though he seemed to have an evil energy she could sense curious "You replaced me did you my dear luna?" she said mockingly.

Mistsorrow listened closely to her description and chuckled a little. "Thy darker self could be bought with sweets, my princess?" If it had been Sandstrife, he would have bumped her shoulder playfully. The image in his head, of the princess, fierce, proud, her mane and tail whipping around her as if she were in a tempest, her rage finally sated by a honeycomb or somesuch, was a very amusing image indeed. He wanted to giggle like a small child at it, especially when he imagined an imperious look on her face as she ate the candy. Oh, it was a wonderful mental image. He loved it immediately. "I suppose I shall have to remember that should I displease thee, your highness."
Before he could say anything else, a dark shadow moved up ahead. He blinked as a dark stranger stepped out of the darkness. She was an "alicorn" like the princess was, with the same markings, the same "cutie mark," and eerily similar mane and tail. It was the eyes, though...the eyes were very similar. The only difference was this new mare's eyes were slit-pupiled like a snake's, while his princess had round pupils.
They seemed to know each other, but Mist didn't pay any attention to the stranger's barbs. He was too busy thinking about her appearance and what Luna had said. Her darker side...what if she wasn't being metaphorical about that? If he had to imagine a physical manifestation of Princess Luna's darker side, well...a black alicorn in armor who addressed Luna mockingly would certainly fit the bill. She certainly wasn't the princess's sister, Princess Celestia. Celestia was supposed to be white with a mane like the aurora borealis, and with a sun on her flank instead of a moon. This one, though... "The darker side of which you spoke, my princess?" he murmured softly to Luna. He watched the stranger and prepared to put himself between the two princesses. They were obviously both fearsome warriors, but he was dead--what could this one do to hurt him?

How pleasantly this night had begun chatting and reminiscing, she glanced at her companion about to reply a gentle and mysterious smile adorning her face until she heard a voice she's hoped had been truly lost. She supposed it was inevitable the creature fed on negative emotions but she'd found herself wishing she'd had more time before her new vassal to meet this creature. The corrupted nebulous mass, Her greatest shame now stood before her in a form independent of her. She still carried a deep guilt inside for what she'd done however she tried to make sure it didn't interfere with her regular duties. And Such was her duty now.
Luna chose to ignore her comment about Mist, he was a tortured one who needed her help and not a vile creature like the one that stood before her. Though they were not here, she had still been shown many things that helped now it made dealing with.. herself easier "We decline Thou!" Luna spoke loudly almost shouting, her voice piercing through the night. Narrowed her eyes and took a firm step forward putting her hoof down glaring at her other form.
"Yes, she is ours." Luna whispered regretfully to Mistsorrow.
"I can still feel your bitterness and Anger," Nightmare gave her counterpart a silkily smile. "All your feelings of resentment, inferiority!" She couldn't use any magic but she could mess with her head. That was always fun, she loved messing with ponies heads. Watching them flee from her nightmares She could definitely mess with her head. It was the only fun she was going to gong to get.
"Can't you tell My dear? He reeks of something quite sinister." the mare laughed "You're drawn to the dark like a moth to a flame." Nightmare took a step closer and looked at Luna's new little friend. Nightmare's eyes narrowed in on Luna's dark coated companion.
"You, what do you fear?" She could sense it he was full of it. slitted cyan eyes narrowed down focusing on Mistsorrow. menacingly "you reek fear."
"Leave him be." Luna put herself in front of mist. If her shadow was good at anything it was poking at insecurities.

Mistsorrow nodded. He couldn't say that he was surprised in the least about the identity of the shadow. It was...fairly obvious. It would seem that her darker side had taken on an identity separate from her, with its own body to boot. He eyed the stranger up and down. She looked strong, aggressive, fearsome--and yet, Mist wasn't afraid of her. How odd. He wasn't scared of her, even though he knew who she was, and even though she and Luna both acted like he should be afraid. He knew why he wasn't afraid, and it had nothing to do with either of them.
Mistsorrow smiled at Nightmare Moon, fixing her with his dead, purple eyes. They glowed slightly in the darkness, and he knew that as soon as he opened his mouth, the glow of Dark Energon would be visible in his throat. "I don't fear you," he said, his voice bored, bordering on contemptuous. "What I fear is a hundred thousand times more powerful than you. What I fear is a god. You" He looked her up and down, "are an alter ego with delusions of grandeur. You couldn't hold a candle to the Devourer." He turned to Luna and shook his head. "Let's leave her here, my princess," he said. "She's just a sad shadow looking for power she'll never regain."

"I.." Nightmare began only to be cut off by mistsorrow
The mare blinked for a moment, Nightmare was taken back for a moment between the insult and the fact he spoke of something more powerful than her. Regaining her composure The wicked mare simply laughed. The fact he didn't fear her was something he would regret latter Nigthamre would make sure. Really though something bigger than her? How unlikely she scoffed. However, On the off chance it was true, If this devourer scared this child more than she did it was worth looking into if she could acquire it's power. She also used to be able to make nightmares real. that might be something to try and regain.
"Leaving, so soon? the night's only just begun." Nightmare looked down on the two smugly. Perhaps that creature Luna's new companion spoke of was the sinister presence she felt. In that case, she at least knew what to look for. She was going to leave herself though now that she had something more interesting than tormenting Luna to look for but she had to have one of the last words. Once the two left Nightmare would have a so called god to find.
Mist's defiance of her shadow made Luna's heavy heart lighten if only just a bit. The Princess smiled at her companion. he was very brave and good. She was very proud of him. Luna had seen bits and pieces of the creature in which he spoke when she did what she could to help alleviate his nightmares. Her powers were mostly gone but she used all that she had when she was able. She knew from that he was a strong soul, he's fought the monster off on his own before.
What her shadow had said earlier was true, Luna hated the fact she still had some insecurities. Though with the help of friends she'd tried to let them be forgotten. They were still there nagging at her from time to time. But right now wasn't the time she would not let the shadow use her again that much she'd promised herself and her friends and family.
"Yes, let us be rid of this Shadow." Luna agreed smiling proudly at mist and narrowing her eyes at Nightmare.
Though she put on a strong front Luna wasn't so sure the shadow would be dissuaded, there was always hidden darkness in other's hearts. Luna's shadow was a master at exploiting it. That made Luna worry.
