Nocturne
User Image

Personal Information

Name: Vaydran "Nocturne" Wayne
Titles: n/a
Age: 20
Birth Date: Dec 21
Gender: Male
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 165 lbs

Personality:
Almost always Vaydran will introduce himself with his alias/stage name "Nocturne" as he prefers the musical term over his rather peculiar name. He is charming, easy going, and an appreciator of good music and food. Really, in almost all ways, he's exactly what you'd expect of a friendly wandering bard and is generally well-liked for his amicability and lack of bad intentions despite having a few rather pointy teeth. Those who know him know that he can speak a lot but also knows when to stay silent. Sociable and kind, Nocturne likes to think optimistically and is well-liked for his borderline innocent personality.

Not a huge fan of fighting, Nocturne prefers to create, and is quite good at it. His talent for working with his hands has also netted him quite a reputation for good work, which combined with his charisma has given him several benefits with merchants in nearly any town. He's particularly interested in the creation of things he enjoys, which naturally attracts him to the bardic and chef trades, the practicality of either profession be damned. In fact, he's quite horrid at the whole combat thing, and after smiling goofily for a little bit (just for comic relief) will skedaddle as fast as he possible can, which admittedly isn't all that fast. He's so bad he can't even run away properly. As a result, he usually attempts to talk his way out of a situation, which has landed him in more weird situations than he can count. Many of the tales he sings of, not all of them true, find inspiration in these bizarre encounters.

Despite being such a nice guy, Nocturne is a frighteningly good actor. It's talent, really. Although, he doesn't have many secrets, nor is he the type to be secretive. He holds only one secret close to his heart, his Zoanthrope subrace, but he doesn't really need to try all that hard. He's grown up as a normal human and he has no real desire to transform. The only thing he needs to hide are his occasional cravings for blood, which are about akin to any regular person's craving for a favorite food: something he would like to satisfy but not an uncontrollable need.

While he doesn't get to enjoy it often, Nocturne prefers the blood of someone who consistently eats good food, but even just recently eating a good meal is enough to raise the level of the blood in Nocturne's opinion.

Description:
Noticeable distinguishing physical features of Nocturne include scars running down each arm, pointed ears and sharp teeth, specifically the canines and premolars. The fangs are shaped so that they nestle into each other, allowing Nocturne's mouth to open and close like that of a normal human's. This means that he does not speak with a weird accent caused by an unnatural oral structure. Nocturne's ears are only slightly pointed and are also slightly on the wider side of human ears, unlike the narrower ears of elves and most other civilized pointy-ear races. The two scars Nocturne has running down his arms start from his shoulder blades and extend all the way to his pinky finger. They're the result of a transformation gone wrong--he tried to grow some wings and they ended up painfully breaking straight through his skin instead of whatever the correct way is--when he was young and not as skilled in handling his own body. Luckily, because the cause of his injuries was unskilled usage of the transformation technique, his injuries were quickly healed up and returned to mostly normal, almost as if nothing traumatizing had happened, leaving only the scars as a testament to what happened.

Nocturne, despite being an aspiring bard, dresses quite practically. He almost always has his trusty, green apron on his person, often times he's actually wearing it. As a traveler with no substantial strength, he doesn't have the luxury of a large wardrobe, so he's usually seen wearing the same outfit, of which he carries anywhere between two to three sets of, day-to-day: black shirt, boots, and tan pants with or without his green apron. On top of this is his light luggage, packed with what he considers are the necessities, and a green cloak that doubles as a blanket when needed.

Character Modifiers

Specialization Traits

Trade Master: The art of trades come more easily to the Trade master than to any other, allowing them to gain experience and skill more quickly than any rival.
► x2 Trade Exp Gain

Merchant: A master of bartering and sale, the Merchant is able to buy and sell any item for a better price than his fellows would normally accept, allowing them to quickly amass more funds.
► NPCs buy items for 50% more, and sell for 25% less.

Racial Traits

Broad Specialization: Humans, while they have no natural leaning towards any particular skills, are nonetheless capable of easily learning and mastering new things, often displaying more talents than other more focused races.
► May choose two Specialization Traits.

Skilled Tradesman: Humans, excelling in anything they do, often learn more than one skilled trade, and do so more easily than other races.
► May learn a second trade at base cost. Third trade counts as second in cost scale.

Animalistic Traits: Every zoanthrope is unique, but each of them have one thing in common. All zoanthropes have at least one trait borrowed from their animal form, which remains active even when in their natural form. Because there are so many possibilities, this trait must be applied for in Custom Traits upon character creation.
► Zoanthropes receive one free animalistic trait on creation, and may purchase more starting at 5 SP each, with an additional five per trait added.

Animal Senses: An animal's senses are highly advanced. They can identify a weak scent from a distance of several feet, or a strong one from as much as a mile, and even smell emotions on another creature. They can hear subtle sounds, like the changing of the wind or ants walking across the ground, and so on. All of an animal's senses are to this degree, unless specified otherwise.
► All senses enhanced while in animal form. Individual senses enhanced while partially transformed.

Bloodsucker: As a vampire bat zoanthrope, Vaydran can sustain himself solely on blood and has developed the proper biological tools to do so. Although, this does not mean that he is incapable of surviving on just normal human fare. In fact, he quite enjoys eating like other people.
► If he wanted to, Vaydran can survive on just the blood of a warm-blooded animal, the details of which will be discussed in a skill. To assist this alternate source of nutrition, Vaydran's canines and premolars are razor sharp fangs that let him draw blood and even shave away hair and fur when needed. His saliva prevents blood from clotting and blood vessels from constricting. Like vampire bats, Vaydran feeds on blood by lapping it up.

Skills & Spells

Skills

Racial Skills
Bloodsucker
Prerequisites: Bloodsucker Personal Attribute
SP Cost: 0 SP
Class: Neutral
Energy Cost: 0
Description: The vampire bat zoanthrope can sate their hunger with the blood of any living warm-blooded creature. There is no limit to how much the sucker can feed in one go, but lapping their fill takes time. During combat and other time-sensitive situations, they can only restore up to 10 fp per post. For every 10 fp the zoanthrope gains, the blood donor suffers a 10% rounded down decrease in strength, agility, and dexterity until the next time they take an extended rest. Round up percentages to the next highest number. If the blood donor is under the effects of a consumable or anything else that runs through their blood (e.g. food with special effects, potions, poisons), the feeder will feel the same effects but for half duration. Diseases and such transmitted through the blood will affect the feeder, with the only exceptions being those that would replace or grant him a second subrace.

Animal Transformation
Prerequisites: Level 3
SP Cost: 3 SP
Class: Neutral
Energy Cost: 1
Description: This skill is what allows Zoanthropes to take on their animal forms. By a small expenditure of energy, the zoanthrope calls upon the animal locked inside of them, and brings it to the fore, enforcing the change upon their body. The process is painless, and depending on the size difference between the user's bodies, can take anywhere from a mere moment to several seconds, with larger forms taking longer to transform into. When in animal form, the user gains the Animal Senses trait, as well as a full set of animal instincts, which they can choose to follow or ignore. The user's animal form retains the same stats as their normal form, but includes all the natural advantages of the new form, such as claws and fangs. To end the transformation, the user simply uses the skill again, bringing their normal form out. This skill is a complete transformation, and leaves the user in either full animal or fully normal form, with no middle ground. While transformed the user is only capable of speaking the Beast Tongue, and cannot speak in their normal languages.

Partial Transformation
Prerequisites: Level 5, Animal Transformation
SP Cost: 5 SP
Class: Neutral
Energy Cost: 1
Description: Via partial transformation, a zoanthrope is able to call up a single part of their animal form instead of the full form, applying that change to their normal body, scaled appropriately. This could grant a cat Zoan a tail or ears, a bird zoan wings, and so on, all of which work as they would in full animal form. This skill only works on one part at a time however, and to gain more than one would require additional uses of the skill. Parts that come in pairs such as wings or ears count as one for the purposes of the transformation, though the user can form only one if they wish.

True Transformation
Prerequisites: Level 5, Animal Transformation
SP Cost: 10
Class: Neutral
Energy Cost: 2
Description: With a fair amount of practice, a Zoanthrope is able to learn a finer degree of control over their animal form. In this instance, they are able to control the size of their animal form. With this altered version of the animal transformation, the zoanthrope is able to transform into an animal, not scaled to the size of their base form, but to the true size of the beast their form is based upon. Like with the basic transformation however, the user's stats do not change in any way.

Biography

Pre-Roleplay

Biography: For all of his childhood, Vaydran was the public family secret, known only by immediate family and the Wayne family's trusted butler, Alfred Jarvis. Born to the noble family of a count, it would have no doubt been a great scandal if the oldest child and heir was a zoanthrope. He was taught to conceal, don't feel, don't let them know. Don't let them in. Don't let them see, and it was fairly easy to accomplish the hiding. Vaydran's only inhuman trait were fangs, which were easily written off as some inexplicable genetic defect. Sociable and likeable, he didn't have any monstrous traits or give anyone reason to try and slander his name with accusations.

Vaydran was privileged. His mother and father alike were kind. Whatever their child was, he was still their child and he had given them no reason to fear or hate him. They even gave him a pet flying fox as a birthday present one year, a pet that is still alive as far as Vaydran knows. After Vaydran was born, his parents conceived three more children. The first two survived and grew up healthy. The third died in childbirth, taking their mother. Between the second and third child, Vaydran's father had also adopted an orphan, a promising child from the streets who was older than Vaydran. There was sibling rivalry and conflict. Of course there was grief at the passing of mother and the third child. However, the family lived peaceably, like any normal family.

There was only one problem. Vaydran was too flighty. No one, not even his older adopted sibling, questioned his right to inherit. Everyone supported in concealing his nature from those who would use it to strip him of his privileges. However, when he came of age, Vaydran still did not feel ready to settle. He was always the strange one. Not just because of his genetic differences, but because of his willingness to mingle with the common folk. His imagination ran wild with the stories of books and bards. He enjoyed not just the taste of fine food but also making it and watching others enjoy his creations.

His father had already allowed Vaydran to bypass the stint as a squire and knight that most nobles expected of their children, so he was understandably frustrated when Vaydran revealed that he wanted to just leave his responsibility and travel the world with no reason or purpose other than to find himself and possibly never return home. It was unreasonable. The argument grew heated until finally the count screamed at Vaydran to leave, that he was no son of his. They were words dictated more by rage than reason, but Vaydran was also too angry to consider the possibility that his father may not have meant what was said. On that night, the privileged first son left, and since then, he has not returned. He did not take his pet bat with him.

Out in the real world, Vaydran did surprisingly well as a wanderer. He was still young after all. He gave himself the name "Nocturne" to mark his new life and to keep himself from being recognized by anyone that might know his old self. Nocturne was always a stable and well-balanced member of society because of the guidance of his family, and he continued to hide his abilities as a zoanthrope. He knew what to expect if society ever found out, and that alone scared him into silence, but he was lucky enough to have never been traumatized with the actual experience of his expectations. With his charm, Nocturne quickly grew popular in the towns he passed, and whenever he couldn't earn his keep with some odd job or another, it was easy enough to find a private place where he could drink the blood of an unsuspecting animal. Although, after the first time he developed a terrible fever because he drank the blood of some unknown animal, he's been a little bit more careful about it.

Nocturne's most traumatic moment is when he went and tried to learn to change shape in secret. He was young and curious and completely did not have the right people teach him. Nocturne did manage to change his biological structure… but in the wrong way. He was left largely unharmed after all was done, with large scars being the only proof of the horrific event, but that didn't change that he had felt the pain of wings ripping out of the length of his arm. It left him very much afraid to transform ever again. Only after leaving his home did he dare try again, as a precaution should he ever need to make a hasty escape. Success has dulled the fear of his first transformation, but it's still there and is one of many things that convince him to not take revealing his zoanthrope abilities lightly.

Not too sure what these are, but they were stored with this character's information. My guess is that they were items I was creating for the guild, since the guild was very new, for the express purpose of getting Vaydran what he needed. Of course, they're just basic general items, but it seems like the guild didn't have even those yet. Anyways, from just these two, it should be obvious that my vampire spin-off was meant to charm with music and food: a combination few can fully resist.

Beginner's Musical Instrument
Item Level: 0
Materials/Ingredients: Wood, string, metal. Depends on the specific instrument, really.
Slots Required: 6
Weight: 2 - 4 lbs
Durability: Don't know what's appropriate
Description: A simple musical instrument that can be carried around easily. Suitable for light playing while travelling, it creates music of passable quality in most hands. It's sturdier than more finely tuned variations, but still not sturdy enough to actually be used as a weapon.

Prerequisites: An appropriate trade at lvl 1
Enchantments: 0

Campfire Cooking Set
Item Level: 0
Materials/Ingredients: Wood, string, metal.
Slots Required: 6
Weight: 10 lbs
Durability: Don't know what's appropriate
Description: A basic set of utensils and cookware for outdoor meal-making. It includes what can be either a deep pan or a shallow pot, two flat bowls or round plates, a small knife, and two spoons. Everything comes stacked neatly and tied together with rope, with everything fitting closely to the other so that as much space possible is saved.

Prerequisites: None
Enchantments: 0
