As had happened a few times over the past seasons after the explosion. Gulliver leaned on the railing over looking the center of the Tree, he had a few things rolling through his mind aside from everything outside the Tree. He watched the fawns and fawnies below moving about their everyday chores, routines, errands. He imagined that if he wasn't Captain of the Rangers he'd probably be one of those who just go from day to day doing normal things to help in his own way. He caught sight of a familiar pae walking across the area below and into Mojo's bar. He just watched the entrance of the bar for a few minutes before nodding his resolve and pushing away from the railing. Soon he was standing in the door of the bar and looking over the patrons his eyes landing on her and he moved directly for her table.

The Seer needed no aides in finding her way within the Tree, especially on paths her hooves tread regularly. She crossed the threshold of Mojo's bar and instantly her senses were awash with the sensory environment of the establishment. The smell of alcohol on the air, the murmured chattering of its patrons (with the occasional shout), the very air felt heavier, but not in a suffocating way...more in a comforting way, like wrapping oneself in a blanket. Or at least so the Seer felt.

Already going through her routine of tuning out most of the other patrons, Vanya wove through the bar to take one of her usual tables at the back, where it was a bit quieter and a bit less likely to have much traffic. She wasn't here to socialize, like some; ironically, she sought out such social places in order to be alone. Alone, and yet not, for while others were nearby, she could keep her distance, emotionally removed while not truly alone with her thoughts. She needed break from those as well.

As she took a seat, she reached out to lightly touch the arm of a passing server. "The usual, please," she said without hesitation, trusting the individual to understand. When she was answered with a brief 'Yes, ma'am', she offered the barest hint of a smile with a nod in reply, then made herself comfortable. She had no more than settled in when she detected a strange change in the movement of the bar. The patrons tended to ebb and flow, and she could watch them all from a distance like the waves of water on the shore. Yet, one was heading straight for her; not only the movement breaking the pattern of the flow, but also the aura itself, shining brightly against the soft glow of the rest. Definitely not the server returning with her drink.

She cursed to herself, turning as if the wall at her shoulder was suddenly fascinating. Wasn't as if she could see it anyway, but that wasn't the point. Hopefully that made it clear she wasn't in the mood for conversation and above all, she was certainly not in the mood for any lectures on her choices. What other reason would a Circle member have for directly approaching her in the bar?

He noticed the server take Vanya's order which only a couple words, but the server nodded and acknowledged Vanya and then moved off, it only went to show Gulliver how often the Seer came to Mojos'. Crossing the room Gulliver dodged a few patrons who were heading out after their meal with a nod of his head and a greeting to his bretheren. Approaching the table he saw her turn away from the outside of the table, he paused for a moment faultering in his hoofsteps. Things had been a bit tense lately, he'd felt it in the atmosphere around the Tree. He took a breath and nodded mostly to himself, he had to ask at worst she could wave him off... right?

Before too long Gulliver was standing next to the table Vanya herself occupied "Sister" he greeted her softly. He motioned the seat across from her "May I join you for a moment, I have a personal question to ask." he questioned trying to make it obvious he wasn't there with any Tree-based agenda.

Vanya felt the fur bristle at the back of her neck in irritation, however she managed to keep her initial reaction limited to that and only silently acknowledged the greeting with a turn of her head in Gulliver's direction. "A personal question?" That did little to lower her guard. Of course, it could refer to being personal to Gulliver and not personal to her, but the odds remained 50/50. She wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone judging her life choices...though, he could equally be wishing to ask for a favor, considering the words chosen.

After a moment to consider, she sighed, sounding resigned as she made a general gesture towards the remaining chair. "Alright, fine." A third presence was hovering nearby, seemingly unsure whether to interrupt. She made a second waving gesture to let the server know it was fine to step in with her drink. She took the metal cup from them with gentle fingers, the cold surface already starting to draw condensation from the air towards it. Vanya gave the server a ghost of a smile and a nod. "Thank you."

Lifting the cup to her face, she inhaled the scent with eyes closed, then took a sip. It was a simple drink; spirits with fresh shaved ginger and a splash of lime. Refreshing, yet with a kick. Satisfied with the first sip, she settled into her chair and set the cup on the table in front of her, resting her arms before her.

"Very well, Captain. What is it that I can do for you?"

"Thankyou Sister" he replied and took the seat adjacent to hers. He waved off the server with a simple hake of his head, he wasn't there to get any drink or food this day he simply wished to ask Vanya something he'd been putting off asking her for several seasons.

"Actually it's something I am hoping you may consider doing for me." He paused not quite sure how to word it. "I am hoping to know more of my past, way past. I know it's possible, but I know it can be dangerous too" he vividly remembered the meeting with the naiad those many seasons ago. His eyes briefly glanced towards another fawn who was passing the table. He waited for him to finish passing before looking back to Vanya.

He took a deep breath before continuing, he knew there was as equal a chance that she'd deny him his request as there was that she'd actually agree to it. "I know it's asking a lot, but I'm hoping you'd at least consider helping me discover that past." he went quiet again watching her reactions to his words closely.

The dark faunness' fingertips trailed lightly over the cup in her hands, picking up the condensation and collecting it until the surface tension of the water became too great and the droplets fell to the table. She seemed fairly intent on this simple action, but she was silently mulling over the ranger captain's request. She knew what her initial 'knee jerk' response was to the request, but held her silence. Afterall, no one else in the Tree knew what she had attempted. No one, except Takis...and Earthmother.

With that information aside, Gulliver had been there at the meeting when Earth and Water had joined in alliance. It had very nearly not happened at all, given the events that unfolded and the tensions that had erupted. He had been there to witness it all first hand, including what had happened to the Naiad Queen and her guard who had only brushed with their past lives. The spirits had been especially tricky that day, bringing them both valuable knowledge...and also knowledge that had nearly lead to their deaths in the present. At least there had been some useful information attained to make the risk they had taken worthwhile. If Earthmother hadn't been there to explain and save the day...

She'd come to the rescue again when her young apprentice had decided to be a stupid, young fool and test fate on her own. The spirits had not been kind. Not at all. What had been learned...had it been valuable enough to exchange for all the damage that had been done as a result?

Vanya didn't think so.

It had caused pain, created rifts in previously strong bonds...and for what?

She lifted her cup, high enough to once more inhale the tangled scents of citrus and ginger and said with a simple breath before calmly taking a sip: "No."

Gulliver watches as Vanya silently ran her fingers over the cup, he watched the water roll over her fingers before looking back from her hands to her face. The silence between them after his question was nearly tangible. He had no idea what was going on in his brethren's mind, but he had a feeling she was contemplating his request.

She lifted her cup and he lost the line of sight of her expression, he heard her gentle breath, No... it was like silence ended with a loud crash. "Sister, surely there is some way that possibly this could happen" he spoke in soft tones. Gulliver wasn't desperate by any means but he did want to fill that hole was his history, his past.

The Captain of the Rangers wanted to know there was some way to figure out his past, that it wasn't a hopeless cause. That there was a chance even if it was a slim one to make this work.

"Do you have a death wish?"

The question came out perhaps colder than she'd intended...but perhaps not. Vanya's expression was hard set, as if staring far into the distance, well beyond the table and floor before her. "You say you know the danger, but do you? You should. You should know as well as anyone what can happen if you go reaching for that knowledge. You've seen it yourself." There was an edge to her tone; it spoke of warning but also of disapproval. Though her tone was sharp, it was also quiet, unwilling to draw nearby ears into the conversation.

"Just what is it that you hope to learn? Do you think it's worth risking your life for? Do you think it will make a positive difference? What if it brings only turmoil and tragedy instead? Consider that well before you even think about trying to pursue this." Glowering, Vanya lifted her drink, using the gesture to mask her attempt to calm herself. It was a moment before she spoke again. "No, Brother, I will not help you attempt to kill yourself. If possible, I would forbid you to pursue this path on your own either, as the results could be just as disasterous. I suppose there is little I can do about that though, as your actions will be your own. Just realize that if something does happen, well...there will be little anyone can do to help you." Perhaps...and only perhaps, if Earthmother could have been consulted, but no, with her still missing... Vanya could see little reason to pursue this path. There were no signs that Gulliver's past would hold any worthwhile knowledge to justify risking his life to attain. Even if it could be guaranteed that it would succeed at all. Without Earthmother around though in case something went wrong...no, Vanya was putting her hoof down on this one.
