- Dragons
- Dragons are scaled, reptilian creatures, with two forelegs that can almost function as hands, two hind legs and two wings. They have sharp teeth and claws, leathery wings and long necks and tails, with spiny crests running down their backs. As hatchlings, they are around the size of a cat, but continue growing and can reach sizes large enough to swallow a mammoth whole. Their bones are black due to their high iron content. Dragon bone is a highly sought after crafting material. A dragon's scales are largely but not entirely impervious to flame; they protect the more vulnerable flesh and musculature beneath. As a dragon ages, its scales thicken and grow harder, affording even more protection, even as its flames burn hotter. Whereas the flames of a hatchling can set straw aflame, the flames of a great dragon can melt steel and stone.
Great heat emanates from dragons' bodies, to the point that they steam during cold nights. Most breathe extremely hot flame which they use to cook their meat before eating it.
- Lesser Dragons
- Dragons include a total of three similar species. There are the true dragons and the remaining two species are generally classified as lesser dragons. The defining characteristic of the lesser dragons is their primal nature. The lesser dragons are not nearly as intelligent as their cousins and are not playable for characters. Lesser dragons are often caught and trained as mounts for military use by wealthy or large countries, these units are referred to as Dragoon Knights. All lesser dragons grow in size ranging between 16 to 32 feet.
Wyvern ~ Like all dragons Wyvern are scaled, reptilian creatures, with two forelegs that can almost function as hands the arms of which have folding membranes allowing them to double as wings and two hind legs. They have sharp teeth and claws, leathery wings and long necks and tails, with spiny crests running down their backs. Most wyvern are dully colored in comparison to their cousins, often being shades of brown, green, or a stony grey. As hatchlings, they are around the size of a cat like their cousins. Their bones also are black due to their high iron content. A wyvern's scales are largely but not entirely impervious to flame; they protect the more vulnerable flesh and musculature beneath. Just like the true dragons as a wyvern ages, its scales thicken and grow harder, affording even more protection. Wyvern like their more powerful cousins can breath dangerous blasts of fire, but unlike their cousins no wyvern has even been seen using another element instead of fire and a wyvern's fire breath while destructive is no where near as powerful as a true dragon's.
Varghest ~ Also known as a ground dragons the varghest is very different from it cousins. They are of course large, scaled, reptilian creatures, with two forelegs and two hind legs. They have no wings nor are their feet as hand like as the other two. They have sharp teeth and claws, shorter necks but longer tails, with spiny crests running around the head and often have vicious spines on their tails. They are the most splendidly colored of the three draconian species, often sporting vividly bright colored scales in multicolored patterns that can include anywhere from 3 to up to 7 unique colors/shades. Varghest scales never get as tough as their cousins, instead their hide gets tougher while the scales remain relatively thin. This makes them the most flexible and by far the most agile on the ground, only the dead underestimate a varghest's land speed. Like the others they have a good resistance to fire, are no larger than a cat after hatching, and their bones are black from the rich iron content. Varghest do not breath an element and instead have the nastiest venomous bites in all of Levadia.
- Passive Information
- A racial trait, commonly referred to as a racial, is a special ability or power granted to a character based on race. These traits come in both active and passive forms. Each race receives at least 3 traits (several passive and at least one active trait per race).
- Ancestral Knowledge: Dragons pass on much more than genetics when they have offspring. Everything their parents knew they know and so will their own young. Knowledge and experience is handed down through the generations and as a dragon ages they better understand and sort through this wealth of knowledge. This ability is key to the immense wisdom, intellect, and cunning often attributed to dragons.
Arcane Empowerment: Arcane magic can be practiced by any race except the Vampires or the ever elusive Faye.
Arcane Resistance: Dragons are creatures of magic. Magic flows in their blood and powers their bodies. Unsurprisingly they show a resilience that allows them to ignore the effects of magic upon them to a degree. A dragon will be completely unfazed by any magic related to its own element. Their natural magic also renders rank 1 and 2 spells largely useless as they easily resist 80% of the magic's effects. A rank 3 spell is only half effective and anything stronger than that can only be resisted by 20%, which can at the very least remove some of the sting.
Elemental Breath: A big hitter and probably the first ability to spring to mind when asked about a dragon's abilities is its fearsome elemental breath weapon. This ability is usually tied to the dragon's color which usually determines its elemental affinity (See Elemental Connection).
Elemental Connection:Every dragon is born with a connection to a given element. This element governs their most powerful natural offensive abilities and is usually closely tied to the color of their scales. Typical types are Fire, Ice, Poison, Acid, Electric, ect.
Elemental Resistance: Every dragon exhibits an general affinity with fire. They can resist natural fire so much that it is inconsequential to them. A dragon with a fire element is fully immune to fire all together unless it comes from another dragon in which case they have a near perfect 90% resistance. All other dragons share a similar immunity to their own element with the exception of when it comes from another dragon.
Enhanced Senses: Dragons have sharp senses. Vision stands out among the others. It takes some seriously good eyesight to pick out lunch from 30,000 feet.
Fearlessness: Fearlessness or Fear Masking, allows a dragon to hide what it is feeling to a degree. This might not suppress their wrath or happiness, but you will never intimidate a dragon or find one cowering.
Flight:A self explanatory ability and likely the second to spring to mind when asked about the abilities of a dragon.
Polymorph: Around the same time dragons are first gaining other key abilities they master enough control over their magic to make use of it to alter their appearance to change forms from their true form to that of a humanoid. All dragons stay in their dragon form most of the time and view any humanoid form they could take as an alternant form to be used only as needed, usually when they are seeking to avoid attention or when they need to do something about their size (IE most dragons would not fit in the streets much less the buildings within a humanoid settlement, so visiting such places requires them to assume a more appropriately sized form).
Elemental Conjuration: When a dragon take on the form of a humanoid race they no longer have a physiology that allows them to make use of their element connection as they normally. As such while in such forms dragons conjure their element in simple ways. The most common being to create balls, bolts, ect that they can control with their hands. A dragon can get pretty creative with how they handle this but in the end it is all a direct kind of control meaning they can't match a mage in regard to flashiness.
