Third Place Playoff information:

- The winner of this duel will earn the title of 'Legate'
- The lion/ness who is defeated will maintain the previously earned title of 'Captain'
- The winner is the lion/ness who rolls the highest number across 5 turns. An extra turn must be rolled by each player to break a tie. [Reminder of rolls: 1 - miss, 2 - bide/glancing attack, 3 - hit]
- Even if you rolled higher than your opponent, if you fail to edit your rolls with an RP response, your character is disqualified.

The deadline for this RP is: Friday 14th April. However, as this is the last duel, this deadline can be extended by 1 week if required.

It was funny how things worked out sometimes. Vatra and Ud had gone into this tournament with marked favor from Agni-pariksha, and in the end they were to face off against each other. Probably not quite the way the Regent hoped, but they'd both almost made it to the top. There had to be some vindication in that.

"Good luck," she greeted casually, though she had to resist adding 'kid' at the end. He'd made it this far despite his youth, he'd earned that. Despite the relaxed greeting she was keyed-up, itching to move, to strike. To show her mettle far better than the shitshow she'd made of her last round. The red-and-white lioness took the initiative, lunging forward to swing, but in her eagerness to move first she misjudged the distance and fell just short. She bared her teeth in irritation, but tried to maintain her focus. She didn't need to get sloppy again.

Move 1: Bide

Ud was pleased to have gotten as far as he had. Here he was, one of the top four lions to have battled in this little tournament, and already he had climbed considerably high in the ranks, especially for one still filling out his mane. He was quite proud of himself and a bit surprised, but he was learning a lot from everyone he had faced and he certainly didn't regret entering this competition. Now he stood face-to-face with a familiar lioness, one he had first met not long ago when he was still just an apprentice. He gave Vatra a fond smile and bobbed his head as she wished him luck.

"And good luck to you," he returned, eagerness on his face but his voice as earnest as it could be. He was quite excited to be facing a soldier at last, as he was curious to see how their fighting styles would differ. Vatra moved first and Ud made a tactical retreat as she swung, her attack falling just short. He kept his distance for the time being, circling her slowly to see what else she might do.

All of Vatra's matches had been against other Soldiers. But Ud was a Guard now, or had been before the tournament. He'd be more cautious, more evasive. She'd have to catch him and keep him off-balance--or beat him at his own game. The lioness had little patience for evasive dancing so she lunged again, kicking up a spray of sand with her hind paws. Her strike hit nothing but air--again. Ud was far faster than she had expected so far, and while she was keeping her head in the fight this time, her frustration was clear to see.

Ud kept his focus on Vatra, eyes watching her every move. She hadn't gotten this far on luck alone and he knew he couldn't let his guard (ha ha) down, not in this last sparring session. She lunged forward again but he bounced back, dodging the hit once again. She was ruthless in her persistence and he knew she wasn't going to give up.

This time instead of circling her, Ud darted forward. Rather than charging head on as Vatra did, he kept himself slightly to the side to keep his distance. He let one paw reach out to swat at her, hitting her shoulder slightly. Not enough to knock her off balance, but enough to land a touch at the very least.

He was cautious. It wasn't exactly what Vatra preferred, but she might be able to work with that, leverage it. This match was as much about the hits he was able to land, as the ones she was. Time to focus. Intimidation could work in her favor, even if he kept evading her. She could try to keep him cautious.

She readied herself to move as he came in for a hit, feeling it glance off her shoulder as she sidestepped and retaliated with a swift strike of her own. Too much speed, not enough power; it didn't hit much harder than his attack had. Still, it would show him the lioness wasn't out of this one yet.

Ud kept a close eye on Vatra as he darted in. Soldiers were very different from the guards he had fought, and she proved that with surprising speed as he tried to dip away before she had time to retaliate. Her paw swiped him, not hard enough to sting, but hard enough to let him know she wasn't going to go easy. She wanted this just as badly as he did, after all!

He recovered from the attempted dodge and struck again, this time pouncing at her hindquarters. He misjudged a bit, though, as Vatra was still moving, and instead of pinning her down he simply got in another quick strike.

Vatra felt a surge of vindictive triumph as she denied Ud a clean getaway from his own hit. He was quick, but he wasn't untouchable. But that was short lived, as he was soon on the counterattack himself. A failed pounce, but there was still enough weight in his paws to foul her up, her next swing going wide. Her ears flattened against her head, teeth bared as her jaw clenched.

Ud managed to back away from Vatra after his pounce, dodging her attempted swipe at him. His eyes rested on her red and white form, taking in the irritation she was feeling and trying to decide what the best course of action was. He didn't want to rile up a soldier, after all. Deciding it would be best to back up a bit more, Ud shifted his weight to circle Vatra once again. It was unwise to attack when she was like that. It would just be opening himself up for a hit.

The match wasn't looking good for her, Vatra knew. She'd missed too many chances to land a hit on an opponent that was quick and careful. That knowledge fed into her irritation, her tail lashing behind her as she eyed the circling Ud balefully. Then she nodded as though coming to a sudden decision and lunged forward, swiping a paw out at the younger lion. It wasn't a solid hit by any means, more of a smack, but nonetheless she felt marginally better for having landed another one.

Ud watched and waited for Vatra to move, and move she did. She darted forward and reached out with a paw to swipe at him, but he dodged just in time to avoid a full-blown hit. He returned the favor, dipping in to swipe at her head. He missed making a full connecting, but his paw managed to smack against her jaw fairly well. He knew the time limit was coming to a close and he fell back onto his paws, keeping his distance in case she wasn't yet finished.

"Do you yield?" he asked, ready to spring into action again while still keeping his posture held high. It hadn't been the prettiest of battles - no one had landed a solid hit - but he felt like the scales were tipped slightly in his favor.
