The Mayor's Wife Kimi For my dreams I hold my life For wishes I behold my night
The doors opened smoothly and with an air of grace under the touch of the woman. She exhaled a sigh as she searched the empty office. Was he really trying to hide from her or was she just unfortunate enough not to know where he was?
The woman was well dressed, and if anyone knew about the politics of clock down, they knew of the mayor's wife and how engaged she was in helping the town run smoothly. She deferred major decisions to the mayor, as a functioning partner might, but some whispered that she helped. And helped a lot.
How did she help exactly? By keeping the mayor calm? By keeping him focused? By running things?
She suggested they gave her too much credit, for she knew her husband to be a hardworking man with a lot of heart. Still... She did like to see his face now and again.
"Love, where are you?" Her fingers rapped at the handle of the door before she drifted into the room. "We need to talk about something important and I don't know where you are~"

✺A Man With Two Marriages Rupees: 100 Health: 100% Aura:
It had happened shortly after he was elected to the position--countless other mayors had come before him, so of course he was a little less than thrilled to finally have that office that would allow him to help his people as much he wanted to, as he felt driven too...--and he found himself drifting in and out of the rooms of his office complex as listlessly as an old birthday balloon that follows you days after the celebration, sticking to the ceiling, appearing from silent air, ominous when alone, harmless if not goofy with company. His eyes still held that loosely wringing natural intensity to them. This was still the same city boy made good.
For whatever reason, he was able to keep good relations with the races of Termina: the Zora seemed to tolerate him, the Deku would trade with him reasonably, the Garo seemed not to be trying to assassinate him. All of which brought him unbearable stability, made him lose days, weeks on end in the office. The train was running, and all Titus had to do was shovel the coal.
He didn't mean to avoid her, or at least it never started out like that. Something about staying at home, that pastoral life, sounded even more horrible and boring than life in the office. He believed in putting oneself to good use, and that's what kept him burning the midnight oil most nights.
So of course he didn't expect to hear her voice in the other room that night. After all, she was quite busy too (made for peaceful nights whether or not both of them were awake to say goodnight), so why should he expect her? He was watching her through a small gap in the potted plants that obscured a smaller window to a side-room wherein there was a desk at which the mayor sat and scrawled notes and figures down with two books--a ledger and a biography of an old king whom the mayor had modeled himself after--the lovely face that owned that voice. He caught himself somewhere between a grimace and a smile, the mayor turned his gaze back to his work before saying simply, "In here, dear."

Hearing his voice helped her confirm that he was at least in the office. Searching a moment more allowed her to find where he had hidden himself away, not because of fear, but because he found himself so wrapped up in the work that was strewn across his desk. She stopped a fair distance from his desk. She wasn't the kind to throw herself into her husband's arms, though she might have considered wrapping her arms around him if he did not seem so focused.
"A messenger came in with news frm Castle Town." She folded her hands and looked to his face, in some attempt to read his reaction. "Castle Town was attacked yesterday."
Castle Town wasn't their jurisdiction, they both knew, but whenever something so big happened to a major city, there would be side effects. Like refugees, for starters... or whether the dangerous tide would turn in their direction.
They should have a plan.. of some kind... for how to handle this mews before it became too widespread. News like this caught like a spark on straw.

The ledger closed. Titus flung himself back into his chair with a groan from the bearings and a stirring of the dusty air that made it feel as though the room had a draft. "I was afraid of this." He'd chosen to cover his eyes, leaving his elbow pointing toward the ceiling; he remained frozen like this save his softly flapping lips. "A week ago the king had sent world, requesting asylum--it'd gone out to leaders of all nations, why not--saying something about harboring soldiers..." and with a groan from him this time, "Ohh, we don't have the resources!" The words not said were something to the effect of but we will make do, but before they could deliberate too much a tapping came from the office's main door.
"Mister and missus mayor! Guards have a Hylian caravan in their sights. They appear to have built fires on the edge of the Southern Swamp," said the muffled, frazzled voice from the lobby. Titus sent him away, looking to his wife, so often his best advisor, for wisdom.

The timing was unfair, even ahe would admit, but emergencies rarely cared about the state of a region or its ability to handle it. Already came news of a caravan. "We should appraise our citizens of the situation. They are generous, and will want to know the truth of the matter outright."
Yes, they lacked the resources, but so did the refugees who came with less. Traders would come around, as they were wont to do, and business would continue after a fashion. The teouble would come in the second or forth waves, where one could expect people in worse condition.
"Do you think any of our neighboring cities would be willing to offer temporary housing or should we clear some of our parkways for tents?"

Titus shook his head, leaned back, started thinking. Could he really put that on the people? They were good people, sure, most them time, but what happens when they feel they're being used as a resource? Wouldn't they just pin it on their leader? Hold him to that generosity when it hurt and celebrate later, touting their man's power to provide as their strength? Would he doop his people like that?
"Sometimes I wish I didn't care," said the mayor, parting his fingers over his lips just so the sound wasn't muffled. His hand slapped down on his knee as he leaned forward to reach for his wife's hand. "What if we give them room on the estate for a while? At least until we get our proposal to the people straight." He was tired, but still there was the brash lad she'd met those years ago, pawing for just a few more minutes at the tap as he swung her hand softly.
"In the morning we can talk to Max about it--and whoever they have representing them."

The Mayor's Wife Kimi For my dreams I hold my life For wishes I behold my night
Taking hold of her husband's hand, she thought she heard what he whispered, but even if she missed it entirely, she wouldn't ask him to repeat it for her sake. She had heard that note many times before, and in some of the moments when she didn't feel quite as excited about her position, she might have muttered the same.
True to form, he pointed out his concern for the people first. The refugees, from what reports had come in thus far, hadn't seemed like terribly many. All the same, what they chose to do would set the tone for all the rest that would follow. Letting the caravan stay on their estate would not encroach upon the people, and would offer enough time to include the people.
"That is a sound plan." She stepped closer to him and rubbed the back of his hand with her thumb. Max... had a keen mind, but there was always something about him that seemed to edge on villainy. Perhaps it was merely his profession that led her opinion of him, but in her mind, he always seemed veiled, as though she would never see his true face. She trusted that her husband had at least seen the man's true face.
"What else is on your mind?"

"What else is on my mind," she says. This is why people stay single; nobody wants to marry a telepath, but it's just not something that's negotiable... Oy vey.
"I want to upend the Ikana government," said the mayor, jet black but obviously being ghoulish. The smirk of a cat caught the corner of his mouth for a shade of a moment before falling, tugging the brightness of his eyes down with them in an unvoiced sigh. His hand lost its strength, but held Kimi's with the trust that he would regain his fire quickly enough to lift them up again. That, he knew, was just one reason he loved her.
"They expect me to make an appearance at the Stone Tower ruins again..." His head flopped to one side, tongue splashing out in kabuki death before lethargically correcting itself. "They tell me they've really done it this time, that they've found whatever it was--some relic, they won't tell me until I agree, not that that's why I was being asked to attend--that made them so bleeding important in the old age. The Stone Age. Right."

The Mayor's Wife Kimi For my dreams I hold my life For wishes I behold my night
A surprisingly rebellious statement, but it earned half of a smile from Kimi as she rolled her eyes. She stepped closer and wrapped her arms around him, and her patience for his real answer paid off in words.
He was being called back to the Stone Tower again. A side project, if she remembered, because there had been a strong call toward history in their town as of late. Things like this seemed only to happen in lore and in the ancient past, and usually just before the hero arrived. Word had it that there was a hero in Hyrule. If there had been an attack, then surely the hero was somewhere to be seen.
The pattern repeated in their lifetime. Exciting... but nervewracking when a person was just starting to get used to the idea of being married, let alone the possibility of bringing little children into such a dangerous world. ... Thoughts for the future, naturally.
"It means so much to them.

"It does." Titus allowed himself to curl into her, resting his face just above her collarbone for a moment. "If I pretend to care, they'll like me, that's how it goes," the canon went, softly, his voice rasping right out of official image.
"...--and I'll have to make sure to touch up my old stories--you know the ones--for the talking afterward." His adventurous youth had earned him the reputation of a treasure hunter and journeyman: "Wouldn't you know they'd use all of it against me--as if I had some kind of obligation because of it to be there. Oh, darling, why can't I go on leading the people to hate them and their awful customs?" He, of course, meant none of it. He made a sound like a perturbed cat and slid out of his wife's neck, looking at her with tired, romantic eyes.
"Let's go home. We're both still conscious and the occasion demands a drink. We can even fall lifeless on the sofa."

It meant something to them, and because of that, they wanted to share it with someone who would appreciate the zeal of exploration and excavation. In a way, it was asking his blessing that they shared these discoveries with him instead of selfishly keeping it to themselves. Wasn't it better that they were informed?
It suggested that the population liked their mayor. So, keeping her thoughts to herself, she held her husband until he slid out of her arms. She moved her arm into his and stepped to his side. It sounded as though he could use the drink.
It had been a while since they could enjoy a quiet evening together. Uncertain of when they would next have the chance, she seized upon this one. "That sounds nice. You'll feel better once you're home."
