It was really amazing that they'd managed to go this far without Chaeshia realizing that they were missing something crucial in their business venture. Chaesh had been chatting with a classmate about her business, and when they'd been asked whether they had a business card... they'd been, rather embarrasingly, caught empty-handed.

So! A business card design would be today's task– and hopefully, if classes were gearing up the way they thought they were, they'd be able to hand in the finished result for grading, if not for extra credit. They sat at their desk, art program open in the background while they scrolled through dozens of template ideas.

Chaesh wanted a professional-looking design for certain, one that was artistic and impactful. As far as the art and design went, Chaesh felt the business had a firmly playful but polished look down, which covered the logo, the fonts, and the colour choices she'd use.

For the most part, now, the design parameters would be limited by how much they wanted to spend. Chaesh's kneejerk was to splurge on all the little bells and whistles to make certain the cards were both memorable, and would hold up well in a wallet, purse, backpack or back pocket, but this business hadn't exactly taken off with the speed and force she'd hoped for, and the operating costs of a whole website had cut into profits. Still, the small, steady orders they were getting for either resale on real or imitation animal parts, their handmade animal accessories, and even one completely-definitely-not-a-revenant-really-just-a-mounting-for-real, well.

This venture had potential, and it was helping keep the Kumiho from going insane over schoolwork and studying. As long as she had her dormmate agreeing with her and helping with the business, there was nothing that could stop her.

"Haaanaaaa," they called out insistently, waiting for some sort of bump, shuffle, or word of response before they launched into their series of questions. "I need opinions for the business cards." As soon as the kirin came into view, the onslaught began.

"Should I pay extra for rounded corners, or not? Do we splurge for colour, and make sure the cards are memorable, or just leave it black and white with a metallic overlay? I'm dead set on the shine on the card– but would silver or gold work better? I mean, if it's in colour, definitely gold, but if it's black and white, would it be classier to make the whole thing grayscale? What about the card stock, and the colour? They've got unbleached and bleached in a variety of qualities– I don't want these to feel like trash, and they've gotta hold up to abuse."

At his name, the kirin's black ear twitched, and he pushed himself and the swivel chair he was sitting in away from the desk, away from the mathematics homework.

"Mm?"

The onslaught began. Fortunately, Chaesh's tide of enthusiasm was quite familiar to Hana by this time.

Hana pushed a loose lock of hair back, and considered their options. He had opinions, of course, about what he liked in a business card, but what would actually be memorable?

"I'm partial to rounded edges," he said, "they stand out, and feel comfortable to hold in your hand. I'd really like those. Grayscale, I am thinking, with the silver moon? For the class-the flash will still be quite distinctive. I don't think I can judge cardstock without feeling it under my hands--do we have any examples handy?" Something middle of the road would be find, wouldn't it? Not too pricey, not too cheap.

Chaesh gave a gusty sigh, and nodded slightly. Clearly, what Hana had said wasn't what they had wanted to hear. "I guess." They clicked to their design, un-clicking the colour layer and moving to change the gold moon to a silver one, then hand-dragged a white 'shine' layer over the gray to try and emulate the metallic effect.

"With how crisp everything looks, it looks almost wrong to have rounded corners. And the logo and logo font look out of place..." They were clearly dissatisfied with the mock-up.

"It's jarring like this. I'd rather keep the colour and ditch the rounded corners."

Hana didn't think it looked that bad, but Chaesh was stubborn possessed of firmly fixed aesthetic opinions, he knew. The kumiho's sense of style would be key, Hana hoped, to their business venture's success. The kirin chewed the tip of his pencil as he considered the new mock-up.

"You're right, it is lacking something without the palette you picked out. So color and untrimmed edges, how much does that come to with some inexpensive cardstock?" Color and metallic shine we going to be expensive, the daydream feared. "I don't want to break the bank on this, you know."

Didn't want to break the bank... didn't want to spend a penny more than he had to, more like. Chaesh sighed a gusty sigh, drumming their fingers against the desk as they considered their options... and moved to start clicking through the website to get a quote.

They slid their chair to the side, letting the kirin take a look at the quote for himself.

"It's really not all that much less than if the edges were trimmed," the kumiho informed the kirin. "And cheap is flimsy. Flimsy with untrimmed edges means buckling, and folding, and... ech." It was just less than ideal, all-around.

"But we could buy more with the budget you've set." Gods, did they ever hate budgeting.
