He smirked slightly. "Alas not, I primarily deal with people in more critical states, I'm not equipped to help with mental problems. I see many symptoms of stress certainly, but there is a dearth of therapy options. Often the solution is to send people off island for therapy, but how much can one truly tell a human doctor?"

He considered a moment before looking back up. "So no counselors here? Anyone else to confine in? Like a pastor? Or people just on their own? Cause like, I knew people who were in Iraq and they come back funny as ******** and I think those people need it. Don't want to get clubbed by a guy here if he snaps or get choked when I sleep."

Lawrence had to resist the urge to laugh out loud in a spike of irrational amusement at the idea of his own attempts to do the former or latter stemming from shell shock. He bit it back.
"Like I say there are some off island alternatives but yes for the moment it is fairly thin on the ground mental health wise. I'd love to help but as I say I'm not qualified. People tend to mostly rely on their coworkers for support I think.. until they die as well."
He picked up a pot to inspect it and put it down in disgust. "Im fairly resilient but even I've known loss here"

He pressed the dough slowly with the heel of his palm, thinking off all the guys back home who wound up cold on the streets. Over a girl. Over money or drugs. Over pride. Would this place be any different for him?
"That's rough, man." He said, looking over at the doctor who seemed hardened by what he had been through yet still empathetic to how people were being treated and neglected. "You..wanna talk about it?"

Lawrence gave Kai a very bright and eager sort of look. This guy was buying it, he was honestly buying that Lawrence had some degree of empathy or concern for other people. It was a new feeling after so long dealing with America calling him out. He'd missed naive idiots.
"It can be." he said grimly."I've seen a lot of tragedy in my time"[
He shrugged. "Had my daughter die on a mission and then people frame me for it, saying I was deliberately putting her at risk. Had a few girlfriends, one left me, the other one died, sacrificed herself because people told her that was all she was worth."
He hung his head. "You get used to it after a while, I do what I can, try to help people and look after my boys."

"Sounds like alotta people like to talk too much."
He moved one dough ball over for Lawr to check if he wanted and moved to another was if untouched dough.
"It's hard seeing people close to you just be gone like that for whatever reason. Lost plenty that way. Makes you consider life a whole lot more. If it's blessing or curses hanging on you." He pressed down hard against the resistance of the dough.
"How you dealing with it? Your kids okay? Must be hard loosin and wondering who is gonna be around if you go? You got more family here to watch em?"
He was surprised to her hr had sons here, and wondered if there were more homes here for families like normal army bases. It was not a question to ask where the mom was as it didn't change she seemed gone.

"Yes, very true." Lawrence said with a sad little smile. "They are very fond of their lies. It seems to be a standard thing to make up falsehoods about innocent people here, a past-time really. Rather harsh when it's losing a family member though."
Inspecting the dough he was pleased to see it was shiny and firm and would pass muster. It wasn't perfect but they weren't really going for perfection here so much as edibility.
"I get by day to day. I have a new partner now and I live in a house with my sons Malkam and Mikael. It's not perfect, but what family ever is?"

He gave out a laugh that came from the bottom of his stomach, shaking his shoulders. "True dat! At least your kids get to stick with you through it and know who to look to when things get rough. That's what matters."
