N1T30WL CR do you have an example? im not sure if i have ever listened to something like this. and yeah its probably me and me alone sad sorry about that sad Actually, I have a very fine example of progressive music in it's earliest stages. There's a list of songs I'd like you to look up to see how it all started. RUSH is an iconic band, who's career spans over 40 Years. They too are Canadian. Rush is a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario. The band is composed of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee; guitarist and backing vocalist Alex Lifeson; and drummer, percussionist, and lyricist Neil Peart. The band and its membership went through several reconfigurations between 1968 and 1974, achieving its current line-up when Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, two weeks before the group's first tour of the United States. Rush is known for its musicianship, complex compositions, and eclectic lyrical motifs drawing heavily on science fiction, fantasy, and philosophy. The band's musical style has changed several times over the years, from a blues-inspired hard rock beginning, later moving into progressive rock, and including a period marked by heavy use of synthesizers. In the early 1990s, Rush returned to a guitar-driven hard rock sound, which has continued to the present. According to the RIAA, Rush ranks 80th with sales of 25 million units in the US. Although total worldwide album sales are not calculated by any single entity, several industry sources estimated Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units as of 2004. The group has been awarded 24 gold, 14 platinum, and 3 multi-platinum albums. Rush has received nominations for seven Grammy Awards. The band has won several Juno Awards, won an International Achievement Award at the 2009 SOCAN Awards, was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Over their careers, the members of Rush have been acknowledged as some of the most proficient players on their respective instruments, with each band member winning numerous awards in magazine readers' polls. Rush announced plans to stop large-scale touring at the end of 2015. However, they have not ruled out the possibility of future studio albums and smaller-scale tours. Song include: "Closer to the Heart" "Limelight" "Tears" These are the easier ones to listen to and understand.

Rush is indeed an excellent band. I still have most of their albums in my collection. Progressive music has evolved over the years as well. My current favorite being Animals as Leaders.

For progressive Metal I'd recommend Opeth, their discography is pretty massive.
The Pax Cecelia are Post-Rock with traces of Metal and Hardcore.
Gospel are a very progressive Emo/Screamo band with Post-Hardcore elements. They're an extremely unique band, because I don't think anyone else is making such progressive Emo/Screamo. And there's debate as to whether they're Emo or Screamo, but they have a lot of elements from both. I'm inclined to lean towards Emo though.

My suggestions for Progressive Metal would be Maximum the Hormone from Japan and From Another Planet from Ohio, USA. Both significantly different sounds, yet both brilliantly well written.
