Misha's hold on him tightened, her hand at the back of his neck keeping his head lowered and his face turned towards hers. Her thin, arching brows drew together, a wrinkle forming between them, but she never wavered in keeping her eyes locked to his. "Mal."

Her voice stayed low and lost none of its sweetness but a thread of steel entered it now. "You can be there in all sorts of ways. Being there is not always physical. Sometimes it's a phone call or a Skype session or just the other person knowing with all of their heart that you love them and support them."

Her hand left his neck and moved down to press at his chest, over his heart. It was hard to maneuver, given their proximity, but it was necessary. "Your heart is here and with Finn and with Sasha. Whatever happened between you and Gio... I'm sorry." She softened, eyes going the color of rainy skies. "I'm so very sorry that you two lost whatever you had and hurt each other and keep hurting each other. Mal..."

Misha softened even further and her hand moved to curve at his cheek. "If you need to go and be with Finn, you do that," she whispered. "I'll pick up any slack you leave here for a bit and I'll make the others help."

He tried to let go of the old hurt, and covered her hand over his heart, settling her palm there a little better. "I guess my big fear is that Finn will think I'm trying to separate them because Gio and I split." Mal said it carefully; she'd cut close to him with that, and he was glad that they were friends. A friends' words could be used to heal, maybe.

He hoped they were friends, anyway. "He hasn't said it yet. But he and Sasha did this, and I don't know if I managed to keep the sound of my worry out of the phone call." He shifted, wanting to pace again; Mal was a kinetic person, and he wanted to move. It helped calm his nerves. "I'm the only person he has, other than Sasha. And they're -- Misha, they're scary wrapped up in each other."

Maybe she would understand his fear for Finn. Misha was like him, very much her own person, very much herself, and though probably neither of them were one hundred percent sure one hundred percent of the time, they didn't need anyone else to be steady. Finn had to have Sasha nearby. It made Mal's mouth twist. "Am I a bad person that I leveraged my approval for their engagement to get them to see separate therapists?" He needed to make this lighter; the punching bag had helped, but this was cutting him to the quick again.

Misha's answering smile walked the border between sad and amused but the warmth never left for a moment. She felt the coiled energy in him, pulsing beneath her hand. His words left her wondering if he honestly wanted her to answer; was he seeking reassurance or to be chastised for his demands? Was it meddling? Sure but Misha firmly believed that it was more than okay to meddle in the lives of those you loved.

"Are you a bad person? For that reason?" she repeated. "Oh, Indy..." Raising herself onto the balls of her feet, Misha kissed his cheek. Then she drew away and moved to her phone where she tapped until she could call up a faster tune, something that harkened back to the rhythm of a tango. Returning to Mal, she again took his hands in hers, fingers tangling together firmly, and coaxed him back into dancing. It was not pacing but it counted as movement.

"No, I don't think you're a bad person. I think you're worried about two people who mean a lot to you. I think you're handling that as best you can with the tools you have. I don't know how fantastic a cop you were or how you got confessions but that's become part of you, I bet." She smiled. "I personally think it's good they talk to people separately but that's just my opinion."

Misha paused, weighed her words, and then met his eyes firmly. A certain vulnerability flickered in her gaze but her mouth still held a mildly teasing smile. "I've never been so completely one half of a whole. Have you?"
