Eilzabeth always looked forward to lunchtime, it was a chance for her to meet new students and make lasting friendships. It was actually a little packed in her already, but as she got into line to pick out her lunch she looked around for a good table to join. She saw a few of her friends at scattered tables and wondered if she should join one of them for the break. That would be predictable though. No, today she was looking to meet someone new.
Once she got out of line she spotted a lone student at a table toward the back of the room. Were they waiting for some friends? Maybe they were a loner! Of this was her chance to hopefully brighten someone's day!
With a little skip in her step she made it over to the table and set her tray down across from the other student. "Do you mind if I sit here?" Of course, even if they said no she was already sitting down.

Darryl liked sitting alone. His other option was to sit with one of his siblings. Evelyn always sat with her friends, creating a huge, chatty mess of teenagers and their hormones. Sitting with Heru just involved a lot of sports talk and incessant brother-worshipping. No thanks. Darryl preferred to sit alone. He was a loner by nature. He didn't need other people to play with. He didn't need partners on class projects (though he always got assigned some). He didn't need anyone's help with anything, no matter what other people thought.
He was quite enjoying his lunch, a homemade sandwich, when someone walked up to his table. He didn't recognize them. He tilted his head at them and frowned when they asked him if they could sit. He shrugged. "I guess," he muttered. It's a free country, he thought to himself.
He looked them over. They looked like a full-blooded Chimera (he himself was only half-Chimera). He didn't know what they were doing at his table, though. What right did they have to barge onto his personal time, his personal meal?! He decided then and there that they must be a jerk.
