So supposedly Plan B doesn't work if you weigh over 175lb?

So small story short condom broke midway, so if anything maybe just pre stuff. Next day bought plan b alternative Aftera (same progestin only hormone pill, 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel) and took it. I have nerve damage (neuropathy) and was having some intense flare ups so I was looking for how long it stays in your system and whether being on your period (the hormones aspect) effects neuropathy (I guess it does) because I was due to start mine within the next few days plus the added hormones is screwing with me big time.

Anyways...

I came across articles stating that in England they have a warning on the box that the company in the U.S. refuses to add to their box or website and it goes like this. If you weigh over 165lb plan B is less effective and if you weigh over 175lb that it's not effective at all. I weigh 184lb. What I read stated that women who weigh more have more enzymes in their livers so the pill gets broken down leaving very little to none to enter the blood stream after.

So right now I'm having my period I more or less was spotting several days after the pill and now I'm probably like on day 3 of my cycle. I also read some comments stating if you've already ovulated the pill does nothing because of reasons about how it works that I don't remember, not sure how true that is. I heard there's a pill called Ella One that doesn't matter how much you weigh but that wasn't available where I went.

So did you guys know that? Anybody weigh over 175 take it and it worked? (Shot in the dark I know) I wonder what my chances are of not being pregnant, wondering if I should consult my obgyn or if it's too soon and would be wasting their time. Just damn this really sucks.

Almost all the types of birth control lose some effectiveness if your over 170+ or so(depending on the type)
But it's not that it flat out won't work, but that it's less likely to work perfectly. It might work just fine.

I think you should wait the typical month or so and go have a test done to be on the safe side.
I wouldn't go taking this other pill though.... just in case overlapping both causes troubles.

Just don't drive yourself crazy over this. Worrying never helps anything.

Ah, that's a bummer, even if I could go on pills I still weigh too much. I spoke to the doc about the iud but she explained since I aren't given birth it could hurt more than help.

I'm passed the 72 hour allotment so I'm hoping the pill worked. I'll try not to worry but I know when the time comes closer I might be anxious. ^^;

I was on the pill and I had no issues. They are less effective but it's not so much so that it's useless. But the pills also raise your risk of heart attack and things so it's a trade off.

So.... I got my iud last year and when I was selecting the doctor had some that were intended for people who hadn't had children yet. I'd check again on them.
I loooove mine and highly recommend them! And if you get it put in during your period it doesn't hurt as bad.
When I had mine the actual procedure wasn't that bad. Odd and uncomfortable, but no real pain pain.

Afterwards I hard horrid cramps for like two days. It was awful but not the worst pain I've felt. Deffinetly take a least the day of off of any activities. You'll want to lay in bed at least that long. Lol

But after that it was fine. I've had no side effects or issues with mine at all.

And for the record I've weighed more than you at one point... so yeah. XD

That's interesting, I guess I'll have to ask about that because when she asked if I had children and told me how much it would hurt it didn't sound like different types was a thing. The iud's do not have hormones right?

I'm sure it hurts more if you haven't had children.... but I doubt it'd be that much more so. They have to prepare you though.
There are like 8 different brands out there now I think. I wanna say stellara is the one for people with no children, but I'm not sure.
I have the mirena one.

They have very very low doses of hormones.
i got mine because the hormones were too much for me.
They have kinds with no hormones, but those are the permanent ones I think. That make it so you can never have kids. They don't give those to young peoples though. Lol

I'll look it up, but yeah hormones mess me up. Especially now with the neuropathy I'm not sure how it'll effect me. After I took the plan B I had a severe flare up but not sure if it was the plan b or just my pms. I hope it was the plan b because I don't want to get this bad every month. sweatdrop

I'm really sensitive to the hormones too. I tried the birth control shot and about lost my mind after. It was horrible.
This doesn't bug me though... and you can always have it removed whenever you want if the hormones do bother you.
That's the best part... unlike a pill that has to slowly leave the system, pulling the iud out is almost gone right away. 3nodding

in fact she advised me since i can't be on birth control and i have a scare to take plan b - i doubt she would advise it if it wouldn't work

I know what you mean, if it helped and wouldn't hurt why not take two to be safe but something I read says it won't work that way. Maybe I can find it later but it said the type of drug or class it is, is the type that won't build up in your system like taking two Tylenol would. Not sure how it works.
