Briiva had made her way to the punch bowl, sipping out of a straw that was cleverly slotted into a small hole under her helmet, to maintain the illusion that she was a metal plated walking nuclear reactor. Of course, metal plated walking nuclear reactors probably didn't drink disappointingly non-alcoholic punch, but that was a minor detail. She briefly considered livening up the punch with her own stash, but suddenly catching sight of Songtao derailed her train of thought. Adorned with ears and tails, she found the girl somewhat- distracting- in what Briiva assumed was a traditional garment, but would double check by asking about later. She made her way carefully to Songtao, doing her best to not to bump into anything with a suit that was turning out to be slightly more difficult to move in than she initially intended for it to be. "Hey! Fancy running into you here! See you made it out of that swamp unscathed!" Briiva grinned at her. She would have tried to throw in a hug, but she was still getting over the two's first meeting and Songtao's rather intense countenance at the time.

Songtao turned around to see... a talking suit of armor? An earlier appraisal of the party earlier demonstrated varying degrees of costume complexity, but this one blew the others out of the water. She wondered if she was supposed to know who was in the suit; if so, she hadn't the faintest. Briefly, she tried to discreetly peek under the helmet, but with little success. The costume itself was very impressive. The maker had even taken the time to add damage and scratch marks to what had had to have been an immaculate paint job. "I'm sorry but... I have no idea who you are?" She probably could have sounded sorrier.

Briiva paused, momentarily a loss for words until she remembered the fact that her helmet quite effectively obscured her face. Reaching up, she carefully unclasped the piece and pulled it over her head, setting it aside on the table. "Sorry about that. I know we only met briefly, but I'm Briiva." She beamed at Songtao, the lack of tone in her apology seemingly gone without notice. Briiva remembered that when they first met, she was having a hard enough time with the English language, so she wasn't about to fault her from the way Songtao sounded the words. "I love your costume! You look so noble and pretty!"

"Oh, uh," Songtao's gaze flicked away momentarily, surprised by the sincerity of Briiva's complement. "Thank you, very much. Your costume is very detailed and..." she sought a better word but ended lamely with, "Cool." She tried to make a save, "Are you a... Transformer?" But even as she said it, Songtao knew she was wrong. But she wanted to at least try.

Briiva chuckled, doing her best to hide her slight disappointment at her hard work being called a transformer, but the feeling was tossed aside just as soon as it had formed. "Well, not quite. It's from a movie, pretty freaking awesome one at that." Sucking at her straw, Briiva leaned against the table slightly. "It's been an.. uh, personal project of mine for a bit. I'm pretty much just a huge nerd." Briiva did her best to maintain just right amount of eye contact without being weird. It was a tough balance to maintain, and not helping matters was how self aware she tended to be. "So... what type of dress is that?"

"Hanfu," well, Songtao had suspected that Briiva was not Chinese, this was an easy way of confirming it. "Historical Han Chinese court attire." She brushed off invisible dust, hoping Briiva wouldn't ask which dynasty. Her choice of style was based entirely on how easy it would be to hide the belt her tails were attached to underneath. "What movie, though? I'm curious." WC: 235

"You wear it quite well!" Briiva smiled, taking a sip of her drink, pausing, then reaching to the flask on her hip (in this case cleverly hidden behind a section of foam armor plating) to make the punch actually have a kick to it. "Pacific Rim. I'm basically dressed up as a giant a** robot that fights monsters the size of skyscrapers with fists. There is a plot, but you don't really need to follow it much. Cause, you, know. Fighting monsters by punching is always cool. Not that robots would even work the way they are depicted, but that's not really the point." Briiva seemed to have noticed that she was starting to ramble halfway through her little talk, and she did her best to close it, even if she would have loved to get into the physics behind why giant robots are a terrible idea. At least bipedal robots at any rate. "Looks like you fared pretty well during our last outing debacle... I mean, mission."

"Yeah," said Songtao distantly, clearly thinking. The film sounded familiar. She didn't go to movies often, but Briiva's description coupled with her costume suddenly sparked a memory. After a moment, she brightened, "Oh! Oh, I know that movie! With the Chinese triplets in uhhh Scarlet Typhoon? And the Japanese girl with the red shoe. Directed by the guy who did Pan's Labyrinth, which was kind of surprising, to be honest."

Briiva's face lit up at Songtao's sudden recollection. "Yeah, that's the one!" She grinned, sipping more off her punch- already halfway gone at this point. "I just loved the visual effects. For both movies, actually. To be honest, I've been working on this thing since before I came here. I just love the look to the mechs." She took a moment to snag a cookie then frowned at herself. "Maybe we should not hang around the snack table indefinitely. If there's food in front of me, it's getting eaten."

"If we must," said Songtao with a bit of a laugh, "I thought that was the point of these parties? Eat food, get drunk?"

"Those are both things I'm good at doing at parties, have to admit." Briiva gave out a quiet chuckle, taking time to grab some cheese and crackers. "Though I usually do the former in order to further facilitate the latter." She nibbled at a cracker and took another generous portion of her drink. "To be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with parties like this. I'm always torn between talking to as many people as I can, or just finding a few that I can drink the night away with."

"Yeah," Songtao nodded sympathetically. "There's just... so many people here, and it's hard to know if they're really the kind of people you want to hang out with. Sure, they're all for drinking and partying, but no one wants to sit down and shoot the s**t while smoking. As if smoking is heinously awful but alcohol and promiscuity aren't." She crossed her arms over her waist, feeling discomfited, but before the moment drew out too long, she rallied. "And honestly, I thought Halloween was supposed to be, you know, scary? Unless finding out what everyone has been putting in the punch is scarier than I realized."

Briiva opened her mouth, about to go into a tirade about smoking, but managed to cut herself off before starting. After all, she was a terrible offender in the alcohol category, so who was she to judge? Also, there was the small matter of what Songtao smoked. She smirked at the woman's remark, setting her drink on the table. "I think everyone here has had enough horror's from the past couple of missions to want to do anything but relax and have a good time." Briiva's eyes flitted to the rest of the chosen, then back to Songtao. "I'll admit though, this is pretty tame so far. You would think we would have at least gotten some scary movies playing or something." She grinned over the lip of her cup, ignoring the slight buzz that had built up in the back of her thoughts. "It's a shame, cause it means I don't have anoyone to cuddle to make feel safe." Briiva knew it sounded dumb as she said it, but that didn't change the fact that she said it.
