 Charlotte MarsStudent (Sophomore)David WatsonStudent Councilor Charl knocks on the Door. Hello? The door is open, come in. Charl enters the Councilor's office & has a seat. I'm David Watson & you must be... Charlotte, right? Charl took a deep breath Yes, sir. Tell me, what's troubling you? Well, I feel like my day isn't going too well. Why's that? Some crazy stuff happened and I feel like I'm to blame & I'm not sure If I'm having a good day at all. Charl begins to cry. crying Charl, don't cry. It's not your fault. We all make mistakes sometimes. David gives Charl a box of tissues. Charl, here. Dry your eyes Charl takes a tissue out, wipes away her tears and blows her nose. Charl, you're not to blame for what happened & no one blames you for what happened either. You shouldn't be hard on yourself or feel sorry for yourself over nothing. Think happy thoughts if your feeling down. Everyone likes to see a happy face. smile Okay. But sometimes I wonder to myself what's important. Charl, just stick around & you'll find out. Everyone sometimes knows what's important. It says here you have a big brother to help you. Just be patient & things will turn out alright. Thank you, Mr. Watson. Charl, Anytime. You should run along to class now & keep your chin up. I will! Charl says this as she smiles and leaves for the Spanish classroom. Exit

Mermaid Emily stood outside of the doorway, her back to the wall. This was her first semester as a transfer student. So far, she hadn't met anyone and she kept losing her way. This place was like a maze. She heard that the school counselor would be able to help her. He was, like most of them, human. At least as far as she knew. She wasn't sure how she'd be able to keep her secret while seeking out help. A part of why she was having a hard time connecting emotionally was because she couldn't be open. The human world was so vast and interesting. She didn't want to go home with her 'tail between her legs' as the humans would say. There were humans that were dealing with her problem. So this would hopefully be a fruitful endeavor.
She took a deep breath and stepped in front of the door. She knocked on the frame. "ex...excuse me..." She muttered meekly, voice barely above a whisper and gaze glued to the floor. "Sir...? Do.. do you have a spare moment..?"

Mermaid Sheepishly, she turned the doorknob. Her heart pounded in her chest and her palms were sweaty. She always got really nervous when she was going to speak to a human. Emily stepped into the room and closed the door behind her. She raised her gaze from the floor briefly to look at the counselor. She blushed and immediately looked away. "t-this... might... have been a mistake... u-um... sir... could..." Her voice kept catching in her throat. She brought her hands together over her stomach and fixed her gaze on a filing cabinet.

Mermaid Emily flinched as she was asked why she was behaving shyly. She grabbed her arms and bit her lower lip nervously. "u-uh... uhm..." She muttered, trying to answer his question. She was so nervous that she'd forgotten her name, temporarily. "em... emily.." She managed to get out and hastily tried to follow it with her last name but only a squeaky noise came out. This was a mistake. There was no way a human would be able to help her, and how was she even going to ask for help? She couldn't remember if she had a plan or not. "s...sorry.. please, excuse... excuse me.." With that she hurriedly turned around to leave. Her hand slipped on the doorknob but she was already starting to move, so she ended up smacking her face into the door. She covered her nose with a hand and looked behind her at the human, eyes wide with embarrassment. Then finally managed to accomplish the oh-so-difficult task of opening the door. She practically ran out, set on finding a place where she could be alone so she could calm down.

Mermaid She felt a pang of guilt as the human called out to her. He really did have good intentions, and she felt guilty for showing up half-hearted. A glance around the area was enough to tell her that how loudly she'd opened the door had attracted attention. So, still holding her sore nose, she backed into the room and closed the door again. "i'm.. i'm sorry, sir.." She couldn't think of what else to say. She leaned her back against the door and looked at the ground. Long, silver locks of hair rolled over her shoulders and hung down in front of her face. Being a little bit hidden helped her to come to terms with the situation she'd created. "i'm really sorry. i forgot what i needed help with."
