The sand was hot beneath her paws as she practised the sweeping movements of an evade. The training grounds were rather sparse this time of day and soon, she too, would have to give up on training and seek some shade. The sun was steadily rising higher and she'd be burnt alive if she continued on the way she was.

One step, two step, duck and turn, she thought out the moves as she did them, moving fluidly over the sand so that hardly any was kicked up.

Side-step, jab, side-step, leap. Nuraya leapt forwards as far as her hind-legs would propel her, screwing up her face at the sand in the air, and then paused to catch her breath; panting.

Urgh, it was hot. Time to take a break.

Breathing heavily, she turned and padded across the training grounds, heading for the rocks that would provide her with some respite - so long as she moved with the shadows.

The male watched the gorgeous dark female training as he came upon the training grounds. Her fluid movements reminding him that he too needed to train and get better. It wasn't like he was terrible but he remembered when he had first joined a few months prior. He was still green behind the ears to say the least. As a soldier, he did not want to stay green. Suoh wanted to show that he was a strong male to the Firekin, worthy of upholding their name.

When she left the training ground he followed her, speaking up a hello to not startle her into any action. The grey and red male did not want to cause a fight at all. Just a friendly conversation with the gorgeous female before him. Maybe even comment on her footwork. Heck maybe she could be a sparring partner for him again. Even though he had beaten her for his second challenge he was quite sure he could not remember her name... or if she had given it to him. Then it clicked, Nuraya.

"Good morning Nuraya." Suoh spoke up, he had racked his brain and found the name to the beautiful lioness. "Great footwork. Maybe I should be training with you in the mornings." He chuckled.

Would probably be good for him anyway to get more training with another soldier. Regardless of gender at this point because all the Firekin he had ever bumped into looked tough enough to lay him out if they really wanted to.

An ear twisted in his direction and then her eyes followed, lighting up at the sound of his voice. They had met only once before but she liked his attitude. Confident. Bold. He'd make a good Firekin, she believed. They could always do with more talent. More fresh blood.

"I'm here most mornings," she declared, peering up at him through her eyelashes. "So are some of the others. I'll introduce you to them, perhaps, if you've not already met some of them." She brushed the sand with a paw to smooth it and then settled herself in the shade, still trying to catch her breath. At least out of the sun brought a sudden wave of relief. She could rest up, find water, then get back into her training regime. She was nothing if not dedicated.

"So, what rank did you decide on in the end? I hope you're settling in well. You look as if you are, anyway."

Most mornings. Well that worked for him he could be here most mornings to try and catch a glimpse of the beauty before him. Even with others who might be about he would need to get in on some training with them. Also get some bonding in with this fellow pride mates. He had debated on sitting in the shade with her and instead decided to take on the sun. It wasn't too terrible yet that he needed to get into the shade, he had not been training as she had been.

His station flowed from his lips as she asked him, "Soldier." It was something he could do. "I am strong enough to protect. Gives me a chance to prove myself too. I feel I am settling in well enough. Always need to strengthen myself." Always. Every day that he could try and work his muscles he would take it.

"Its tough out here, the sun beats you down but you just gotta get back up and withstand its harsh rays." Suoh said.

She gave him a toothy smile, raising her head higher as if to get a better look of him, or perhaps size him up - though they had already fought. "I'd have been disappointed if you'd chosen another rank - not going to pretend otherwise. We are always in need of good, new talent coming in. Besides, there is great pride in being a member of the Firekin army. You'll prove yourself in no time."

She drew in a deep breath and released it slowly, curling her tail around her. The shade was doing its work - even out here in the desert.

"The desert is a harsh mistress but she made us what we are today. She aids us in becoming strong and resilient. We're survivors because we cannot rest or become idle. A weaker pride would have perished many years ago." She blinked, clearly proud. "My mother is brigadier of the army and my grandparents once ruled this land and led a revolution. My blood is stronger than most...or so I like to think. We must strive to be strong else risk being knocked into the sand."

She sobered a little, "the old families of the Firekin have been through much hardship."

There was a brother who had lived and died before she had even been born. His death had brought much heartache and, in a way, she mourned him even though she had never set eye upon him or heard him speak.

He like that she approved of the rank he had decided to choose. Soldiers. They were tough. "I thought being more brawn was better than being a guard." He admitted. Of course he'd prove himself out here. The desert would make or break him really.

"I am sorry." He did not want to take pity on her, but to only give him condolences to her about what happened. Though it was probably long enough that he figured that she would shrug off his words more than anything else. "The desert provides what she can and teaches us valuable lessons." He would remind himself of that every day.

The heat getting to him he decided to take a bit of shelter under some shade as well. Still keeping an eye on the female. "After training what do you do?" Curious as to what her daily routine might be. He wanted to try and segway into something that would allow him to join her more often.

She grinned, shifting her weight a little to make room for him in the shade. "The guards would not agree with you, but I would. There might be something of a rivalry between our two factions."

She waved away his apology, "others have suffered far more than I have. To be honest with you, I feel like I've been born in a rather privileged time. Is it odd to say that I want to face some hardship that I can strive to overcome? I hoped the Nergui would come to something, but that seems to have fizzled out like a puddle beneath the desert sun."

After training?

"Socialising, mostly. I like to get to know my comrades and the young apprentices - when we have any. Besides, it can't be all work and no fun. There has to be some downtime." She eyed him curiously, "I know some ladies who would love to meet you. Buuuut, perhaps I'll keep you to myself -- for now, at least."

Nuraya was not shy in the slightest and males not related to her were slim pickings these days.

"Were you part of a pride before you came here?"

The male chuckled, the sound a low and hearty rumble. "I think I too would agree that this faction is better." At the mention of Nergui he made a small sound. He had met with some Nergui when he had been travelling towards the pride. They didn't seem too terrible but he hadn't spent that much time with the pair. He hadn't at first known who they were or what the Horde was but had learned while he was here a little more about them. "I didn't realize they were Nergui at the time but I've paid attention since I have been here. They didn't seem to be much of a threat. Wanted me to join them but I had already other ideas."

Suoh listened to her. Downtime. He had already figured out his downtime. He really needed to get some orders or something. Other than his training and learning everything. He felt like a cub. At the mention of ladies he almost perked up but kept it hidden. More surprised by her wanting to keep him for herself. "Bold words there Nuraya."

He liked her boldness, it was welcoming. To feel wanted by a female. He had a few females he had eyed within the pride but he had not approached many yet. Her next question brought up some memories.

"I was from the Pridelands at one point but decided to leave and became a rogue. But this is my home now."

Her eyes widened, hardly believing what he had said. He had met Nergui and survived the encounter? She didn't even think that was a possibility for a lion who wandered alone. "They...wanted to join and then just...let you go? That's not the stories I've heard about them. I thought they'd kill you or enslave you at the very least. Was there a struggle? Did you fight them?"

But he'd just said they hadn't been a threat, which suggested otherwise.

She laughed, pulling herself to her paws and moving around as if trying to get a decent look at him. "I've always been bold. It got me into trouble on occasion growing up but I'd say it was more of an asset than a hindrance. A shy Firekin doesn't make a name for herself, after all. My fire burns brightly and I wouldn't want it any other way."

She grinned, "I think you were made for the Firekin but that's just my personal opinion."

Nuraya nudged him with a paw, "but you better watch out. I've got my sights set on you and I'm rather stubborn when I went to be."

For a moment, she glanced around, and then motioned him to follow her, "come, let's get some water, then I can show you some common training drills to pass the time."

"Yeah these ones just let me go. I was looking at some trinkets but there wasn't really anything that had completely caught my eye." it seemed so long ago now and he hadn't really thought of it. "Maybe they weren't from the Nergui?" He wasn't sure. Suoh had never actually asked where they were form or pressed the issue with them.

He liked her a little more with each passing moment. "I should take a page out of your book." the male chuckled. He was still a bit shy but each day he felt more and more confident in himself. "I don't think you have any competition." It was the honest truth. For now he was a single male being able to do single male things.

He followed after her. Any time with a beautiful female firekin he would take it.

"Hm," Nuraya replied, "either way, don't forget the meeting. You never know. It might come in handy later on down the line. Some Firekin still fancy that we'll be taking them out now that we have new leaders." She wasn't entirely convinced by it, but she was more than happy to do just that if it was asked of her.

She threw him a wide smile, laughing. "You do just that."

And flicking her tail at him, she hastened her pace, feeling like a cub again.
