Leon dreaded going back to his cell. It had been that way ever since the alchemists had claimed him at the end of his first year. When Pike first made arrangements to make sure that Leon shared a cell with him, even the naive fairy had known that it was just another sentence. He was always simply changing hands, being passed from the shadow of one alchemist to the next until he wound up right back in his cell with Pike. The ringleader of the alchemists was possessive and cruel, but tactful. Leon could count the number of times Pike had used force on him on one hand. Mostly he had those below him doling out whatever punishments or experiments he deemed necessary. But sharing a small space with the man had frayed Leons nerves, kept him on eggshells constantly, trying to figure out what the right moves to make were, which things to say to avoid retribution later. He'd never had a restful moment in the cell. Hell, the only times he felt even remotely peaceful were the times he was at his job, and even then he was flanked by alchemists. But there, at least, he was in his element, and he had some illusion of control. In the library Leon managed his small bits of freedom, able to speak with other inmates privately for legal counsel. Granted, it was fairly frequent that inmates coming to seek said counsel were actually there trading favors with the fairy, Leon sneaking small things behind the alchemists backs. And now, it seemed, he would need to keep his secrets from Odin. The werewolf had explicitly forbidden any substance abuse, just as Pike had recently. The difference was that, sooner or later, Pike would have let off and given Leon what he needed. But Leon hadn't been able to wait. He'd already arranged another transaction, but it took a while for non-alchemists to get their hands on anything worthwhile. But the lawyer didn't need something worthwhile, he just needed something. So he simply had to wait. He'd thought that, maybe, getting Pike transferred to a different cell would make his life a little easier. With a non-alchemist cellmate, Leon would be more free to conduct his transactions through the guards at night as well, and maybe he could finally get a little peace and quiet. Instead, ******** Ross had marched a six foot tall ghoul into his cell and called them even. Sure, he didn't need to worry about the stranger named Mallory interfering with his personal transactions and ploys to get his hands on whatever drugs he could, but the fairy was instead stuck wondering when the ghouls hunger would get the best of him. So his quiet rest had eluded him.
Leon would be the first to admit that he knew embarrassingly little about Mallory Wolfenkohler. Even as he stood near him for the count as guards clickclicked their way down the rows with their numbers, his cellmate was a stranger. They had hardly spoken since Mallory had transferred to his cell. The ghoul had never questioned the fairy about it, whether because he suspected Leon didn't know the reason, or because he wasn't interested, the lawyer was never certain. He'd seen him here and there, a fairly recent addition to their prison system, having apparently been some kind of big shot weapons and humanoid trafficker on the outside working for one of the up and coming gangs. A behemoth of a man, covered in scars with a prominent one square across the center of his face. TwoFace. That was what he heard some of his circle call him here and there. The alchemists occasionally did deals with the ghoul ring here and there. Mostly they were rivals, but sometimes they benefited mutually by trading supplies with one another. But that was about the extent of their relationship, each group otherwise trying to undercut the other at every turn. So Leons awkward, silent relationship with the towering gangster had been shaky at best before then. Now, with news of his change in ownership no doubt spreading rapidly through the prison complex, he wondered if it would make Mallory less likely to eat him, or more. It didn't help that he could never guess what the ghoul was thinking. Granted, Leon could hardly ever tell what anyone was thinking. People, it seemed, were a mystery to the fairy.
The rest of the afternoon had gone on fairly normal, although walking without the constant loom of the alchemists was both invigorating and frightening. Leon suddenly realized how much less protection he was getting under Odin. Odin was a single man, even if he was a werewolf. Where the alchemists had been able to flank him at every turn, Odin couldn't be everywhere at once. He was suddenly reminded of the lycans cornering him years ago. Yet another reason he may soon have no choice but to use his dust again. If someone thought his new position was questionable, that he, as a source, might be moved, taken yet again... Leon had been glancing over his shoulder a lot more than usual that day, as much as he tried to appear calm. The anxieties followed him back into his cell, again abrupt with the awkward silence (well, awkward on his end, at least, Leon couldn't tell if anything bothered Mallory) and had chewed at him in the night. He shivered and picked and chewed and tossed, sweating and aching and needing release so badly, like always. But surely Maddock would come through soon. Then everything would be okay for a moment. He was going to be in the library again tomorrow, and if Maddock had finally gotten his hands on something Leon could get his fix. And he would, dammit, no matter what some pushy werewolf said. No matter what Pike said. ******** both of them. So after his usual fitful tossing and turning, some time in the night Leon finally managed to drift into a fitful doze.
Sometime later in the night, someone was shaking him. "Wake up, Snowflake." Leon blinked groggily, rubbing his eye and rolling over to face the man talking to him, standing at the head of the bunks. He was fairly used to Pike waking him for asinine reasons in the middle of the night. Sometimes it was for business, sometimes it was with questions, and sometimes, Leon was sure, he did it just to show that he could, and Leo had no choice but to deal with it. "Nnh... Pike? What is it...? He reached up to rub at his eye again when he was distracted by something strange. A dark black ink blot against his wrist. He squinted, and suddenly the events of the day came rushing back to him. He wasn't with the alchemists anymore. He didn't share a cell with Pike anymore. Yet, as the fairy frantically looked up again, Pike was there, stern expression and stern tone, even as his voice was lowered. "Come down." And his face left no room for argument. So, stomach lined with dread, Leon carefully shifted his legs over the tide of the top bunk and he quietly slipped down, trying not to rouse Mallory, who seemed to be asleep behind him. Pike casually draped an arm around Leons shoulders, guiding him away from the bunks and towards the back of the cell. It was a friendly gesture, but with Pike, friendly gestures were always bad signs. The fairy glanced frantically towards the open cell door, and in the dim lighting managed to make out the portly figure of a guard with his back to them, purposefully not looking in. Ross. That ********. Pike spoke in his low voice deceptively casual. Leon had been around his old cellmate long enough to know that the casual tone was also a marker for disaster. "You know, I'm sure I mentioned to you before how distressed I was when they moved me. Didn't I?" Leon swallowed hard, and nodded. "Right, right. I figured it must have been some kind of mix-up. But then, you know, I started thinking this was the ghouls' idea, you know? I thought maybe they were trying to take our product out from under us. I got real worried for your safety, Snowflake. I was over here making plans to practically go to war for you, you know? You were gonna be my Helen of Troy, all that. Anyways s'not what I wanted to talk to you about. 'Coz, see, I've got kind of a different idea now." Oh hell. Leo didn't like where this was going. But Pike had him trapped against him, the wall behind him and Pikes body between him and the door. "But I wanted to discuss it with you, 'coz I know you. We're civil, you an' me. I wanted to talk it over with you earlier but, well, I'm not a fan of having my wrist broken." Leons stomach dropped and his eyes were glued to the floor. "So I'll just be blunt with my accusations here, Snowy. I think you set this up." Leons eyes went wide and he snapped his gaze up to the alchemists face, bringing up his hands in front of him. "W-what!? No! No, I-I didn't, I-" "Aah, pup pup, shush." Pike pushed a finger to Leons lips. "See, I'd expect you to say that. But, c'mon, you know me. You really think I'd overlook it as a coincidence? You get a 'new cellmate' out of nowhere, no warning, and then today, out of the blue, wolfface suddenly has an interest in you? I don't buy it. And, frankly, I'm kind of offended you'd think I would." And Leo could see the malice in Pikes eyes, even in the dim light. Pike didn't like having things taken from him, and he certainly didn't like people trying to trick him. He'd gotten the entirely wrong idea, but the fairy knew that nothing he could say now would convince him otherwise. Fearful and growing desperate, Leon glanced back and fourth. "I-I.... I'll scream." But Leon knew that screaming wasn't a good idea. Even if it would force Ross to alert the other guards, by the time anything could be done to eject Pike from his cell, any damage he wanted to inflict would be done, probably twofold. And Pike knew that Leon knew, because he grinned when the fairy said it. "Turn around. Put your hands on the wall." Leon drew his hands up against his chest and whispered, "W-why?" "Do it." And, shivering, Odin and Julian nowhere in sight - why would they be? - Leon slowly turned around, and felt Pike roughly yanking down the back of his shirt by the collar, exposing his back. Pike wrapped the excess around Leons arms, still trapped in the sleeves, and pushed the fairys face against the wall. Leon whimpered, and quietly whispered, desperate, "P-Pike, please, y-you have to believe me, i-it wasn't my idea!" "Start counting backwards from one hundred." That was when Leon felt something cold and hard press against his back. Metal. A blade. Pressing against the joint of his top right wing.
Pike was going to sheer off one of his wing segments. "NO!" Leon actually shouted aloud, but the moment he did Pike clasped his free hand over Leons mouth and hissed into his ear, "I've gotten sick of you trying to ******** me over, Snowflake. I wonder how much your dog likes playing with a broken toy?" And he felt the pressure increase, could feel blood welling up from the cut, still shallow and thin. Tears started streaming down his cheeks as he squirmed under Pikes grasp. All of his pleas were muffled against the alchemists palm, but he begged nonetheless, saying 'please, don't, no, anything but that! I'm sorry I'm sorry please I'll do anything please no-!' But Pike wasn't listening to his muffled cries. "Maybe it would be a good reminder not to try and ******** me over, hm?"
And Leon was so wrought with panic and fear, and Pike so caught up in his own power in the moment, neither of them noticed the stirring from the bottom bunk of the cell.
[[ooc; Waaah, finally! Sorry it took forever. TvT Pike is a powerhungry a*****e who can't fight, so feel free to use him in your post however you like/need!]]

In the time he had been in the prison, he’d mostly kept to himself other than the few ghouls that he’d been incarcerated with. He wasn’t sure why he’d been switched cells a mere week after he’d been put in there. Mallory hadn’t even settled in completely. But he was such a laid back guy, he didn’t mind. To keep the company of ghouls constantly was a little annoying. He didn’t much enjoy talking about devouring people just for crossing them. It was a joke to most ghouls. But to Mallory, it was annoying. He found his hunger to be more of a hinderance than a blessing. Sure, he was strong, but that was due to better genes, not due to being a ghoul. There was nothing in the handbook that said ghouls had to be 6’4” and over two hundred pounds. He had just lucked out. Hell, even his little brother was tall, just not bulky. Damn, sometimes he missed that little ball of crazy..
His first impression of his little cellmate was that he was far too frail, and slightly sickly - well, maybe more than slightly. He was obviously a drug whore of sorts and only ******** around with the alchemists from what he could see. So he had no interest in him, really. Even though he was a bigger player in Crownless, moving most of their slaves and a good deal of their weapons, he prefered to keep to himself in prison. He just wanted to wait out his sentence and go the ******** home. Maybe recruit a few kids that had nothing better to do, or that owed him. But so far, he was just wading through the days, biding his time.
It didn’t take long for word to travel to his ears that his cellmate had effectively snubbed the alchemists in the yard. Sided with some werewolf and another puny mage of sorts. That wouldn’t be good for the tiny druggy. The werewolf might provide some sort of protection, but he was only one person, and disappeared for a good amount of time each month and was promptly out of commision afterwards. Werewolves were trump cards, and one which Leon had played too soon. Too bad for him.
The ghoul hadn’t thought much more of it until he was roused from his sleep in the middle of the ******** night. As laid back as he was, that s**t was annoying. Gold eyes snapped open, locking on the intruder who had the poor fairy in an inescapable hold. He had missed the beginning of their quiet conversation, but as soon as the fairy had began begging and crying, he was awake. Not only was he annoyed that he’d been awoken, he was straight up pissed that some other ******** prisoner thought that they could just waltz in his cell and do whatever the ******** they wanted.
He didn’t make a sound as he pushed himself from the mattress, striding towards them with the silent steps of a ghost. His arm slung around the intruder’s neck, while the other reached around and grabbed his wrist, pulling the hand that was holding the knife to Leon’s back away. “I’m wondering why you’re in my cell at three in the morning, friend. I think you’re lost.” He whispered in the man’s ear, his voice still deep and sleepy from not being awake for long. His arm tightened around the man’s throat, choking the air out of him, literally leaning back until he was lifting him off the ground by the head. “Alchemists are so frail. Nothing more than a human with a little extra. You’re useless except to enchant my weapons.” He held him in the air until the guy was turning colors and finally released the knife he was holding.
The mammoth of a ghoul twisted his body, tossing the man like a ragdoll across the cell his body landing against the wall, his head smacking it with a sickening slap. He wasn’t done though. Pike would feel his wrath, for waking him, for intruding on his space, for assaulting his frail cellmate right in front of him. The ghoul ghosted across the cell after him, menacingly quiet. He grabbed hold of the alchemist’s entire face with one large hand and slammed the man’s head against the cement wall again, busting it open in the back. “I think you should find your way back to your cell, lost little alchemist. Or you might be my next snack.” He grinned at him in the dim lighting, shark like teeth shining. Honestly, he wasn’t sure if the guy was even still comprehending what was coming out of his mouth, since he was sure he slammed his head - twice - hard enough to make his world spin if not black out.
He figured it was a good enough scare to suffice releasing him back into the general public. He doubted that pike would so nonchalantly stroll into his humble abode again. So Mallory none too kindly hauled the bleeding alchemist to his feet and shoved him out of the cell, to which the man fell on his face - much to the ghoul’s satisfaction.
Mallory turned his attention to the his tiny cellmate, looking him over with an unreadable expression. He promptly moved to help him readjust his shirt so he would be free to move about again. “Stop crying. You’re fine.” He mumbled, as if it was supposed to be reassuring. The ghoul might’ve been a secret, giant teddy bear in bed - but he sucked at comforting people with words. It was not his strong suit. ”Your name is Leon, correct? You want to tell me why I have alchemist leaders in my cell trying to cut off your wings?”

Leon hadn't been threatened in quite some time. At least not to this extent. Sure, the alchemists had exacted pain and suffering from him in careful, measured doses. But it had always been controlled, and no one outside of their circle ever dared encroach. As the fairys mind reeled, he immediately thought about dusting Pike. But there were two small problems with that. First off was the timing. As he had mentioned to Julian in the yard, he would only have one good shot, since he would undoubtedly be thrown in iso when he was caught for it. And no matter where or when Leon did it, the agonizing wails were certain to draw the guards full attention. It was no quiet knife to draw in the shadows, silent and unseen. The dust was a social atomic bomb, and it would ignite the prisons atmosphere in bold red letters, and what message they spelled would depend on who had been dusted, when, and why. The message Pikes dusting at that moment would be doom, for their little trio. It would mean taking Leon out of commission immediately after Odin had claimed him, for who knew how long. And how close was it to the full moon anyway? Leo had never thought to keep up with it before. If he was still in isolation then, it would leave Julian all alone. There were countless reasons the fairy couldn't loose that bomb just yet. The second immediate reason and, admittedly, the one selfishly at the forefront of Leons mind, was his wings. In order to spread the dust, he had to spread his wings. And he was loathe to un-meld them from his back with a knife pressed against them. Melded, Pike and his blade would have more trouble, but unfurled it would be nothing more than a quick 'pop' of thumb and metal (or glass or whatever he was using) and then bam. One flightless fairy. Forever. A severed wing wasn't something easily repaired, and even if they could stitch it back on it would likely never be capable of flight again. Not that he'd flown in years. But all of that was beside the point. All of this flashed through Leons mind in the moment of feeling Pikes sharp biting into the tender skin just above his wing, the heat of his breath on his ear and the pressure of his hand over his mouth. He squeezed his eyes shut, hot tears still streaming down his cheeks, but suddenly the pressure was gone, and so was Pikes breath and his hand. His sorrow and despair was interrupted by an almost foreign voice. ”I’m wondering why you’re in my cell at three in the morning, friend. I think you’re lost.”
Suddenly Leon was free from Pikes shadow. Immediately he spun his body around, pressing his back against the wall, his wings feeling immediately safer against the painted stone behind him. And there in front of him was Pike, feet off the ground and gasping for air like a fish on a boardwalk. Pike was only an alchemist, sure, but he'd been in prison for years. He was burly, built, not exactly a small statured man by nature, either. Yet there he was, help up by the throat effortlessly by the behemoth of a ghoul. It was a terrifying sight. Leon watched what he was beginning to believe was Pikes final moments. Even in the dim lighting he could tell that his skin wasn't supposed to be that color, his throat wasn't supposed to make sounds like that. He watched the makeshift weapon clatter from his hand onto the floor. Outside, Ross almost gave a half turn, but went back to staring straight ahead. He knew it was in his best interest to stay disinterested, unless Mallory actually did kill him. With a sudden snap, the ghoul turned. Leon flinched at the sickening sound of the alchemists body striking the wall with such violent force, the cold stone entirely unyielding as Pikes body ragdolled against it, the short gasp that escaped his lips a mere byproduct of the wind being pushed out of his lungs. And even as the alchemist tried to get his head on straight again, unable even to stand yet, the ghoul slid across the cell like a shadow, so easily grabbing the man once again about the head. There was a loud crack, and Leon winced again, at the sound and this time at the sight, his former ringmasters head being split against the stone. s**t. He was dead. He had to be. The ghoul had killed him. After the horrible hissed threat of Leons dreaded fear - you might become my next snack - Mallory stood, dragging Pike along and casually tossing him outside their cell the way one might toss out the trash before heading off to bed. The alchemist wasn't capable of catching himself on his own two feet, instead colliding limply at the floor near Ross' feet, causing the portly guard to jolt. Leon watched as Pike tried to peel himself up off of the floor, with little success. The guard simply hurried about locking their cell door again before yanking the alchemist up none too kindly and hurrying the man back off to his cell, likely eager to return him to his proper place before his superiors noticed that something was amiss. And just like that, everything was back to normal, as much as normal could be in that cold prison cell. Just a grumpy ghoul and a bleeding fairy locked in a small space together. No big deal.
Leon flinched as his cellmate approached him, suddenly keenly aware of how easily he could snap Leon in half when the fairy was half the size of the man he'd just tossed around like a college student with a hackeysack. When Mallory reached towards him he couldn't help but whimper, squeezing his eyes shut and bracing himself for the pain, whether he was being grabbed or yanked by the hair or hit... but instead, the big hands merely tugged at the shirt tangled around his arms, freeing them again. “Stop crying. You’re fine.” The fairy sniffed, immediately swiping at his face to try and stifle the tears he hadn't even realized he was still crying. But of course, like always, they wouldn't stop when he wanted them to. ”Your name is Leon, correct? You want to tell me why I have alchemist leaders in my cell trying to cut off your wings?” ********. He was still angry. He was pissed that he'd been woken up and it was Leons fault Pike was in there. He was going to rip him apart so that he could get a quieter cellmate instead. One who didn't attract unwanted guests in the middle of the night. Weakly he nodded. "I-I... I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I didn't think he'd come in here, I...." And he couldn't hold Mallorys gaze, dropping his eyes down and hugging his shirt back onto his shoulders, shivering. He reached a bare hand under the fabric and fingered at the wound anxiously. Was the smell of blood going to make Mallory hungry? Make him want to eat him? But when he pulled his hand away and glanced down, it wasn't covered in blood like he thought it would be, just a smear on his fingertips. It seemed the cut was much more shallow than it had felt. That was a relief, at least. Or it would have been, if there wasn't a disgruntled ghoul asking him why. "H-he.... Pike, he thought... thought it was my idea to hitch up with Julian and Odin. Because of the cell switch, with you. He must have found out that I'm the one who got the transfer put through. Ugh, ******** Ross..." He leaned his back against the wall again, his knees feeling weak. But eve so he slid down into a sitting position, glancing up at the ghoul towering before him, feeling utterly powerless. At least it was what he was used to. He shuddered again. "I-I'm sorry he got in. I'm sure he won't try it again, so.... He swallowed hard "S-so please don't eat me." Honestly, a few nights ago he would have been more likely to just beg him 'please make it quick I don't like suffering.' But he had to think about Julian now, and Odin too. They were counting on him as well.
A short scream startled him, causing Leon to jolt in startled panic. It was cut off quickly, and here and there down the hall there were some frustrated noises in response, but it had sounded close. And, strangely, Leon was sure it hadn't come from him this time. Julian...? The fairy tried to stand up, putting his hand against the wall behind him, but as he did he staggered, nearly losing his balance. He took a deep breath, straining to hear, but catching no further sounds. Then he remembered that he had bigger fish to fry. Like the ghoul interrogating him. Right, he was in the middle of trying to convince him not to eat him. Nervously he returned his gaze to his cellmate. "I... I don't know what I can offer you. O-Odin..." He floundered for the right turn of phrase. 'Owns me?' "I-I owe him first. But... but I'll make it up to you however I can, I promise. I'll do whatever you want. So please..." Even if he had still wanted to die, he really really really didn't want to be eaten.

Mallory expected something a little different than what the flubbering fairy was telling him. He already knew everything he was telling him. Except that it was, in fact, his roommate that got the cell switch arranged. Huh. Well that was interesting. The ghoul wondered what the fairy had traded in return for that cell switch, as he was pretty sure it wouldn’t have been easy to just up and move two prisoners without anyone noticing. Leon must’ve been a secret little slut to get that arranged, because he already knew by looking at the smaller man that he wouldn’t be sharing his stash of drugs for anything any time soon.
But as he continued to let the fairy stumble over himself, a frown formed on his face. Eat him? What stupid little guy. Mallory was not like other ravenous ghouls. He’d been taught hunger at a young age, and so he would not bloodrage quite as quickly as a normal ghoul. In fact, he was usually in a constant state of hunger, but it didn’t bother him at all.
”I have no interest in eating you, fairy.” He said with a little bit of contempt. But how was Leon to know that Mallory was not like other ghouls? He had to cut the guy some slack. ”You don’t owe me s**t.” He finally replied, rubbing the back of his head. ”I doubt there’s anything you have to offer, that I’d want anyways.” It was true. What could Leon offer that he couldn’t already get himself? He could get drugs. He didn’t need money. About the only thing he could offer was his body, and that was just a little too skeevy for him. Unlike most criminals, he enjoyed the other person wanting to have sex with him too. Who the ******** wants to rape someone and have them making a big scene?
He all but ignored the scream, not really caring what was going on outside their cell. But it seemed the fairy was curious. Though, he would do no good to anyone, being so frightened he could barely stand. Or the fact that they were locked in. It didn’t matter who was screaming because no help would come from them at all. ”You need to calm down.” He finally said with a sigh, literally picking the fairy up underneath the arms and hoisting him back up to a sitting position in his bunk. ”I don’t think your little friend is going to come back to visit.” He mused, looking up to Leon in his bunk. ”But you might want to watch your back in the yard. I guess if you want, you can sit with me. I’ve been rather bored. The group I was with has separate yard time, so I don’t see them.”
Did he really just offer to protect Leon? In a roundabout way, he did. He was bored of the nothingness he encountered day in and day out. And, honestly he wasn’t scared of a little group of alchemists. Plus, his cellmate was cute, though helpless. Perhaps he could squeeze some sort of fun out of him.
ooc ;; oh man, sorry this is so short. Leon totally doesn't have to heed Mallory's advice and go to bed. he can totally bug him, if you want to keep the night rolling~

The ghoul looming over him was just about the most terrifying thing Leon could think of. At least in that moment. He was exactly the image of 'horrifying prison inmate' that he'd always dreaded. But he'd been in prison for years, and he knew better now. As scary as Mallory may have looked, the ones to be afraid of were people like Pike, who ran rings and controlled other inmates, and like Hotts. Even though Mallory was gigantic, muscular, and covered in scars, it didn't mean that he was the one Leon needed to fear. Logically, he knew that. But his body told him that he was a rabbit under the gaze of a hawk, and that his only chance was to cower. As his brain debated with his instincts, Mallory said the words that sent a wave of relief rushing through him.
”I have no interest in eating you, fairy.” In spite of himself, he let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. Even though he would remain suspicious, it did fell nice just to hear it said. He didn't want to eat him. All at once Leon felt incredibly foolish, the way Mallory said it as if the very idea were ridiculous, as if it were obvious. He couldn't help but flush a little, looking down and away. It seemed he'd simply let his childhood fears get the best of him. Maybe the whole thing about flesh-eaters being particularly fond of fairies was just some silly myth? He hugged one arm around himself, fidgeting, as Mallory continued, telling him he didn't owe him anything. ”I doubt there’s anything you have to offer, that I’d want anyways.” And Leon had the presence of mind not to scoff, at least. Sure, he didn't owe him anything now because, like the ghoul said, he didn't have anything to offer. He supposed Mallory either wasn't interested in his dust, or, like Odin, he simply hadn't been in long enough to have foreknowledge of exactly what it was and what it could do. But regardless he knew that, sooner or later, Mallory was bound to want to call in some sort of favor in exchange for saving him from Pike. He was grateful, certainly, but this small act of kindness did nothing to make Leon trust the ghoul. Hell, he could hardly bring himself to trust Julian, whom he'd known for years. He did, though, despite his better judgement. Despite the fact that everything he'd gone through told him not to. His trust in Julian was tenuous and cautious. He'd already gambled everything on him, and on Odin. But if Pikes invasion had proven anything, it was that Odins threat alone wasn't going to be enough to protect him. Would he need to dust someone to save his own hide? Would he be able to hold off until the timing was right? Mallory may have discouraged Pike from entering his cell again, but there were plenty of other times that Leon was going to vulnerable now. All the places where the alchemists had once shadowed him were now places where he could be made a target. How long could he hold out before loosing that bomb? As these thoughts whirled through his head at a thousand miles per hour, a cool voice cut through them. ”You need to calm down.” "Wah-!?" Leon jolted, freezing up at the sudden feeling on the ghouls hands on him, immediately fearing the worst. Just a moment ago he'd had hands pushing him down, clamping over his mouth. The sudden touch sent a shiver of fear through him, expecting more pain, but none came. Instead Mallory plucked him up off of the ground beneath his arms as if he were a child (which, based on the difference in their sizes, he may as well have been) and easily moved him, placing the fairy back on his own bunk as if he were placing a doll on a shelf. ”I don’t think your little friend is going to come back to visit.” Wrapping his arms around himself again, Leo nodded in agreement. Pike was very unaccustomed to physical confrontation, preferring instead to control his chess pieces from a distance, letting pawns do the dirty work. Even when it came to handling Leon, whom Pike could easily overpower, he tended to let other alchemists handle it, unless he was particularly pissed about something himself. Pike would almost definitely try something again, but he would definitely be taking a step back before trying another move. Mallory, obviously, had not been in the alchemists calculations. To be fair, he hadn't been in Leons, either. ”But you might want to watch your back in the yard. I guess if you want, you can sit with me. I’ve been rather bored. The group I was with has separate yard time, so I don’t see them.”
At that, the fairy blinked. Again it was said in such a casual tone, just like Julian had done in the yard. 'You can come sit with us', such a casual offer that, in this place, meant a thousand different things. And surely Mallory must have known that. So what was his angle? Did he think the fairy was going to abandon Odins protection for his? Or did he have ties to the ghoul circle which competed with the alchemists in producing illegal substances? Was this some kind of political move, or was Mallory the type who simply did whatever suited him in the moment, because he was big enough, strong enough, and scary enough to get away with it? He said 'I've been rather bored.' So Leon was leaning towards that last one. Was the ghoul hoping someone would pick a fight with him over it? If that really was his only motivation, amusement, Leon would really benefit from accepting his offer. Odin could only do so much. Odin couldn't defend him in places like this, where Pike was sneaky. With the situation having been handled so effortlessly by Mallory, it might not even be necessary for Odin to seek retribution for having his toes stepped on. After all, Pike already had a crack in his skull for it. He eyed the ghoul warily, only just barely taller than Mallory even sitting on the top bunk. The truth was that Leon needed every bit of help he could get. But he knew that nothing came for free, no matter how much the ghoul claimed otherwise. He cast his gold eyes downward in contemplation. He needed his help. So did Julian. So did Odin. He may have been acting on his own, exactly like Odin told him not to, but this was a good opportunity. If he could accept Mallorys help, it would make all of their lives easier. No one wanted to mess with Odin, and no one wanted to mess with Mallory. The oversized ghoul would be a valuable asset. The singular issue was the other shoe dropping. Leon knew he'd want something, sooner or later.
He only had two things to offer. "I... yes." He fumbled, unsure exactly how to proceed, how to ask Mallory for more than what he was offering "I mean... thank you. For saving me from Pike, and... for the offer. I guess you know I've pissed off the Alchemist Circle, so... I need all the help I can get." he was looking down, sheepish, but he made himself lift his eyes to Mallorys again. "But, it's not just me. Um, my... friends, Julian and Odin, they need help too. They've gotten into trouble because of me, too. If you could help me, help us..." He squirmed, uncomfortable. He wasn't used to striking out on his own like this, being so bold. He was already directly defying Odin, and he hadn't been working for him for even a full twenty-four hours. "It's not much, but I can give you my dust." Mallory hadn't been in prison very long at all, even newer than Odin and Julian. If he really didn't have anything to do with the ring of ghouls who peddled substances, it was likely that, like Odin, Mallory had no idea what his dust could do. "It's a nerve substance. In small doses it makes for a really powerful aphrodisiac. It's been used as a kind of currency in here for the past few years, so even if you don't want to use it yourself, it's useful to trade. And I can also..." and at this he looked away again. It had become quietly understood amongst the prisoners who had been in for a while exactly what kind of favors Leon was willing to trade when he wanted something, so when these sorts of transactions were being offered, it could all be communicated quietly, with simple, small gestures and subtle changes in expression or tone. So the fairy wasn't used to having to say it out loud. Hell, the ghoul probably wasn't even interested, he'd even said himself Leon didn't have anything he wanted. Maybe he was straight, or maybe he already had someone else he was getting that from, who knew. But, if it would help strengthen his case at all, his value in bartering protection and aid for himself and the others, he needed to at least make the offer. He blushed, casting his eyes away again. Mallory was certainly... a larger body type than he'd dealt with before. In prison he'd largely only sought out others close to his own size. In fact, now that he thought about it, Mallorys burly frame kind of reminded him of someone else... immediately his entire face reddened, and he hoped the ghoul couldn't see it in the dim light. He coughed lightly. "...h-help you in other ways." And god, he hoped Mallory didn't make him spell it out. While it was true that the ghoul was intimidating, it was also true that Leon did tend towards... a type. Which Mallory did happen to fall into. Leo simply considered it a lucky break on his part. Well, if the ghoul was even interested which, the fairy reminded himself again, he was likely not. Still, having made the offer, he squirmed a little again, embarrassed at himself for being so blatant.

Mallory hadn’t expected such a quick reply. But it was clear as Leon went on that he was out of cards. Out of options. He was more than a little scared of the consequences he’d made for himself by openly snuffing the alchemists in public. Even Mallory was surprised that such a little fairy had the audacity to do such a thing. It took a lot of guts to take all your apples out of one cruel basket and put them in another blindly on nothing more than hope that it would all work out for the best. Same with what he was currently doing. Sure, the ghoul really did mean the offer, but what if he hadn’t? It’d been all too easy to sway him. Nothing but a little kindness.
”Only if you tell me why, after years, you’ve defied Pike? If I’m going to protect you and your little friends, I want to know why I’m sticking my neck out for you.” The ghoul took a step closer, resting his hands on the bed on either side of the fairy’s hips, trapping him in. But his facial expressions didn’t change to something upset in nature, in fact he was grinning. In a way, he admired the way that the fairy was trying to move throughout the system. Though he had never been to prison, he was well aware of the links between groups that made up the hierarchy. If he wanted, he could’ve taken over the ghouls that we competing with the alchemists. But he didn’t want that. He wanted to get the ******** out of prison, not inadvertently add more time onto himself. Mallory didn’t care to be a high roller in prison, when he was a high roller outside of prison which counted for so much more. The ghoul had squashed many ‘Pikes’ outside of the pen.
At the offerance of Leon’s dust, he raised an eyebrow as his grin spread wider. An aphrodisiac, huh? What the ******** could he use an aphrodisiac for in prison other than ********? But he did say in small doses. Which posed the question of what happened in big doses? ”Well the next time I’m ******** I’ll hit you up for some. What does it do in large doses? I imagine there’s a reason you didn’t tell me, eh?” The ghoul was smart. He’d been in a position of power for a very long time. Exploiting and using others abilities was just part of the job. ”You did well, making a friend with me. But I am ruthless, and much more intelligent than your little friend. I hold power outside of this cage of concrete.”
But then the fairy went on to offer him, other things.. Literally. Mallory fought the urge not to laugh ridiculously hard at the comment. So his cellmate did offer his body for what he wanted. That was certainly the way he got the cells switched around since he didn’t see a guard needing an aphrodisiac for anything. ”You’re afraid I’m going to eat you, yet you’re willing to strip down and be completely vulnerable to me?” How cute, his little slut of a cellmate was plucking at the ghoul’s heartstrings looking so embarrassed and adorable. Unfortunately, Mallory had a type as well, and Leon looked every bit the part. Small, frail, bashful but sinful. He could practically smell the sin dripping off the fairy. ”Unless I’m thinking of something different, hm?” He teased, knowing he was 100% correct about what Leon was offering, but he’d never initiate it. Or would he? The ghoul leaned in, laying his head in the fairy’s lap for a moment while his arms wrapped around his waist in a space-invasive hug. With a grin, his mouth opened, and he went for the fairy’s hand - most certainly intimidating. But when contact was made, he didn’t bite him. Instead, he drug a warm tongue along the soft skin, sucking the fairy's index finger into his mouth and coating it in his tingling saliva. Then he released him with an evil little smirk, like a child getting away with stealing candy. Because he was that child - stealing candy.

Leon was still turning over all of the options with Mallory in his head. He was certain the ghoul must have had some kind of motivation, even if it wasn't a blatant one. The fairy knew he had connections before he landed in prison, but he had hardly been in long enough to make any solid power plays or connections within the complex itself. And if Mallory did agree, how would he explain it to Odin? He was still mystified by he and Julians apparent silent communication methods. If the werewolf was annoyed simply by the sounds of their voices (which, if their meeting in the yard told him anything, certainly seemed to be the case) how would he take the fairy telling him that he'd gone and roped a random ghoul into their little alliance without any word to him or Julian, and without any dealings with him prior? He doubted that would go over well, and he'd heard the sounds from he and Julians cell next door, enough to know that Odin was no gentle man. How strongly would he react? How angry would he be? Would he hit him? Toss him back to the alchemists? Worse, would the werewolf think that Leon was snubbing him in exchange for Mallory, the way he'd done with Pike? Taking this gamble on his own was all kinds of levels of foolhardy, but he didn't want to risk letting the chance to have Mallory side with them slip by. He'd just have to deal with the consequences as they came. Speaking of consequences, he couldn't forget that he was still rather in the middle of dealing with the more immediate consequences of his actions. He was reminded of this by Mallorys hands being placed on either side of him, giving Leon the distinct impression of being trapped again. At least he wasn't pressing him against a wall. But the motion had a particular... connotation, given where their conversation had been going. ”Only if you tell me why, after years, you’ve defied Pike? If I’m going to protect you and your little friends, I want to know why I’m sticking my neck out for you.” But the look on Mallorys face wasn't one of skepticism, as his words would have suggested. He really seemed... amused? Leon wasn't sure. Reading people had ever been his twin brothers strong suit, and the ghoul in front of him wasn't a simple equation that he could add up, divide, and categorize to figure out. He was a mystery, and a very real threat, all wicked grins and sharp teeth. But it was a legitimate question. So Leo cleared his throat a bit, doing his best not to flinch or scoot away from him. "Well... I'd been looking for an out for a while. Pike and the alchemists have been using my dust for a while, and their extraction methods can be... He looked down, rubbing at his wounded shoulder and rolling his neck anxiously. "Taxing. Physically and mentally. I've kinda been going nuts. Julian, he's been with Odin for a little bit now, I guess. But he and I were friends on the outside." And even that, he worried, might have been saying too much. He didn't want to spill out his guts on the how or the why or the when. He just wanted to get the point across that Julian was someone he knew, and who he trusted. "And he's clever. So, today in the yard, he asked me to come sit with them, knowing what it meant. We couldn't really talk, but I knew he must have had a plan. That he... needed me in it, somehow. So... I trusted him. And I went. And that's really all there was to it. I wanted to get away from the circle. The opportunity came up, and so I did. If I could have gotten away with it two years ago, I would have done it then." Clean and simple, no more elaboration than necessary while he was still so unsure as to how much he could actually trust the ghoul, if any. But saying it all out loud, the fairy suddenly realized how completely idiotic that sounded. His buddy asked him to, and so he did. That was what it boiled down to. He'd put blind trust in someone because he knew them outside, and that had almost cost him a wing tonight. He hadn't thought things through, hadn't tried to slowly piece together a plan himself. Despite saying that he'd been wanting to get away from Pike, he'd made to moves on his own. The boldest thing he'd done had been to blow a guard to get a new roommate, and even that could be seen as a colossal blunder, another unnecessary gamble. Mallory must have really thought he was a huge idiot. Pike was always reminding him of it and, well, it was probably true. Leon was good for numbers, dust, and sex, and that was about all he was good for. He hung his head, suddenly rather ashamed of himself. What the hell was he thinking? for the billionth time he found himself reminded that he didn't belong here. If there was anything he could have done to get himself out he would have. He wondered again why he hadn't followed his twins example and simply gone on the run. But, of course, he would probably have done even that wrong, without Tacks to guide him. Without his other half. He was doomed to failure.
Mercifully, Mallory distracted him from his downward spiral with a follow-up question, this time about the dust. Ah, he hadn't missed that bit about dosing. He was right, there was a reason he hadn't mentioned it. He tended not to. Everyone already knew about the aphrodisiac effects, but the prison population had largely forgotten about its other trick. ”You did well, making a friend with me. But I am ruthless, and much more intelligent than your little friend. I hold power outside of this cage of concrete.” Leon wasn't sure which 'little friend' the ghoul was referring to. Did he mean Pike? Or, more sinister, was he referring to Julian, or Odin? Outside, Leon would have scoffed at the statement. In his experience, anyone who said 'I'm smarter/stronger/better than ___' was generally grossly exaggerating, and maybe even overcompensating for more deep-seated shortcomings. But here, the world was different. He needed to overestimate everyone and everything. If Mallory said he was smarter, Leon needed to believe it, at least when he was playing a game that might end with him at odds with the ghoul. And, of course, when he was assuming they were on the same side, he would need to assume the worst about him. And again the ghoul reminded him; he might not have been a player within the walls, but he did have power outside of them. Depending on what those connections were, he could prove an even more valuable asset than another muscle wall for him and Julian. In any case, it was likely best to come clean about the dust. If and when he needed to drop that bomb, if Mallory was on their side he needed to know when to duck for cover. "Well, in larger quantities, the nervous system can't handle it, and it goes into overdrive. It starts sending signals like crazy, to their maximum capacity. Basically, if you inhale too much, you'll experience the worst possible pain your brain can conceive of without shutting itself down." It was blunt and cold, the way he explained it. Like dissecting a frog on a diagram, something distant, simple facts. He was unaffected by the nerve dust, he could never understand what it felt like. The pleasant effects seemed to vary slightly between each person, so he could only assume the same was true of the pain aspect as well. But no one whom he had ever dusted to that extent had even gotten close to him again. Even Nat, Julians brother, whom he would continue to see for years after, never seemed to be able to look him in the eye, and generally avoided being near him entirely. A terrible, powerful, frightening electric mage skirted away from a little fairy like a cat around water. As hesitant as Leon had ever been to admit it, that was a kind of power. He wouldn't admit, however, that with the way the alchemists had been working him, he wasn't even sure if he was capable of producing an amount that large at the moment.
Leon could tell that Mallory was amused by his other proposition, though, and that just made him flush even deeper, up to his ears. It was humiliating enough having to offer, he didn't need the ghoul laughing at him for it, too! ”You’re afraid I’m going to eat you, yet you’re willing to strip down and be completely vulnerable to me? Unless I’m thinking of something different, hm?” Leon shrank back the slightest bit, still doing his best not to give ground; not that he could go farm what with his legs hanging over the side of the bunk and Mallorys hands on either side of his hips pinning him in. He pinched his eyebrows together, chewing on the inside of his cheek and just a little indignant through his embarrassment. "L-look, I'm perfectly aware that if you changed your mind and did decide to eat me, it... well it wouldn't really make much difference if I was naked and vulnerable or clothed and ready to fight you, would it? You're, what, six two? Six three?" He was going to go on, try and distract from the awkwardness of his position by biting back the barest bit at Mallory as he was able, when the Ghoul closed the space between them, causing Leon to freeze, voice catching in his throat. He held as still as he could as those long arms wrapped around his waist, keeping him close as Mallory laid his head in his lap. Leons heart stuttered in his chest as he struggled to put together exactly what was happening. Was Mallory making a move on him? Was he using the gesture to signal acceptance in some weird, roundabout way? Was this some kind of test? Was he feeling him for a reaction?? When Mallory opened his mouth with a grin, showing all of those terrible, sharp, sharp teeth, and moved for his hand, Leon flinched, but he made himself stay still. It was an unfortunate reflex drilled into him by the alchemists. When something painful was going to happen, it was best to just let it happen. Wiggling or struggling would only make things worse, so it was best to just endure it. But pain never came. He shuddered, instead, at the feeling of Mallorys tongue on his skin, the warm heat of his lips closing around a finger for a long moment before releasing him. His confusion deepened, and continued to do so as his hand gave in to the strange sensation. A tingling, almost ticklish, dancing and distinct over his nerves, everywhere that the ghouls mouth had touched, isolated to that one finger. Fascinated, Leon held his hand closer to his face, trying to see if there was any visible change, but having difficulty doing so in the dark. It certainly looked normal, even as the weird tingling feeling persisted. "What was... what is that??" His voice was laden with surprise, but moreso with curiosity. But in the next moment, without being bidden, he immediately began wondering, imagining, what that tingling would feel like in other places. He did his best to keep a straight face and not give away his thoughts, but, again, that had always been his brothers forte.

As simple as the reply was, it made sense that Leon would want to change alliances when the one he was in was using him to the brink. Fairies didn’t really belong in prison, so they had to take what they could get when it came to people having their back. Even if it meant being used up. It was better than being at the mercy of everyone versus just the alchemists. Though Mallory had never been in that situation, he was pretty good at putting himself in other’s shoes. Honestly, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d had to make sure he had protection. As the other male had stated, he was a big, intimidating guy. And most people steered clear because they didn’t know what his bite could do. Little did they know, he rarely ever used his bite. He could probably count on one hand the times he’d had to use it in a defensive situation. It was just so powerful that he felt it put him at too much of an advantage, and he liked an even playing field. Must’ve been the good guy side of him somewhere deep inside.
Honestly, it sounded just like the potency of the fairy’s dust. It would be completely overwhelming to someone. At the same time, he was rather intrigued by such a small, frail thing’s trump card. He was like a walking bomb once he had time to recover. It could be useful in a bad situation, an overwhelming one. They were outnumbered technically. Though it would take a lot, even alchemists could overwhelm one ghoul.
”Yeah, something like that, little one.” He chuckled at the other’s snippy response about his power and height. So he did have a backbone, even if it was only a small one. Surely, once they were more comfortable with each other, he would let that snippy side of him out. Mallory was an odd glutton for being given sass, as long as it was playful. It kind of reminded him of his little brother, really. It was a tiny taste of home. But then the true fun came after he had licked him and sucked on his finger.
The curiosity on Leo’s face was priceless. It was perfect, actually. The ghoul just stuck out his tongue in response to the question, that s**t-eating grin still plastered on his face. Those tingling sensations seemed to have reigned him in quickly. ”Feels cool, doesn’t it?” The ghoul pretended he didn’t see the change in the other’s demeanor. He merely laid his head back in his lap, tongue sneaking out of his lips again and running along the underside of his wrist. Though it wasn’t technically an ‘aphrodisiac,’ he hadn’t met anyone that didn’t thoroughly enjoy a good tongue-down from him. His bite was completely overwhelming, but the saliva when not in the blood stream would light the skin ablaze in the soft sensation. ”Frankly, I don’t want you to pay me in sex. I might be big and scary, even influential, but I’m not into rape as surprising as it may seem.” Mallory leaned back and looked up to the fairy’s face with grin. ”But if you want to play, I’m always game.”

Honestly, everything about the situation seemed a little too good to be true, a feeling which set the fairy on edge. Years ago he wouldn't have questioned his good fortune one bit. But being in prison as long as he had, he knew that it was only a matter of time before the other shoe dropped. But for the moment, the fairy was still caught up in this small, insignificant detail, the strange tingling sensation the ghoul sent over the surface of his skin. But he wasn't exactly sure just why the ghoul was showing him this. Was it some kind of mind game he was playing? Was the tingling a lesser effect of some kind of ghoul venom? Was it a threat? It didn't really have the air most threats in prison did. So what was the angle? "Feels cool, doesn't it?" Leon nodded dumbly, furrowing his eyebrows and glancing between his hand and the ghoul when Mallory invaded his personal space again. He tensed again, but once again the ghoul seemed content just to lay his head there, lounging like an apathetic housecat against him and snaking that tongue out again. He shuddered, not just at the fresh wave of strange tingling giving him goosebumps, but just at the contact of his wet tongue against his skin. Wasn't all of this incredibly strange? To be making contact so easily, and right after he'd beaten another man half to death just minutes before? Everything about Mallory was confusing. ”Frankly, I don’t want you to pay me in sex. I might be big and scary, even influential, but I’m not into rape as surprising as it may seem.” Leon blinked, not bothering to hide his mild surprise at the statement as the ghoul flashed that sharp grin up at him again. ”But if you want to play, I’m always game.”
Leo frowned, looking down at his hand and tracing his fingertips along the underside of his wrist, outlining the lingering strange sensation. Was Mallory... trying to seduce him? The idea was outlandish and seemed unlikely. But there was no denying that the man eater was oddly.... cuddly. The feeling was similar to walking into a fenced yard to have a rottweiler charge at you, snarling and snapping and foaming, chase you down, pin you, and start licking you all over and wagging its stumpy tail. But in this case the licking set his skin to prickling. "That's.... I'll keep that in mind. He lowered his eyes again to meet Mals, laying in his lap. "But I'll pass." Truth was that Leon was tired. Exhausted, in fact, beyond all comprehension. He'd been so tired for so long, he'd decided ceasing to exist would be simpler. At that moment, still reeling in the aftershocks of the blade against his back, still shivering from withdrawals, still not convinced he'd ever be able to fly out of that place, beyond the concrete cage, he wasn't sure he'd ever be interested in sex again. All he really wanted to do was to go to sleep and never wake up, let the world go on turning without him. But that option wasn't an option anymore. Julian was relying on him, and on his dust. And he knew the mage was sensitive. What would Julian do, what would he think, if Leon abandoned him yet again, and in such a way? Even if he could give up on his revenge, he couldn't give up on Julian. Not yet. But, intriguing as the ghouls tongue was, he couldn't bring himself to initiate anything with the man in his current state. Besides, there were more important things he was concerned with than another lay.
"So I've answered your questions. Now will you help us? You say you don't want sex as payment. Other than that and the dust there's not much but..." A thought occurred to him then. It was a longshot, and Leon wasn't even sure if it would be feasible. It might not even be worth pursuing, but it wasn't impossible. "Or... if I can.... if I can get out of here, somehow. I could get you out. And as the words left his lips he knew that it was true. He could do it. "I can't while I'm in here, but... I could make it happen once I'm out. If you help us, I can promise you that." Granted, Leon knew he still had at least another twelve years of his sentence, but surely Mal's sentence was just as long, maybe longer? And if he could secure the ghouls protection for even a fraction of that time, he might actually survive it. It was something he could offer in exchange that was solid, and that he could follow up on. Something most people in prison couldn't offer even if they wanted. The only snag was the when.
