Good, another familiar voice. Davor turned to see Briiva had found him, raccoon still in tow, breathlessly explaining just about everything he'd been thinking. Nodding, he released his grip on Ernst, thumbing at him instead: "Ernst, comrade." Looking up at him, he pointed to his fellow Hephaestus chosen next. "Briiva, roomiemate." There. All caught up and perfectly acquainted. He was never the best at introductions, but they could let niceties slide for the moment, right? Not bothering to wait for an answer to the question he hadn't asked aloud, Davor picked a direction and set off.

Brief description of character: A bear of a man in both stature and apparent dexterity in tree-climbing, Davor is really more like a teddy than a grizzly once you get him talking. Just, good luck with that.

At some point in the discussions, as she listened and indexed the facts the others were providing, Sid had managed to finish an impressive sized bowl of stew. Unusual for her, considering how little she tended to eat, but nerves apparently made her hungry. Or just forgetful enough she didn't notice.

Then suddenly things exploded. The older chosen suddenly started crying out and changing... producing a crocodile, a horse, a rhino, and an armadillo... who all freaked out and fled. It was so much like the evidence they had found that Sid knew it was happening to them now.

Oh god, no... She knew, somehow, this was going to happen. Something crazy for coming out here. Why hadn't they anticipated this? Something had happened to the other chosen, and they even knew it had been them turning into animals... why had no one thought to think about why, and protect themselves?

s**t, s**t, s**t... how long did they all have?

Apparently, to Sid's utter panic, not long, because then pain snapped through her and she squeaked as she dropped her bowl, the vessel clattering across the floor as she doubled over, spilling what was left of its contents into the dirt by the fire. The world went wonky suddenly, rippling and moving around her before it finally stilled.

And everything seemed, suddenly. so much bigger from a lower perspective. Bigger and more threatening, friendly faces suddenly monstrous and leering at her. Sidney shook out her bright plumage with an indignant squawk, puffing up feathers of a vibrant red, blue and yellow as she stared about with small, black eyes in a white face. The little DJ was now a very large red Macaw in a panic and a low hiss came from her wickedly curved black beak. Terror beat at her, screaming she needed to get out and she exploded suddenly into motion, shrieking as she beat her wings to get airborn. She made a wild dive for the door, no doubt giving the people around her a good buffet with her wide wings as she went, and out into the jungle and freedom.

Sidney is now a LARGE BIRD OH NO.

Jan barely ate the rations, but he barely ate at the best of times, just enough to keep him ticking over estimated from what they were given. What he didn't eat he stowed for later so as not to attract attention to the fact he hadn't eaten anything much. Fortunately he was generally good at avoiding notice and staying in the background was something that he had always been rather good at. He listened in to what the others had to say about their findings as they spoke up but kept his thoughts to himself.

Most of them seemed to be talking about the strange raccoon they'd found, the one which appeared to be sentient in some way, possibly a Chosen turned into a different shape. He found it concerning, the idea of being trapped in a body which would die much quicker than his human one, without the capacity to do any of the things he enjoyed any longer. It wasn't him though, and if he had any say in matters, would never be him.

The others seemed to have run into witches of all things, children dressed like goths most likely, and that in itself was strange. If this place was anything like the rural areas he'd visited or passed through, those were the areas counter-cultures were more avidly repressed, finding something like that out here took him back to the hysteria about satanism and cults which had briefly gripped in his youth and elements of which still surfaced in his research in the supernatural and occult. He didn't think there was too much suggestion going on in this crowd of people however. Either way, the house looked at least somewhat inhabited with some amount of civilisation, places to shop and places to go if everything went pear shaped. Supplies really.

The fact that people had been going missing for some time in and around this area was news to him, especially when it was a generalised sense. He didn't want to end up being one of them at all. The bug spray was eyed with faint longing and he found himself rubbing a welt on the back of one of his hands where he'd been bitten by a mosquito. DEET would be a luxury here and he made very decisive note when he got back to pack a bag for outings like this containing anything he might need depending on what climate they found themselves in.

He did smile slightly to himself at the talk about children and the desire to dress like witches, dressed as he was like a traditional psychic, replete with strange necklaces and a tarot deck stowed in his pockets he couldn't exactly throw stones about what people chose to do with their lives.

Overall though, it was the animals he was most concerned about. Animals died. Animals got eaten, hunted and shot. Animals lived short and violent lives and he'd had to stitch up far too many of them to want to deal with being one for any amount of time, it had to be a mixup and one they could resolve somehow before they too as a group went missing.

When Oliva spoke up, Jan glanced sidelong at her, the fledgeling denial dying before it could really begin and was followed up by something completely unexpected.

People changed. They completely changed before the eyes of the awestruck group and tore off into the forest in panic.

Jan, being one of life's natural survivors, did what he did best and found somewhere to hide until the worst of it was over, then whole and unchanged, he crawled back out again and tried to see if he could find Rodney or anyone he recognised anywhere or if the other man had ended up with another group or worse, gotten transformed somehow.

Rodney found out very quickly what had happened to the others.

He turned pale, suddenly, paler than usual. This kind of magic...if it was possible...of course, the greeks talked of it often. Transforming into one thing or another. He didn't eat meat, when he could avoid it, but now...knowing this, it was possible than any creature could have once been...

Not that they too, as an animal who had never been human, didn't have thoughts, and feelings, and families, but...

He wobbled sickly, trying not to throw up.

"Oh no," he whispered, "oh no."

But they weren't dead, he hoped they weren't dead, only changed, and for how long? And how long until all of them met the same fate?

Diryas, moreso than Zebulon, felt a moral obligation to help their fellow Chosen. If they were under attack, then it behooved them to try and maximise their chances of recovery. He wasn't advocating a wild goose chase--as fitting as that term might currently be--but he did think that they would suffer incredible detriment to just let their allies run off in a panic into the woods. If they didn't hurt themselves, then finding them would mean a chance of turning them back, and thus a restoration to their manpower. They were just starting out; they couldn't afford the loss of personnel right now. Not that he thought they'd ever be able to, really, but especially not now.

Grateful for Zebulon's cooperation, he took a deep breath and headed out, assuming his husband would be behind him.

Brief description of character: seemingly the dictionary definition of "quiet loner type" who doesn't tend to speak much unless spoken to, unless it's about chemistry (having a phD in it requires passion, after all); petit in build and not the most athletic but willing to work around it.

Mercy was finding it difficult to search through the crowd of chosen and animals, trying to search for Sid while trying to keep from stepping on the smaller critters around the camp. This was crazy! Thank Ares she wasn't hungry! Otherwise, she probably would've been turning into some crazed animal as well. "Sid! Siiiiid!" She saw a head full of Rainbow hair....That had...Red feathers?

Oh s**t.

The last thing Mercy saw was the big colorful wings of the Macaw that had just taken off from where Sid once was. Man that woman had the worst luck ever when it comes to their little "missions". "Oh god damn it! Really!?! SID COME BACK!!!" She just had to go and get herself turned into a bird! Why couldn't she become a raccoon or a maybe a unicorn? Mercy sighed and ran after the big bird, shouting the entire way.
