"Zeke," he repeated, seeming to give it some consideration before he nodded. So. She was Nell and he was Zeke. That only left...

"And who am I?" That had been something that had been nagging at the back of his mind. When he looked around the room, he was able to call up names for each of the things (and now people) he saw, but when he looked down at himself...Sure, he could label bits of things, hands, arms, hair, but as a whole he came up with nothing.

And here was the part that Nell had been dreading somewhat. A name was something that had been eluding her up until now, leaving her with dozens and dozens of ideas written down but not one that had stuck out to her. But now she had to make a choice, and name after name passed through her mind, each one getting discarded as quickly as she thought of it. And then, ah. Yes, that would do. It was much easier when the person you were naming was right there in front of you.

"You," she said slowly, "Are Dair. If you like it, of course." The last part was said hastily, his neutral expression not giving her much indication on if he liked it or not.

That didn't seem to be much of an issue though, for after a moment to mull the name over, a smile slowly spread across his face as if he found something about it amusing. "It is a good name, thank you."

No, not so scary after all.

The pair was watched with a quiet sort of fondness that these types of situations were able to elicit. The Frei got his name then asked for his own, which put his Guardian on the spot. Zeke was also quite curious as to the newborn's name and focused his attention on Nell to see what would be said.

It seemed to take her a moment but in the end the chosen word was uttered.

"Dair," he repeated, testing it out for himself as the Frei gave his approval to it. It was a fine name and fit the face it now belonged to. "It's nice to meet you, Dair!"

Patting Nell on the back, Zeke moved to the desk in the room in order to open the file and write that down.

"Best to get this out of the way I think," the vet pulled a pen from his pocket and held it over the paper, pausing to look at Nell. "How would you spell that? D-A-R-E or D-A-I-R? Or is there like...a silent y in there or an extra e maybe?"

"D-A-I-R," Things were going to be confusing enough for him for a while, she figured, having an overly complicated name would just add to all of that. "Is there anything else I need to sign?" She finally took her eyes off of Dair to look over at Zeke, glancing down to the folder he was writing in. Now that he was here and seemed to be well, she was anxious to get him home and settled in. It had been a long day for the both of them.

Dair, meanwhile, took the chance to float a bit closer to Nell, watching her her intently. He jerked back slightly when she turned to look at him, but she only smiled and held her hand out to him, whispering "We'll be going home soon, ok?" Her hand was given a similarly cautious look before he carefully placed his hand in his, earning him a beaming smile from Nell.

"D-A-I-R...Got it!" He put the name down on the appropriate line before straightening and offering the pen to Nell with a nod. "Yes ma'am! These are the final release papers I'll need to you to read and sign. The legal jargon is that you promise to take care of him, provide the Lab with information on and as he develops, and if anything happens you know who to call. That sort of thing."

He gave a casual shrug and moved from the desk, offering the space to Nell so she could have all the elbow room she wanted. When she spoke to Dair he smiled sympathetically, pulling his phone from his pocket just enough so he could see the time. Jeez it was late.

"I'm sure after all this excitement you're both eager to get a good night's sleep. I'm sorry I dragged you out this late but I figured you'd want him the day of rather than the day after." The colorful man chuckled, turning his attention to the Frei. "How about you kiddo? You ready to go home? I bet Nell here has a room all ready just for you and I bet it's waaaaay cooler than this one!"

"That's right!" she said cheerfully, waving away Zeke's apology as she quickly looked over the paperwork before signing her name in the appropriate places. Much better now than later, this place didn't seem like it would be terribly comfortable to spend the night in, especially if it was your first night of life.

It took Dair a second to realize that Zeke was talking to him, as he had turned most of his attention to the forms that Nell was signing. He looked up sharply at Zeke, then at the room around them, and spread his hands in a shrug. Who was he to pass judgement on the place that gave him life? That would be beyond rude. "It would be nice to go outside," he added. The harsh, sterile feel of the Lab was beginning to wear at him, and even though it was possible to hear the storm from even in here, fresh air of any sort sounded very good to him right now.

"Don't worry, you'll be outta here soon I promise." He winked at the Frei as lightning flashed again and thunder rumbled just beyond the one lone window in the room. Too bad the weather wasn't exactly hospitable right now, but even a downpour was a lot better than fluorescent lighting and sterile air. At the very least it afforded a lot more to look at. "Although I might have to loan you two an umbrella. It's pretty stormy out right now."

He waited for Nell to be done with the paperwork before looking over it himself. She filled out the appropriate spots without missing a one and he nodded at the last signature she had made in approval.

"Everything seems to be in order. I just need to finalize it here..." He clucked his tongue as he nabbed the pen and made his scrawl. One signature and the date later and he was closing the cover of the file and giving Nell a big thumbs up.

"Alrighty! With that I officially declare you Guardian and Raevan!" Zeke bounced on his heels as he tucked the file under his arm, looking between the pair before turning to look at the still-open door. "Now the fun part begins. I'll walk you two out to the lobby, but on the way if either of you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them! Of course, we can do that when you two are ready to go. I can understand if you want to spend a bit more time getting to know each other before you head on home!"

It might also be good to wait and see if the storm lessened just a little bit, to make the drive back that much safer. Besides, he enjoyed Nell's company and he was quite eager to make Dair's acquaintance too!

And it was done. The closing of the file seemed to have more weight than mere paper should have and closed with a rather final sound.

"An umbrella would be nice, unless you feel like getting a bit wet."' There was a quiet hum of thought as Dair looked out the window, causing Nell to laugh. "Well, we can wait till later, don't want you catching a cold on your first day! If...you can catch a cold?" She looked over at Zeke questioningly with a shrug.

"I can't think of anything right now, how 'bout you?" Dair shook his head, though he turned to Zeke and bowed his head, much more formally than before.

"I thank you for your hospitality during my stay," Nell's eyebrows shot up at this. "I hope I will be able to repay your kindness soon." Well! At least she won't have to teach him any manners, it looks like!

"I'll nab you guys one of mine, no worries. And yes, it is possible for Raevans to get sick! Although how easily they can depends on the individual. Dair here might have an immune system made of iron for all we know!" But he wasn't about to play chance with that and would make the stop on the way.

"Well if you end up thinking of any in the coming days you know how to reach me! And of course I'm available just to chat whenever you feel li--" He cut himself short as Dair bowed his head to him, Zeke's eyebrows doing much the same as Nell's and rocketing right up his face.

"Well now...You're welcome, Dair! It's my pleasure!" He chuckled and waved a hand. "Don't worry about repaying me, kiddo. I'm more than happy to take care of you guys and your Guardians! But alright, since that seems to be taken care of, why don't we head on out? My office is right before the lobby exit and I'll fetch that umbrella for you on the way."

He held the door for the pair of them, happy to see them both exit the room with one another. The introduction could not have gone better if he did say so himself! And as he said, Zeke stopped just short of the exit to the lobby in order to pop into his office and procure a flashy rainbow-colored umbrella which he handed off to Nell.

"I've got a couple more in there so don't worry about returning this one asap or anything. Maybe we can set a day up for me to come get it, in fact. I can bring Anya along for the ride too." He winked at Nell. The Widow had been curious to know that the other woman's Frei had been born. Judging by his calm and polite demeanor, Zeke had a good feeling the two just might hit it off. Maybe the umbrella could be picked up a little sooner rather than later.

"Welcome to the lobby!" He extended his arms out wide to display the open space with its seating arrangement and secretary's desk. "Lemme just put this file away and I'll walk out with you!" He did just that, putting the file in a drawer full of like others and grabbing his keys from his pocket.

"Now you two be sure to drive safe alright? And keep in touch!" He opened his arms once more to Nell before offering his hand to Dair. "Congratulations again, Nell. And congrats to you too, Dair! You're going home with quite the lady!"

Dair looked mildly affronted at the suggestion of not repaying him for his hospitality, but nodded grudgingly as they left the room. But all thoughts of that were driven from his head as they traveled down the hallway and into the lobby. So many new things to look at, so much more space to move around in! He drifted away from the two humans, making a beeline towards one of the much larger windows.

"Feel free to come over whenever! You've got my address, and it's only like..."[/color she scrunched her nose and wiggled her hand back and forth. "Fifteen? Minutes from here, I'd be happy to have you both over!" She beamed at the mention of Anya, having been completely won over by her when they met. It would be wonderful to see her again and hopefully have Dair make a new friend as well.

"Thanks again for everything, Zeke," This time she didn't turn down the chance to give him another hug, once again lifting him a few inches off the ground in the process. Dair had been staring intently out the window, face nearly pressed against it as he looked fixedly at one spot in the sky that was soon lit up by a bolt of lightning. He only belatedly noticed Zeke's presence near him, and gently grasped his hand with a small smile.

Nell offered him a cheery grin and a wave as they left, the umbrella a cheerful spot of color in the rainy night as they hurried out to her car.

Save for the sound of the storm, the Lab was quiet once more, with slightly less creepy stuff this time.

Probably.
