BASICS Name: Isidora Sandoval Nickname: Izzy, Adora (her parents call her this), DORA THE EXPLORER BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE -SO- FLIPPING CREATIVE (extra upsetting to her because she looked just like Dora as a Little Izzy) Gender: Female Age and Birth Date: 25, January 12th Occupation: Ph.D student in Astronomy - she works in a lab and as a TA. Her major academic interest is in Jupiter’s moons and how they gravitationally interact.
APPEARANCE She is 5’7 and very athletic - she loves to go on runs, and used to do long-distance running (and javelin) in high school and undergraduate college. She doesn’t have much of a bust or butt, but her legs slay and so she takes any opportunity to show them off. She naturally has very straight dark brown hair that falls to her mid-back, though she adds in ombre copper highlights that start halfway down her hair. She usually puts her hair up in a high ponytail. She has the rich, deep tan skin tone of her father’s Mexican ancestry, and her skin is smooth and she always seems well-rested. Izzy’s face is oval shaped with a long nose, high cheekbones, and nutmeg colored brown eyes that seem to shine with all her sharpness and passion. Her features are perky and sharp, and she is usually grinning or smirking, like she is in on a joke that you aren’t. Her clothing tends to be tacky, in the 90’s dance scene sort of way. On a more muted day, she likes fluorescent-and-black athletic gear, like yoga capris, running shorts, long layered tank tops, crop top sweaters, and bright running shoes. If she has to teach that day, she will wear a cheeky t-shirt and jeans and look decent enough for class, even though she hates it. But what she REALLY likes to wear is bright cut-off hot pants and sequined mesh shirts and pink ripped tights and slouchy legwarmers and clear plastic platform heels (...and sometimes all at once, especially to concerts). Neons are very common in her wardrobe. She usually wears big earrings and bracelets, often favoring silvers and laser-cut bright plastic jewelry. Izzy makes it very clear that she dresses the way she does because she wants to, and also because it pisses people off. Pinterest board Face claim: Roselyn Sanchez (in facial structure - Izzy is not nearly as glamorous) PERSONALITY Positive: Never say die is the core tenant of Izzy’s personality. She is very forward and assertive, and is the kind of person who is always up-front about what she wants. Izzy is very sharp, eagle-eyed, and capable of great laser focus, which is very helpful in her field of study. She is also really good at math and logic. If Izzy decides that someone needs her help and protection (and this other person has no say in the matter, btw), she will be a stalwart protector and advocate. Even though she is an intense person, she also likes to be flippant, deviant, and funny, and if nothing else she is an exciting person to hang around with. She loves parties and novel experiences, and is highly spontaneous. Neutral: Izzy has no chill whatsoever. Someone set her intensity knob to 11 and then smashed it off with a sledgehammer. She is fiercely independent and often rejects what she perceives as attempts to control her life - one of her mottos is “I do what I want”. She is not bossy of other people, she just cares about doing what she wants to do. Izzy is strongly feminist and will not tolerate any sexist garbage from anyone, male or female, and is basically celibate these days because she wants to focus on her doctorate. She enjoys being outrageous to get reactions out of people, and loves to tease. Negative: Once Izzy decides someone is Wrong and Bad, there is virtually nothing saving her opinion of them beyond outstanding displays of bravery and atonement. She is definitely aggressive and fast to initiate a conflict if she believes that her pride, her goddess’s pride, or the well-being of another woman is a threat. Also, on the negative side of her laser focus - stuff she doesn’t care about, she REALLY doesn’t care about. Like she failed most of her English courses throughout school, she is slow to deal with her bills and laundry and other chores, and she straight up ignores people who don’t interest her. She is not good at teamwork, and is more likely to try to go off on her own to fix a problem, or attempt to fight a monster solo.

DEITY Artemis Izzy’s devotion to protecting other women, her sharp perception and focus, and her wild spirit that makes her a good fit for Artemis. Olivia recruited Izzy. ----------------- It chugged the hell out of her battery, but Izzy kept the Lemonade movie running on loop while she studied, the whole entire hour of it over and over again. It was her companion as she studied here in the library, her phone propped up against her PINK gym bag, and a stack of books protecting Izzy like a wall, even as she sat at a long, filled table of other college students. The books, bag, and her heavy headphones were enough to help her shut out everyone else in the library, but the music took her to an entirely different place. Lemonade’s music was catchy enough, and the message was good. But Beyonce herself was the best. Izzy absently ran her hand through her own highlighted hair as she watched the woman sing and stalk her way through an idyllic looking urban street. She looked so beautiful and strong at the same time. Izzy’s eyes followed the proud diva from scene to scene, and for a moment she thought about herself, and where she could improve in comparison. While studying, Izzy just listened to the music and looked at it out of the corner of her eye sometimes, but now her attention hung on the video for a few minutes. She propped her chin up with her hand, and sighed as she watched. She had been chewing through these scientific journals for hours now, making notes of what she needed for later and absorbing every bit of knowledge she could. If her focus drifted now, maybe she needed the break. In the next scene, Beyonce posed for the camera, grinning, her arms casually bracing a weathered baseball bat over her shoulders. But something was incredibly wrong, and Izzy noticed it immediately. The singer’s usual heavy earrings didn’t shine with gold - they shone bright silver. What the- “Do you dream of making an impact on the world one day, Isidora?” Beyonce grinned, and tilted her head to the side. This wasn’t Beyonce though, not her eyes and not her voice. Something else spoke through her. “Or would you rather take the chance right now?” Izzy shot to her feet, slamming her hands on the table. Her mouth hung open, but she was too shocked to speak. A row of a dozen other students glared at her, but none of them ever had the guts to say anything. She ripped the headphones off her ears, but still, perfectly, she heard what the woman on the screen said next. “Is that not what you want the most, girl? To leave a mark on the world, and for the world to know it was you that left it?” Izzy spoke to the woman on her phone screen in a curt whisper. “Who are you?” “I am Artemis, of the hunt.” She smiled, cocksure, and spun the baseball bat around to point at Izzy. “Of the moon, of purity, of all creatures upon the Earth. And you will run with us, Isidora.” “Sorry, lady. I won’t be told what to do.” The young woman’s response had been thoughtless and immediate, the same response she’d give anyone who tried to command her. Izzy lifted her chin high, staring down at her phone in challenge. This woman, the one who wore the proud guise of Beyonce, smiled nearly ear to ear now. She reached her hand towards the camera and twisted it around, as if turning it upon the camera crew. Yet there was no urban downtown anymore, no musicians behind her. It was a forest. It was in front of Izzy, simply on her phone screen, but then the scent of pine and thrush washed over her. She had never been in a forest in her life, but her senses were overwhelmed quite suddenly. She closed her eyes to the phone screen, but the sensations got even stronger - soft grass under bare feet, an autumn night’s chill ripping through her flimsy athletic shirts. Her ears pounded. It was like she could hear everything within the forest, from the scared shuffling of a rabbit to the rustling of branches as birds hopped about. And the smell! Of churned earth and the creatures squirming beneath rotting leaves and logs, the damp fur of deer. Her fingers twitched, begging for a weapon suddenly. Her muscles were all made of electricity, screaming at her to bolt through the forest, to join in the hunt- Izzy tipped forward, and her hands hit the plasticy wood of the library desk. Her eyes shot open, and darted to her sides. But she was only standing in the library. None of the students nearby seemed to pay her mind - none of them smelled the fresh grass as she had, or heard the distant howling of the wolves. Technically, Izzy must have not either, because she hadn’t actually gone anywhere. But she breathed hard, and sweated like death itself was upon her. “Accept my blessing.” The video’s camera was focused on the image of Beyonce again, standing again in the middle of the street. Artemis spoke in a smooth, certain tone, of a woman who always received what she wanted. “I will send one of my hunters for you, and you shall be outfitted with weapons and in time, magic. And then, I will give you prey worth your time.” At any other time, Izzy would have had something smartass to say. But her mouth was dry and her mind at a blank. What the hell was going on? She had no idea what any of this was, what she was seeing or feeling, and why nobody else seemed to notice. Izzy pressed her palm to her hot forehead. What did it mean to run with “us”? What prey did this woman have in mind? Was this Artemis waiting for an answer? Then, would saying yes help clear up any of this? Because Izzy slowly felt she had no other choice - she could pursue this new, strange possibility and understand it fully, or she could spend the rest of her life wondering about her own sanity. “Fine.” Izzy meant to speak with bite, to show that even though she might go along with this, she would not be a docile lamb. But before the sharp gaze of this Beyonce-goddess, all of Izzy’s words felt trite, stupid. She grabbed up her phone and shook it, as if to reassert her dominance over the situation. “Tell me what you mean by magic. And prey? What is going on?” “Don’t cause a scene.” Artemis winked, and then started singing again. Izzy blinked, and it was Beyonce, going through the same song and dance as always. The music drifted out of Izzy’s earbuds, but she smashed the mute button, and discarded the video. Still standing, Izzy tore through her phone, looking for any hint it had been jacked, that some idiot casted a stupid video on it somehow to mess with her. But she did this more to find a reason to doubt what she had seen, rather than from any real doubt she felt in her heart. It was ludicrous. Her books before her was about science and the known universe, and here she was, believing in some made-up delusion in her head. The grass had smelled so sweet. She couldn’t sit here in this cramped library. Izzy’s muscles twitched with energy, her hands rattled as she scooped her books into her bookbag. She was already wearing her workout gear. She’d just toss her bag in her dorm and go, run as far as she could get on her two feet before the sun went down. And then hopefully be too exhausted afterwards to remember that something so insane had happened to her. And that she had agreed to it, without fully understanding what it meant for her. Signed herself over. That made her the most furious. There were no forests in Arizona, only the desert. But that would have to be good enough.

History
If Izzy ever seems spoiled, it may be because she is the only daughter of her parents, among two older brothers and two younger brothers. In her family, she is very used to getting her way, and she decided her whole life would be like that - she would only do what she wants to do. She grew up in Tuscan, Arizona as a very happy and energetic girl, one who was exceedingly confident that if anyone gave her trouble, she (or her brawny brothers) could handle it.
She has been successful in math and science since she was young, and at age six she proudly announced she would go to the moon (though she is afraid of airplanes, so eventually she downgraded her ambition to studying moons). Her mother, a software engineer, tried to warn Izzy through out her teenage years that it isn't easy being a woman in math/science. But Izzy thought her mom was over-reacting and making up these sexist fears, and as long as Izzy was a strong enough person, she would never fall victim to the same kind of discrimination. She blasted through high school with no problem, and was accepted to University to Arizona's Physics program.
This is when Izzy started running into resistance. There were classes where she was the only girl, assignments where nobody wanted to partner with her, teachers who ignored her. But why? She was good at math and physics, and she worked really hard. What was wrong with her? Why couldn't she power through this, like anything else? Izzy hit a wall and during her sophomore year of college, could only barely stay above water. In her junior year, she started the process of applying for an astronomy doctorate. But she had nobody in her friend group who understood or supported her, and she felt totally alone. The absolute last straw came from her boyfriend at the time - he tried to sabotage Izzy's chances of getting into graduate school altogether.
Izzy totally snapped. She finally, finally admitted to herself that even though she was loud and assertive and smart, she was being victimized by sexism. She flew into a rage that still motivates her today. Her boyfriend admitted that he tried to sabotage her because he was intimidated by her ambition, and was afraid she would end up being more successful than him. He tried to sabotage her lifelong dream of working in astronomy, because he was intimidated by her! How dare he!
She threw him out and ditched her entire, useless friend group. Izzy devoted herself entirely to schooling and bullied her way into the internships and lab programs she needed, and in her senior year secured her Ph.D spot at the University of Arizona's Astronomy program. During her summer breaks, she read every single book on feminism she could find, and vowed never to put herself in the position to be betrayed by a man ever again.
Izzy is now in her third year of her astronomy Ph.D program. She is starting her independent work on her thesis, and is the TA on two courses from Tuesday to Thursday. She is following the gravitational interactions between Jupiter's moons, and helping develop formulas that will be used to try to discover new micro-moons on Jupiter. Izzy's ultimate career goal is to use her research to one day discover moons orbiting around exoplanets.

Artemis: Just based on mythology and stuff, Izzy thinks Artemis needs to ditch her obsession with virginity. It is nothing but a social construct that arbitrarily puts value on women, like how eBay lists things as New or Used. Izzy ain't down with that and may start yelling passages from The Feminist Mystique at the moon.
